If the iOS 26 interface feels harder to read, too transparent, too animated, or unfamiliar, adjust only the settings that address that problem. The steps below use Apple’s iOS 26 documentation; check your installed iOS version if a path or label differs.
Make text and the interface easier to read
If labels or text are difficult to scan, start with text-specific controls rather than changing the overall look.

- Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and adjust the slider.
- If text still needs more emphasis, return to Display & Brightness and turn on Bold Text.
- To enlarge more than text, open Display & Brightness > Display Zoom, choose Larger Text, then tap Use Zoomed.
For additional display adjustments, see Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. These options change text, contrast, or scale; they do not switch Liquid Glass to a different appearance. Apple documents the controls in its iPhone display and text settings guide.

To adjust the redesigned interface’s translucent appearance, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass. Apple describes the choice this way: “Choose Clear for a more transparent look or Tinted for more contrast and increased opacity.” Clear favors transparency; Tinted makes the effect more opaque and adds contrast. Neither is universally best, so choose the one that makes your screen easier to use.

If the appearance choice cannot be changed, check Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Apple says Reduced Transparency or Increased Contrast must be off to change the Liquid Glass appearance setting. See Apple’s display and text settings guide.
Restore familiar Home Screen cues
Home Screen icon options are changed on the screen itself, not in Display & Brightness. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle, tap Edit > Customize, then choose an appearance such as Light, Dark, Clear, or Tinted. You can also adjust tint color and saturation or select larger icons.

Large icons do not show app names. Try one visual change at a time so you can judge it against your wallpaper and your own visibility needs. Apple’s iPhone customization guide covers Home Screen and Lock Screen options.

Lock Screen
Touch and hold the Lock Screen to open the wallpaper gallery. From there, Apple’s customization options include wallpaper appearance, widgets, clock size, and the controls at the bottom of the screen. Changing these can make the screen feel more familiar without altering system-wide display settings.

Control Center
Open Control Center and tap Add New, then Add a Control to browse and choose controls. On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center; on an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge. Apple documents these customization steps in its iPhone customization guide.
Reduce motion or tailor visual settings for one app
Reduce motion
If interface movement distracts you, open Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn on Reduce Motion. Apple says more motion, including Liquid Glass fluid morphing effects, is shown when Reduce Motion is off. This is an optional preference, not a guaranteed treatment for a health condition. Per-app visual settings
When only a particular app or the Home Screen and App Library needs different visual treatment, open Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings. Add the app, or choose Home Screen & App Library, then select from the settings available for that item. Options can vary by app. Apple’s current per-app visual settings guide is labeled for iOS 27, so its labels or availability may differ from an iOS 26 device.

Adjust Safari separately from the rest of iPhone
If the main problem is reading or navigating websites, Safari has its own controls. In Safari, use the Page menu to change a website’s text size, open Reader when it is available, or hide the toolbar. To change where Safari saves downloads, go to Settings > Apps > Safari and choose a Downloads destination. The Start Page can also show or hide items such as Favorites, Privacy Report, Reading List, and recently closed tabs. These choices affect Safari rather than the iPhone’s overall display. Apple notes that features may not be available on every iPhone model and that Settings sections can vary by model. The relevant documentation includes Apple’s Settings organization guide, labeled for iOS 27, and the iOS 26 what’s new guide. Check your iPhone model and installed iOS version if an option is missing or a path differs.
