The best internet provider in Philadelphia is the one that serves your exact address on terms that fit your household. Start by checking for Verizon Fios fiber, then compare any eligible Verizon 5G Home and Xfinity offers. Availability differs by street and building, so citywide listings are a shortlist—not a guarantee.

Which internet providers should Philadelphia residents check?

Verizon Fios and Xfinity publish local plan details that make them useful starting points. Verizon also lists 5G Home service for some locations. The options below are provider-stated offers observed in 2026; eligibility, pricing, and terms may change, and none is assured at every Philadelphia address.

Verizon Fios: fiber where available

Verizon describes Fios as a 100% fiber-optic service and says availability varies by street and building. Its Philadelphia-area page lists near-symmetrical upload and download speeds on most Fios plans. That can be useful for video calls, sending large files, and cloud work, where upload capacity matters as well as download speed.

These are displayed offer prices, not a promise that a tier is sold at your home or that a particular speed will be achieved over Wi-Fi. Verizon 5G Home: check eligibility separately

Verizon lists 5G Home options ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps, starting at $50 per month. Those are provider-stated options, not confirmation that 5G Home is available at a given address or that the maximum listed speed will be delivered there. Enter your address and inspect the live offer before comparing it with wired service. Verizon’s local page lists its 5G Home options.

Xfinity: separate promotional and everyday prices

Xfinity’s Philadelphia page lists 300 Mbps at $40 per month promotional pricing or $75 per month everyday pricing. Its 500 Mbps tier is listed at $45 promotional or $85 everyday. The provider says restrictions apply; installation, taxes, and fees may be extra, actual speeds vary, and availability must be checked by address. Treat the two prices as distinct, and read the conditions attached to the promotional rate rather than assuming it applies indefinitely. Xfinity’s Philadelphia page has its offer details and disclosures.

How to choose a plan for your home

  1. Check every provider at your exact address. Use each provider’s address lookup, including unit or apartment details where requested. Service can differ between nearby buildings.
  2. Cross-check the result on the FCC National Broadband Map. The map’s address search shows provider-reported availability, technologies, and speeds. It is a useful second check, not a substitute for the provider’s current order page and terms. The FCC explains how to use the map and how its data and availability information work.
  3. Compare upload and download speeds, and the technology. Look beyond the download number if household members make video calls, upload media, or work with cloud files. Verizon says most Fios plans have near-symmetrical speeds; do not assume that characteristic applies to every technology or offer.
  4. Work out the full recurring cost. Compare everyday pricing with any promotional rate, and account for taxes, fees, installation, equipment, and billing requirements disclosed for the particular plan. A lower introductory figure may not be the lasting monthly price.
  5. Read the current terms. Check the plan’s contract, price guarantee, data policy, and any bundle or billing requirements. These can vary by offer, so do not infer them from a provider’s general description or another customer’s plan.
  6. Pick capacity for your household, not the biggest advertised tier. Consider how many people and devices use the connection at once and what they do online. Choose among the speeds actually offered to your address; the highest tier is not automatically necessary.

What citywide provider listings can—and cannot—tell you

A Philadelphia provider directory can help surface additional candidates using technologies such as fixed wireless, satellite, cable, or fiber. One secondary listing bases its availability estimates primarily on FCC Broadband Data Collection data for December 2025, published May 2026, with FCC revisions through July 2026. Its citywide estimates and maximum advertised speeds do not establish service at a particular home or measure real-world performance. Treat such listings as discovery tools, then confirm availability and plan terms directly with the provider. The FCC map also reflects provider-reported data and is updated through ISP submissions, FCC verification, location data, and public information.
