JBL Clip 5: best fit for clipping onto gear
The integrated carabiner is the Clip 5’s defining advantage when you want to attach a speaker to a bag or other gear. JBL’s 2024 specification sheet lists an IP67 rating, a weight of 285 g and up to 12 hours of playtime, with up to three extra hours using Playtime Boost. JBL says two units can pair for stereo and compatible speakers can link through Auracast. The battery figure is a manufacturer estimate, not directly comparable to a test result from another source. Its 2026 specification sheet gives an IP68 rating and up to eight hours of playtime, plus up to two hours with Playtime Boost. How to choose: size, sound, battery and protection
Start with where it will travel
For a jacket pocket, the Go 5 is the clearest fit in this shortlist. For clipping a speaker onto a bag, the Clip 5’s carabiner is purpose-built for the job. The Sony has a detachable strap, while the WONDERBOOM 4 has a hook. Consider the attachment you will actually use: a speaker that is easy to carry is more useful than one whose extra features stay at home.
Rank #3

- Supports Wireless Stereo Pairing: Enable True Wireless Stereo (TWS) pairing to wirelessly connect two portable speakers for richer, more immersive sound with stereo separation. To enable TWS pairing, connect one Bluetooth speaker to your smartphone, then press and hold the Bluetooth button on both speakers for 2 seconds.
- Surprisingly Punchy Sound: Despite its compact size, this portable speaker delivers powerful and punchy sound with 5W output, ensuring clear and dynamic audio performance.
Match sound coverage and bass to the setting
A 360-degree design can distribute sound around a table rather than favoring one listening position. In a small enclosure, however, expect limits on deep bass and maximum loudness. The Sony’s stronger high bass may suit bass-forward listening, but can cloud voices; RTINGS describes the WONDERBOOM 4 as more balanced through the midrange. These are different sound priorities, not a guarantee that one will suit every listener.
Compare battery figures with their source in mind
Battery numbers here are not a controlled head-to-head comparison. RTINGS’ 2026 guide reports more than 20 hours for the Sony, more than 13 hours for the WONDERBOOM 4 and around 10 hours for the Anker. JBL’s manufacturer sheets state up to 12 hours plus Playtime Boost for the Clip 5 and up to eight hours plus Playtime Boost for the Go 5. Actual runtime varies with use, and the figures come from different sources and methods.

Read water and dust ratings carefully
The shortlist speakers carry IP67 or IP68 ratings, but a protection rating does not itself establish that a speaker floats. RTINGS specifically describes the WONDERBOOM 4 as floating; do not infer flotation for the other models from their ratings. Follow the manufacturer’s care instructions for water exposure.
Check live prices rather than relying on old list prices
Prices and availability vary by retailer, region and date. RTINGS’ report that the Anker was available on sale as low as $20 is a past observation, not a current offer. TechRadar’s 2026 coverage lists the Bose SoundLink Micro Gen 2 at $129, £119.95 or AU$179.95 and gives historical launch prices of $79.95 / £59.99 / AU$89.95 for the Clip 5 and $99.99 / £89.99 / AU$149 for the WONDERBOOM 4. Treat those as context from the cited coverage, not current regional quotes. TechRadar’s Clip 5 and WONDERBOOM 4 comparison
Best Value
- RICH JBL ORIGINAL PRO SOUND: The legendary JBL signature sound delivers surprisingly big audio and punchy bass from Go 3's small size.
- ULTRA-PORTABLE DESIGN: JBL Go 3's ultra-portable design goes great with the latest styles, and its colorful fabrics and expressive details make it look as great as it sounds.
- 5 HOURS OF PLAYTIME: Don't sweat the small stuff like charging your battery. Go 3 gives you up to 5 hours of battery life on a single charge.
- WIRELESS BLUETOOTH STREAMING: Wirelessly stream music from your phone, tablet, or any other Bluetooth-enabled device.
- IP67 WATERPROOF AND DUSTPROOF: To the pool. To the park. In the shower. JBL Go 3 is fully waterproof and dustproof, so you can bring your speaker anywhere.
One alternative if sound matters more than price
The Bose SoundLink Micro Gen 2 is worth considering if its strap and sound appeal more than getting the lowest price. TechRadar’s March 2026 review lists Bluetooth 5.4, IP67 protection, a weight of 0.3 kg, dimensions of 43 × 104 × 104 mm and 12-hour battery life. The review describes its fabric strap as practical, but says its value is weakened by its price. In a later blind comparison, TechRadar’s author reported preferring the Bose to the JBL Go 5; that is one reviewer’s listening result, not an objective consensus. Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- Choose the WONDERBOOM 4 for 360-degree sound, a balanced midrange and a speaker that RTINGS describes as floating, if its larger size is acceptable.
- Choose the Sony SRS-XB100 when longer reported battery life, a microphone and a strap matter most.
- Choose the Anker Soundcore Select 4 Go if a compact speaker with app EQ and a hook is the priority and you can do without a microphone or deep bass.
- Choose the JBL Clip 5 when an integrated carabiner is more useful than a pocket-first shape.
- Choose the JBL Go 5 when small dimensions and JBL’s stated IP68 rating are priorities, and its shorter stated runtime is acceptable.
