What version of the demo is this?
SteamDB lists the demo as App 5024030, a 64-bit Windows build released October 16, 2026. It identifies CygamesEdge as developer, ZEREO Inc. as co-developer, and Cygames, Inc. as publisher. The release date matters when comparing reports: a fix or regression discussed for a later build may not apply to this demo, and no official source cited here publishes a crash rate or a guaranteed black-screen fix.

Check the PC baseline before troubleshooting software
A stable launch is not assured when the computer falls below the published baseline. Confirm each item in Steam’s system information, Windows Settings, and your graphics-driver utility before treating the behavior as a game bug.

These figures are from the Windows 11 game listing as presented by Valve/Steam in 2026. “10 GB available” means free capacity at installation time; leave additional headroom for Windows, shader caches, updates, and temporary files. A computer using a hard disk instead of an SSD, an older 32-bit Windows installation, or a GPU below the listed class may install the demo yet still fail to provide a reliable launch.
Run Steam’s supported launch sequence
Steam Support says games can fail to launch for many reasons because every player has a different combination of hardware and software. Its first-line guidance is to update Windows and hardware drivers, verify game files, disable non-essential software, and check requirements. Apply those actions in this order so each change is easy to identify.

- Install pending Windows updates. Open Windows Settings, choose Windows Update, select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart when Windows requests it. Do not skip a restart when an update has replaced system components.
- Update the graphics driver from the GPU manufacturer. Identify whether the system uses an NVIDIA or AMD GPU, install the current driver package for that model and Windows 11, and restart. If the driver installer offers a clean-install option, use it only when a normal update has not resolved the launch failure; a clean installation removes existing driver settings.
- Verify the demo installation. In Steam, open Library, right-click Where the Seeds Fall Demo, choose Properties, open Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Wait for the process to finish, then try Play again. Steam may reacquire files that differ from its current manifest.
- Close non-essential software. Exit overlays, performance tuners, recording tools, RGB utilities, third-party security tools, and other programs that inject into or monitor games. Keep only Steam and necessary Windows services while testing. If the demo launches afterward, re-enable programs one at a time to find the conflict rather than leaving every service disabled.
- Recheck the requirements and free space. Confirm the operating system is 64-bit Windows 11, DirectX 12 is available, at least 16 GB of RAM is installed, the GPU meets the GTX 1660/RX 6600 minimum class, and the installation drive has the required free space on an SSD. If any item is below the listing, record that limitation when seeking support.
Fix a missing-executable or incomplete-installation message
If Steam displays Failed to Start Game (Missing Executable), Steam identifies three broad possibilities: antivirus interference, corrupted files, or a failed download. The message alone does not prove which one occurred.
- Check the installation folder. From the demo’s Steam Properties, open Installed Files and choose Browse. If the folder is empty or the expected executable is absent, do not download an executable from a third-party site.
- Review security software quarantine. Open the antivirus or Windows Security history and look for an item removed from the demo’s folder. Restore or allow a file only if you trust the installation and understand the security warning; otherwise leave it quarantined and contact support.
- Run Steam’s file verification again. Return to Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam replace missing or damaged files.
- Retry the download if verification cannot complete. A failed or interrupted download can leave an incomplete installation. Pause and resume the download, or remove the incomplete demo through Steam and install it again when the connection is stable.
If the executable repeatedly disappears after a clean verification, preserve the antivirus detection name, Steam’s exact error text, and the time of removal. That evidence tells the developer or publisher more than a general report that the game “does nothing.”
When the demo shows a black screen
The cited official material does not publish a Where the Seeds Fall-specific black-screen procedure. Treat a black screen as an undiagnosed startup failure rather than assuming a particular launch option, configuration-file edit, or driver rollback is a confirmed fix.

Check whether the process is still alive
Listen for menu audio, watch for controller vibration, and try a single input such as the Windows key. If audio or input continues, the process may be running while rendering fails; if the program closes or becomes unresponsive, classify it as a crash instead.

Record when the screen turns black
- Immediately after Play: repeat the requirements, Windows, driver, verification, and background-software checks.
- After logos or a menu appears: note the last visible screen and whether the failure happens every time.
- Only with a controller connected: disconnect it, test keyboard and mouse once, then report the difference.
- Only in wireless mode: test the same controller through a wired USB connection to separate pairing or radio problems from rendering behavior.
Capture useful evidence
Write down the GPU model, Windows edition and architecture, RAM amount, whether the demo is installed on an SSD, the exact time from clicking Play to the black screen, and whether sound or input remains. Include the Steam error text if one appears. Avoid presenting an unofficial workaround as established until the developer or publisher confirms it.
Diagnose crashes on startup or during loading
Immediate close with no message
Start with the five Steam-supported actions. A process that vanishes before a window appears is most often investigated as a requirements, driver, file-integrity, or software-interference case. Test after each action instead of changing several unrelated settings at once.

Crash after a file check or update
Run verification again after Steam finishes updating. If the installation is on a nearly full drive, free space before retrying; the listing requires 10 GB available, and updates may need temporary working room beyond the installed size.
Crash that happens only with other programs open
Close overlays, capture utilities, hardware monitors, and similar non-essential tools, then launch the demo with Steam alone. If that works, reopen one program at a time. This isolates an interaction without claiming that any particular utility is defective.

Crash that persists on a compliant system
After Windows and driver updates, file verification, and a clean background-software test, stop repeating the same steps. Record the symptom, timing, hardware, and exact message and escalate it as an in-game crash. Steam notes that third-party developers or publishers handle game crashes and errors after launch.

Get an Xbox, DualShock, or DualSense controller recognized
The official Steam listing says “Full Controller Support” for Xbox, DualShock, and DualSense controllers and states, “The developers recommend playing this game with a controller.” That establishes supported device families, not a guarantee that every Bluetooth adapter, cable, firmware version, or third-party mapping layer will work.
- Connect before launching. Plug in the Xbox, DualShock, or DualSense controller, wait for Windows to detect it, and then start the demo. This gives Steam and the game a device to enumerate during startup.
- Confirm Steam sees the device. Open Steam’s controller settings and check that the controller appears and responds to button tests. If it is absent there, troubleshoot the cable, Bluetooth pairing, batteries, or Windows device detection before blaming the demo.
- Check the game’s per-title controller configuration. In the demo’s Steam Properties, open the controller page and inspect the selected Steam Input behavior. Use one consistent mapping mode while diagnosing; switching modes repeatedly makes results difficult to interpret.
- Test a wired USB connection. Wireless pairing can fail independently of game support. A direct USB connection is a diagnostic comparison, not a documented game-specific fix. If wired input works but Bluetooth does not, focus on pairing, adapter, firmware, or operating-system detection.
- Test one controller at a time. Disconnect extra gamepads, virtual controllers, and remapping devices, then relaunch. This prevents two input layers from competing for the same buttons.
If keyboard and mouse work but an officially supported controller does not, include the controller family, wired or wireless connection, whether Steam detects it, and the selected Steam Input mode in your support report. If the game itself crashes when the controller is connected, report that separately from ordinary button-mapping failure.

Steam’s support guidance assigns post-launch crashes, game bugs, and gameplay or controller questions to the third-party developer or publisher. Use Steam Support for Steam authentication and platform problems; do not send an in-game bug report to the wrong queue.
