Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe most useful trading-bot dashboard connects five things: net performance, downside risk, execution quality, data and runtime health, and whether results in backtests or paper trading carry into live trading. Returns alone cannot show whether a bot took excessive risk, lost its edge to fees and poor fills, or stopped acting on fresh data.
1. Measure net performance and trade quality
Start with the results of the trades, but make the accounting rules visible. A useful performance view includes net profit and loss (P&L) or return, expectancy (average profit or loss per trade), profit factor (winning profits divided by losing losses), trade count, win rate, average win and average loss, and the equity curve. Freqtrade’s backtesting documentation describes these measures and reports related statistics.

- Net return or P&L: State whether the figure is after fees, funding, and modeled slippage. A gross result and a net result answer different questions.
- Expectancy and profit factor: These summarize average trade outcome and the balance of winning versus losing amounts. Read them alongside the actual trade count and sample period.
- Win rate and average win/loss: Win rate is not profitability by itself. A strategy can win less often and still make money if its winners are large enough relative to its losses.
- Equity curve and trade record: Check how results accumulated, not just the final total. An attractive overall number can conceal a short profitable burst followed by losses.
Keep the period and trade sample visible: a ratio based on few trades is not a stable conclusion. The cited documentation supports tracking sample size but does not establish a universal minimum number of trades that makes a result reliable.
2. Put downside risk beside returns
Track maximum drawdown—the largest decline from an equity peak—along with current drawdown, drawdown duration, exposure or capital tied up in open positions, and consecutive losses. These show how deep and persistent a bad period has been and how much room the account has to withstand it. Freqtrade’s report includes drawdown size and duration, balance measures, and maximum consecutive wins and losses.

Be explicit about how equity is calculated. Does it include only closed trades, or also unrealized profit and loss on open positions? Freqtrade reports risk-adjusted statistics using both closed-trade and wallet-balance scopes, illustrating why the inclusion rules matter.
There is no universally safe drawdown or loss-streak threshold. Set alerts and limits according to the strategy’s risk budget, leverage, account constraints, and the operator’s tolerance for losses; configurable drawdown and position-limit alerts are described by Referential Labs, but that source does not prescribe a universal numeric setting.

3. Monitor fills, latency, and trading costs
Execution quality can determine whether a simulated edge survives in live markets. Track realized slippage, fees and funding where applicable, order-to-acknowledgement or order-to-fill latency, fill rate, partial fills, rejected orders, and timeouts. Where recorded, break results down by venue, asset, strategy, and time of day.

Referential Labs’ platform description covers slippage breakdowns, fill rates, partial-fill patterns, market-impact estimates, and checks of backtest assumptions against live behavior. Freqtrade’s backtest reporting also includes entry and exit timeouts. XTrading warns that simulations may fail to capture bad fills or hesitation; its backtesting guide discusses that limitation.

4. Watch data, exchange, and runtime health
A strategy can have sound historical results and still fail because the market feed is stale or the execution pipeline is unavailable. Monitor:
- Market-data age and gaps.
- Exchange API latency, errors, and rate limits.
- Retries and retry-budget use.
- WebSocket and other connection health.
- Queue depth and circuit-breaker state.
- Database and runtime health.
Referential Labs identifies stale or gapping market data as a failure mode and describes feed-quality checks. GoTradeMetrics documentation on pkg.go.dev describes exchange/API, retry, strategy, backtesting, and runtime metric families. The Binance Trading Bot project documentation also treats stale signals from a stalled computation process as an operational issue, not a market condition a backtest can simulate.

5. Compare backtest, paper, and live behavior
Align symbols, market windows, timeframes, and cost assumptions before comparing results across backtest, paper, and live stages. Then compare compatible metrics, inspect the actual trade list and equity curve, and check whether execution and costs behaved as assumed. XTrading notes that slippage, thin order books, changing market regimes, and overfitting limit what historical simulation can establish.

The Binance Trading Bot documentation says absolute expectancy, P&L, and drawdown depend on position size, so they should not be differenced across accounts with different capital. It instead compares scale-invariant win rate and profit factor side by side.

A backtest is historical evidence, not a live track record or forecast. As XTrading puts it: “A backtest describes the past. It does not forecast the future.”
A compact dashboard to start with
| Area | Core measures | What they help reveal |
|---|---|---|
| Outcomes | Net return or P&L, expectancy, profit factor, trade count, win rate, average win and loss | Whether results are positive and whether the sample is informative |
| Risk | Maximum and current drawdown, drawdown duration, exposure, open-position equity, losing streak | The severity and persistence of adverse periods |
| Execution | Slippage, fees and funding, fill rate, partial fills, latency, rejects and timeouts | Whether live fills and costs differ from assumptions |
| Operations | Feed age and gaps, API errors and rate limits, retries, WebSocket and queue health | Whether the system can make and execute decisions reliably |
| Validation | Matched backtest, paper, and live metrics; trade list; equity path; costs; market window | Whether simulated performance carries into operation |
If screen space is limited, prioritize net return, maximum drawdown and its duration, expectancy or profit factor, realized slippage, and alerts for stale data, exchange errors, and execution failures. Keep definitions available in a drill-down so an appealing summary ratio cannot hide omitted costs or open-position risk.
How to compare bots or strategies
Use the same comparison framework for each candidate:
- Compare return after costs, with the cost assumptions stated.
- Compare drawdown depth and duration, not just final return.
- Review trade quality and sample size, including the equity path.
- Compare execution quality and operational reliability.
- Align test windows, markets, capital assumptions, and cost models before drawing conclusions.
Sharpe, Sortino, and Calmar ratios can summarize different aspects of return and risk. Freqtrade documents these ratios and their calculation scope, but neither the cited documentation nor XTrading’s guide supports treating any one ratio or cutoff as universally decisive.
