Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First identify which Google Calendar alert is missing: an email, a desktop notification, or an alert inside Calendar. These are separate delivery types, so check the affected event or calendar before changing settings for everything. For desktop alerts, Calendar must be open and notifications must be allowed in Calendar, the browser, and the operating system.
Identify the notification that is missing
Google Calendar can send email notifications, desktop notifications outside the browser, and alerts inside the Calendar window. Check which one you expected; changing a setting for one delivery type may not fix another. Google’s notification settings help explains the available types.

Check whether the problem is one event or a whole calendar
One event
Open the event and choose to edit it. Check its notification settings and confirm that the expected alert is configured. An event can have a custom notification that differs from its calendar’s default.

Events on one calendar
In Calendar settings, select the affected calendar and review both Event notifications and All-day event notifications. Calendar-level settings provide defaults for new events unless an individual event has its own custom notification. Changing a calendar default therefore may not alter an existing event’s custom setting. See Google’s instructions for changing notification settings.

Restore desktop notifications in a browser
Desktop notifications depend on three permission layers: Google Calendar’s setting, the browser’s permission for calendar.google.com, and the operating system’s permission for the browser. Calendar must also remain open in the browser. Google Calendar Help puts it plainly: “Important: To display notifications, open Google Calendar.”
- Turn on Calendar desktop notifications. In Google Calendar, open Settings → General → Notification settings and select desktop notifications.
- Allow the site in your browser. Open the browser’s notification permissions and make sure
calendar.google.comis allowed. Browser menus vary, so use the current browser’s site-permission settings. - Allow browser alerts in your operating system. Check that system notification settings permit the browser to send alerts.
- Keep Calendar open. A closed Calendar tab or browser cannot show Calendar desktop notifications as described in Google’s desktop notification guidance.
If permissions are enabled but alerts still seem absent
Check whether the operating system is suppressing or hiding alerts. Google notes that Windows 10 Focus Assist can prevent notifications during full-screen use, screen sharing, or gaming. On macOS, an alert may be in Notification Center rather than appearing as expected; behavior can differ while mirroring or sharing a display. On some macOS and Linux desktop environments, notifications can stack. These behaviors depend on OS version and configuration, so check the current system notification and focus settings rather than relying on a navigation path for an older release. Google’s troubleshooting guidance covers these cases.

Check invitation and event-change notifications
If you are missing an invitation, or a notice that an invited event changed or was canceled, review your default notification settings for invitations and updates. Google Workspace Support recommends updating default notification settings for new, changed, or canceled invitations; Google’s Calendar notification settings are personal to each account. Another person with access to a calendar cannot change your personal notification preferences, and your preferences do not change alerts for other people.
On a work or school account, an administrator’s changes to an event do not generate a notification for the user, according to Google Calendar Help. If the missing update was made by an administrator, that behavior may explain why no alert arrived.

If the missing alert is on a phone
The official guidance covered here most directly addresses browser and desktop notifications and invitation settings. It does not establish a complete set of Android- or iOS-specific steps. First determine whether the issue is limited to the mobile app or also occurs in Calendar on the web; use the relevant device’s current app and system notification controls for mobile-specific checks.
