In GTA V, the main cryptid-style payoff is in Story Mode: collect all 27 regular peyote plants after meeting the completion requirements, then follow the seven-day Golden Peyote sequence that leads to the Sasquatch (Bigfoot) outcome. GTA Online works differently: its peyote activity is event-dependent, with 76 possible plant locations when Rockstar enables it, and the special Bigfoot plant appears near Mount Chiliad only under specific time and weather conditions. Red Dead Redemption and Fallout Appalachia offer comparable folklore encounters, but they use missions, hunts, downloadable content, or named monsters rather than GTA’s transformation mechanic.
What counts as a cryptid encounter in these games?
“Cryptid” can mean a folklore creature such as Bigfoot, a creature inspired by regional legends, or an encounter deliberately presented as mysterious. Open-world games implement that idea in several ways:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Transformation: GTA V’s peyote plants let the player experience an animal hallucination. The Golden Peyote chain turns that system into a Sasquatch/Bigfoot payoff.
- Mission or hunt: Red Dead Redemption places mythical creatures in quests, side content, or downloadable content.
- World roster: Fallout Appalachia treats cryptids as named monsters that can appear as part of the region’s broader enemy and story design.
Use the encounter type to set expectations. A GTA plant hunt is a collectible-and-sequence puzzle; a Red Dead encounter is usually a piece of narrative or mission progression; a Fallout cryptid is generally a creature to discover, fight, or investigate.
GTA V Story Mode: the complete Bigfoot route
The reliable Story Mode route has two layers. First, complete the regular peyote set. Only after the stated completion gates are satisfied does the Golden Peyote sequence become available.

Prerequisites for Golden Peyote
The route described by the current guide material requires all of the following:
- Reach 100% completion in GTA V.
- Complete the stranger mission The Last One.
- Collect all 27 regular peyote plants.
These requirements are cumulative. Finding a few plants early does not replace the 100% and mission requirements, and the Golden Peyote locations should not be treated as an alternative way to finish the regular set.

The 27 regular plants, divided into three pools
Vandal’s breakdown, updated 2 September 2026, counts 27 regular plants in total. It separates them into land, bird, and underwater pools:
| Pool | Number of plants | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Land | 15 | Plants found on land; they trigger an animal hallucination. |
| Bird | 6 | Plants associated with the bird pool; the resulting animal is not guaranteed to be one particular species at every plant. |
| Underwater | 6 | Plants located underwater; they also produce an animal hallucination. |
| Total | 27 | All three pools make up the regular Story Mode set. |
The pool classification matters because the animal result is not a simple “one plant, one fixed species” guarantee. Treat the 15/6/6 split as a route-planning aid, not as a promise that every plant will produce a particular animal.

How to collect the regular set without confusing modes
- Load Story Mode, not GTA Online. The 27-plant count belongs to the Story Mode route. Online uses a separate, event-controlled system.
- Confirm your progression gates. Keep a checklist for 100% completion and The Last One before expecting Golden Peyote to appear.
- Work through all three pools. Record each land, bird, and underwater plant as you find it so that an apparently missing plant is not simply an uncounted entry from another pool.
- Use a current map for coordinates. Exact map positions and platform behavior can change in third-party guides. Verify the location against the version and platform you are playing rather than relying on an old screenshot alone.
- Finish the set before testing Golden Peyote. The cited route treats all 27 regular plants as a prerequisite, not an optional bonus.
The Golden Peyote sequence: Sunday through Saturday
Golden Peyote is a sequence rather than one isolated collectible. Reference material describes one Golden Peyote location for each day from Sunday through Saturday. Plan to make one step on each named day and keep the sequence in order.
| Day | Sequence step | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Golden Peyote location for Sunday | Begins the seven-day chain. |
| Monday | Golden Peyote location for Monday | Continues the chain after the Sunday step. |
| Tuesday | Golden Peyote location for Tuesday | Third daily step. |
| Wednesday | Golden Peyote location for Wednesday | Mid-sequence step. |
| Thursday | Golden Peyote location for Thursday | Fifth daily step. |
| Friday | Golden Peyote location for Friday | Sixth daily step. |
| Saturday | Golden Peyote location for Saturday | Final step associated with the Sasquatch/Bigfoot outcome. |
The available material establishes the day-by-day structure and the final Sasquatch association, but it does not provide a stable coordinate list that can be reproduced safely across every platform and guide revision. For the actual map pins, use a current location guide after confirming that the three prerequisites above are complete.

