Named borate producers outside Turkey include Rio Tinto’s U.S. Borax operation in California, Quiborax in Chile, and Borax Argentina and Minera Santa Rita in Argentina. These are confirmed examples, not a complete global roster. Here, “boron production” means mining borate minerals or making boron compounds such as boric acid and borax—not producing elemental boron metal.

What do national production figures show?
The latest USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries country table reports 2025 production outside Turkey in several categories. The figures below are in thousand metric tons as reported by USGS; the categories describe different materials and are not directly interchangeable. For Chile, USGS reports 2024 ulexite production of 252,317 metric tons, down from 450,239 metric tons in 2023, attributing the decline to lower regional output. In 2024, Arica y Parinacota produced about 85% of Chile’s ulexite and all of its boric acid, according to the profile. Why “boron production” needs qualification
Commercial reports often use “boron” as shorthand for borates and boron-bearing compounds. The companies identified here mine minerals such as ulexite or tincal, or process them into products such as boric acid and borax. That is different from producing elemental boron metal.

Company-reported production, installed capacity, and national statistics measure different things. Rio Tinto’s stated annual refined-borates figure is a company production claim; Quiborax’s figure is plant capacity; USGS country entries use their own material categories. None alone supports a like-for-like ranking of the named companies.
What the available figures cannot establish
The evidence supports named operations in the United States, Chile, and Argentina, alongside USGS-reported country production in Bolivia, China, Germany, Peru, and Russia. It does not establish a current named operator for every country in that table. Nor does the available information provide a consistent company-by-company comparison of mine ownership, operating status, product form, and annual output.
