Use the latest stable OBS Studio release shown on the official download page, not a beta or release candidate, then test your playlist and stream before scheduling a long broadcast. As checked on October 3, 2026, OBS listed version 32.2.2, dated August 14, as its latest release. That is a current-version recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming on every computer or network.
What the current version recommendation means
OBS recommends its latest stable build for production use. In its June 23, 2026 announcement of OBS 32.2 beta, the project warned that test builds may contain bugs or broken functionality and advised production users to stay on the latest stable release (OBS 32.2 beta announcement).

The OBS homepage listed version 32.2.2 as the latest release on October 3, 2026 (OBS Project). Release status can change, so check the download page when you install or update. Version recency alone does not establish that a release is more reliable for every machine, playlist, or broadcast duration.
Check compatibility before updating
NVIDIA NVENC users
OBS 32.2 release notes, dated July 21, 2026, say the NVIDIA SDK was updated to version 13 and set driver version 570 as the minimum for NVENC users on that path (OBS 32.2 release notes). This is a specific NVIDIA encoder compatibility requirement, not a general minimum for OBS, other encoders, or all systems. If you use NVENC, confirm your driver meets the stated minimum before updating OBS; otherwise, check the release notes for the encoder and platform you actually use.

VLC and plugins
If your playlist depends on OBS’s VLC Video source, make sure VLC is installed and matches OBS’s architecture. The OBS documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Check that plugins you depend on also support the OBS version you plan to install; the cited release information does not establish compatibility for every third-party plugin.
Set up and test the VLC playlist
- Install the matching VLC version. Install VLC before adding the source. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add the playlist source. In your scene, add a VLC Video source and select the media files or playlist you intend to broadcast. OBS documents this source for playlist playback (VLC Video Source guide).
- Verify playback behavior. Confirm Loop Playlist is enabled if you want playback to restart after the final item. OBS says it is on by default; Shuffle Playlist is off by default. Set these explicitly if your intended order or repeat behavior matters.
- Run a representative test stream. Test the actual scene, playlist, encoder, and YouTube stream settings you plan to use. OBS recommends testing settings, scenes, and performance before going live (OBS streaming overview). Watch for playback interruptions, unexpected scene changes, encoding or performance problems, and whether the playlist loops as expected.
- Review reconnect behavior. OBS lets you configure automatic reconnect in Settings > Advanced. Review the available options and test a stream rather than assuming reconnect will preserve every broadcast or playlist state. OBS’s general guidance is not a YouTube-specific guarantee.
What OBS’s release history can—and cannot—tell you
OBS’s version 29.1 notes include a fix for a media-source crash involving video whose resolution changes frequently, such as a VLC playlist, and a separate fix for a crash involving streams in the media source (OBS 29.1 release notes). That history shows source-related issues have been addressed in releases; it does not establish a current crash rate or prove that a particular current version will stay up indefinitely.

The available official material does not provide controlled multi-hour or multi-day comparisons of OBS releases for YouTube playlist streams. Nor does it establish a single most-stable version across operating systems, hardware, drivers, plugins, media files, and networks. Treat your own representative test as a necessary compatibility check, not as proof of guaranteed uptime.

Troubleshoot common playlist-stream issues
- VLC Video is unavailable: Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist ends instead of restarting: Open the VLC Video source properties and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Playback order differs from expectation: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. OBS documents it as off by default, but verify the setting in your source.
- NVENC is unavailable or fails after updating: If you use the NVIDIA NVENC path described in OBS 32.2 notes, check that your driver is version 570 or newer. Do not apply this requirement to other encoders.
- The stream drops or does not resume as expected: Review automatic reconnect in Settings > Advanced and test recovery in a controlled stream. The documented setting does not guarantee preservation of every broadcast or playlist state.
- A crash or playback fault appears only with a particular file or source: Test the same scene and media separately, then check the current OBS release notes for fixes relevant to your source. Historical fixes are not evidence that every similar problem is resolved in your setup.