If a Golden Peyote plant does not appear
- Check the mode: Golden Peyote is part of the Story Mode route, not the GTA Online event pool.
- Check completion: 100% completion and The Last One are both required in the cited route.
- Check the regular count: the target is all 27 plants, including 15 land, six bird, and six underwater entries.
- Check the day: the sequence is organized from Sunday through Saturday, so a location can be correct while the day is wrong.
- Check your map source: if a guide’s screenshot or marker conflicts with the game, use a newer guide rather than assuming the plant has been removed.
GTA Online: peyote plants are event-dependent
GTA Online should be treated as a separate system. Guides list 76 possible peyote locations across Los Santos, Blaine County, and surrounding water, but those locations are not guaranteed to be active whenever you visit them. Rockstar must enable the activity through the live event system.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Before traveling to an Online location
- Check Rockstar’s official GTA Online Guides hub and current event announcements. Look for confirmation that the peyote activity is enabled for the current event period.
- Use an Online location guide only after confirming availability. The 76-location figure is a list of possible locations, not a promise that all 76 plants will be present at once.
- Search across the correct regions. The possible locations span Los Santos, Blaine County, and nearby water, so a land-only search will miss part of the pool.
The Online Bigfoot plant
The special Bigfoot plant is reported near the base of Mount Chiliad on the Grapeseed side. Attempt the encounter between 3:00 and 8:00 AM in fog. These are gameplay conditions, not merely suggestions for a convenient visit.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- If the event is enabled, travel to the Mount Chiliad/Grapeseed-side area during the stated time window and weather.
- If fog is absent, the time is outside 3:00–8:00 AM, or the activity is disabled, the plant may not appear.
- If the event is inactive, visiting the correct coordinates will not force the plant to spawn.
Online troubleshooting
| Symptom | Most likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No plants anywhere | The peyote activity is not currently enabled. | Check the official event information before searching again. |
| Ordinary plants appear, but not the Bigfoot plant | Time, fog, location, or event status is wrong. | Return to the Grapeseed side of Mount Chiliad between 3:00 and 8:00 AM in fog, with the event active. |
| A guide lists a location that is empty | The guide describes a possible location, not a continuously active spawn. | Confirm the guide’s date and the current event state. |
| Story Mode instructions do not work Online | The two systems have different prerequisites and availability rules. | Use the Online event and weather/time requirements instead of the 100%-completion route. |
How GTA compares with other open-world cryptid encounters
GTA’s distinctive feature is that the player consumes a plant and experiences a transformation or hallucination. Other games use cryptids as creatures in missions, side quests, downloadable content, or the permanent regional ecosystem.
| Game or setting | Encounter structure | Typical gates | What makes it comparable |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA V Story Mode | Peyote hallucinations followed by a Golden Peyote sequence. | 100% completion, The Last One, all 27 regular plants, then a Sunday-to-Saturday sequence. | Direct Sasquatch/Bigfoot payoff and a collectible transformation mechanic. |
| GTA Online | Live-event peyote activity with possible locations. | Rockstar activation; Bigfoot plant also requires the Grapeseed-side Mount Chiliad area, 3:00–8:00 AM, and fog. | Retains GTA’s plant-based encounter idea but makes availability temporary and event-controlled. |
| Red Dead Redemption | Mythical-creature missions and side content. | Quest or side-quest progression; some material is tied to Undead Nightmare downloadable content. | Sasquatch is the closest direct comparison, but the emphasis is on hunting or narrative objectives rather than player transformation. |
| Fallout Appalachia | Named cryptid-inspired monsters in the regional world roster. | Discovery, exploration, encounters, and game-world activities rather than GTA’s seven-day plant chain. | Includes folklore figures such as Mothman, the Flatwoods Monster, and the Wendigo. |
Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare
Red Dead’s mythical creatures are largely attached to missions, side quests, or downloadable content. That structure gives the encounter a narrative purpose: the creature is something the protagonist tracks, investigates, or confronts. Sasquatch is the closest thematic match to GTA’s Bigfoot outcome, but the player does not follow GTA’s 27-plant and seven-day transformation process.
Fallout Appalachia’s cryptid roster
Fallout Appalachia approaches the subject as regional world-building. Mothman, the Flatwoods Monster, and the Wendigo are named parts of the area’s monster variety. The comparison is strongest in folklore and creature naming, not in mechanics: Fallout does not reproduce GTA’s peyote-triggered transformation chain.

Choosing the right game for the kind of cryptid hunt you want
- Choose GTA V Story Mode if you want a checklist-driven discovery route with a defined Sasquatch payoff and clearly stated completion gates.
- Choose GTA Online if you enjoy live events and are willing to verify whether the activity is currently enabled, then satisfy the time and weather conditions.
- Choose Red Dead Redemption or Undead Nightmare if you prefer a cryptid embedded in a mission, side quest, or downloadable narrative.
- Choose Fallout Appalachia if you want to encounter several named folklore-inspired monsters as part of open-world exploration and combat.
For any game, compare four practical factors before you start: encounter type (transformation, hunt, or monster fight), prerequisites, availability (scheduled event versus quest or exploration), and payoff (playable form, collectible progress, narrative content, or atmosphere).
Quick planning checklist
- Decide whether you are playing GTA V Story Mode or GTA Online.
- For Story Mode, verify 100% completion, The Last One, and a complete count of 27 regular plants.
- Track the regular plants by pool: 15 land, six bird, and six underwater.
- After the prerequisites, follow the Golden Peyote sequence from Sunday through Saturday.
- For Online, check Rockstar’s current event information before searching any of the 76 possible locations.
- For the Online Bigfoot plant, use the Grapeseed side of Mount Chiliad, search from 3:00 to 8:00 AM, and require fog.
- If you want a different cryptid style, select Red Dead for mission-based mythical creatures or Fallout Appalachia for a named monster roster.
What the dated counts mean
The 27-plant Story Mode count and its 15-land, six-bird, six-underwater breakdown come from Vandal’s guide updated 2 September 2026. The 76 possible GTA Online locations come from GTA BOOM’s guide, originally published in 2019 and updated in 2026. Online availability remains dependent on Rockstar’s live event schedule, so a location guide can be accurate while the activity is temporarily disabled.
