Which Ape Escape games are listed for PS4 and PS5?
The PlayStation Store listings reviewed for this article confirm two entries for both consoles:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Ape Escape, converted from the original PlayStation release. See the US PlayStation Store listing.
- Ape Escape: On the Loose, converted from the PSP release. See the US PlayStation Store listing.
The US listings display a $9.99 purchase option for each and show PlayStation Plus Premium access. Those are Store snapshots, not guaranteed prices or proof that a title will remain in the subscription catalog. The UK listing for the original Ape Escape showed £7.99 when accessed in 2026; check the current listing for your country for its price and terms.

- The Playstation 2 system lets you play original PS1 games as well as the huge selection of PS2 games
- Includes: Playstation 2 System, 1 Dual Shock 2 Controller, AC Cable, AV Cable
- Color: Black
- PlayStation2 is equipped with a 128-bit Emotion Engine processor that enables lightning-fast gameplay and impressive graphics power
Check PlayStation Plus Premium access
If you would rather use a subscription, first confirm that the game is currently in the Classics Catalog for your country and that your membership includes the required plan. Sony’s instructions explain how to find eligible games through the PlayStation Plus area on PS5 or PS4. Catalog availability and subscription terms can change; a Store page displaying Premium access is not a promise of permanent inclusion.
Sony says streaming requires the appropriate membership and a broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps, or at least 15 Mbps for 1080p streaming when the game supports that resolution. Downloading also requires an eligible plan. Whether a title can be downloaded or streamed depends on the game and region.

How the modern versions differ from the originals
Original Ape Escape
Sony describes this as the original PlayStation game converted for PS4 and PS5, with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. Its US listing names DualSense and DUALSHOCK 4 wireless-controller support. It also warns that the converted game may play differently from the original and that PlayStation-console peripherals are not supported, so some original functionality may be unavailable. Sony notes that PS5 play may require current system software and that some PS4 features may be missing on PS5. The US listing shows English voice; language options can differ by regional Store, as illustrated by the UK listing.

Ape Escape: On the Loose
This is a conversion of the PSP game, also listed with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. Sony warns that it may behave differently from the original and that PSP peripherals are not supported. The Store describes it as a one-player game with offline play enabled. Check your regional product page for its language options and current compatibility details.

What about Ape Escape 2 and Ape Escape 3?
The official-store search reviewed here did not confirm modern-console listings for Ape Escape 2 or Ape Escape 3. That does not establish that they are unavailable everywhere: PlayStation Store catalogs differ by country and can change. Search your local Store and current Classics Catalog rather than assuming a PS2 disc or a legacy copy will work on PS4 or PS5. The sources reviewed do not verify those older physical releases as a way to play on these consoles.
