For a gaming laptop under $1,500 in the US, the Acer Nitro V 16 with RTX 5070 is the strongest deal-led pick in the available price evidence—if its sale is still live and you can live with an 85 W GPU and a 512 GB SSD. If you value a sharper screen, more memory, or a larger drive more, compare the exact configuration and current price before choosing: the GPU name alone does not tell the whole story.
Best overall deal: Acer Nitro V 16 with RTX 5070
PC Gamer reported the Acer Nitro V 16 at $1,199.99 at Amazon on October 6, 2026, reduced from $1,299.99. The reported configuration has an Intel Core 7 240H, an 85 W RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, a 16-inch 1200p display with a 180 Hz refresh rate, 16 GB of DDR5 memory, and a 512 GB SSD. PC Gamer’s October 6 deal report is a dated price observation, not a guarantee that the offer or stock remains available.

The 1200p screen is a sensible pairing for this laptop’s lower-power GPU: it asks the graphics chip to render fewer pixels than a 1600p display. The compromise is storage. A 512 GB SSD can fill quickly with a large game library, so check the exact model’s storage expansion options before counting on an upgrade. PC Gamer author Andy Edser described the GPU this way: “The GPU has been power limited to 85 W, but it should still do very well with a 1200p screen.”
How the alternatives compare
| Model and evidence | GPU and display | Memory and storage | Price context | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acer Nitro V 16, PC Gamer deal report | RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, 85 W; 16-inch 1200p, 180 Hz | 16 GB DDR5; 512 GB SSD | $1,199.99 at Amazon on October 6, 2026; offer may expire | Those prioritizing the RTX 5070 and a lower-resolution screen at the reported sale price |
| ASUS TUF Gaming A16 (2025), ASUS family specifications | RTX 5070 Laptop GPU; configurations can include up to 16-inch 2560×1600, 165 Hz | Two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots; configurations can include up to a 2 TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD | Current US price under $1,500 not established | Those looking for a higher-resolution display or upgrade options, after verifying the retail SKU |
| Lenovo Legion 5i, PC Gamer deal roundup | RTX 5060, 100 W; 15.1-inch 1600p, 165 Hz OLED | 16 GB RAM; 1 TB SSD | $1,499 observed in the roundup; volatile | Those who prefer an OLED screen and more listed storage over an RTX 5070 |
| Gigabyte Aero X16, PC Gamer deal roundup | RTX 5060, 85 W; 1600p, 165 Hz | 32 GB DDR5; 1 TB SSD | $1,299.99 observed in the roundup; volatile | Those prioritizing 32 GB of memory, 1 TB storage, or a thinner design |
ASUS’s figures are family specifications and configuration ceilings, not proof that every TUF A16 sold includes those parts. The cited manufacturer page does not establish a current US price below $1,500. Check ASUS’s TUF Gaming A16 (2025) specifications and confirm the exact SKU before buying. The Lenovo and Gigabyte prices are deal observations, not lasting price guarantees. PC Gamer’s gaming-laptop deal roundup supplies those comparison configurations.

Choose by GPU power, screen, memory, and storage
Look beyond the GPU model name
A laptop RTX 5070 is not a complete performance specification. The Acer deal lists an 85 W power limit; the comparison listings include RTX 5060 systems at 85 W and 100 W. Compare the GPU implementation alongside its model, rather than assuming two laptops with the same GPU name perform identically. The available evidence does not establish comparable benchmark scores or frame rates for these specific machines.
Match resolution to the games you play
A 1200p screen generally demands less rendering work than a 1600p screen, which makes the Acer’s display a reasonable partner for its 85 W RTX 5070. The alternatives offer 1600p panels, including a 165 Hz OLED on the Legion 5i. Higher resolution can provide a sharper image, while OLED is a panel preference rather than a guarantee of higher game performance. A 165 Hz or 180 Hz refresh rate is useful only when a game and its settings can produce enough frames to take advantage of it.

Check memory and upgrade options on the exact SKU
The cited configurations range from 16 GB to 32 GB of memory. That difference can matter if you keep games and other demanding applications open together. ASUS lists two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots for the TUF A16 family, but configurations vary; confirm the installed memory and upgrade path for the specific listing rather than inferring them from the family page.

The Acer’s listed 512 GB SSD is half the capacity of the 1 TB drives in the cited Lenovo and Gigabyte configurations. If you keep many large games installed, that is a meaningful trade-off. Verify the exact laptop’s expansion support and the configuration’s available capacity before assuming storage can be increased.

Verify the deal before checkout
Prices and stock can change, and a model name can cover different configurations. Before treating any of these as an under-$1,500 option, check:
- The exact SKU and whether its GPU, screen, memory, and SSD match the configuration described.
- The listed GPU power limit, where the seller or manufacturer provides it.
- The current price, seller, stock status, and total checkout cost, including how shipping and taxes are presented.
- Whether the offer is still active; an observed sale price is not a standing price.
A September 2026 price check by The Tech Search found that three of its four older guide picks had risen above $1,500, leaving only the TUF A16 at $1,499 at that check. That is a useful warning about stale rankings, not a current quote. The Tech Search’s September 2026 check illustrates why it is worth rechecking live prices rather than relying on an old “best under $1,500” list.

What battery-life figures can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Hardware reported a 9 hours 13 minutes battery-test result in 2026 for an 85 W RTX 5070 budget system, but the available passage does not securely identify the model next to that result. It therefore cannot be attributed to the Acer Nitro V 16 here, and it should not be treated as a prediction of unplugged gaming time for these laptops. See Tom’s Hardware’s gaming-laptop coverage for the broader review context; battery results depend on the tested model and conditions.
