On Twitch’s website, open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream. Under Primary Stream Key, choose Show to display it briefly or Copy to place it on your clipboard. You can also go directly to https://dashboard.twitch.tv/settings/stream after signing in.
Find your Twitch stream key on desktop
- Sign in to Twitch in a desktop browser.
- Open your account menu and select Creator Dashboard.
- In the dashboard’s left navigation, select Settings. This is the dashboard settings menu, not Twitch’s general account-settings page.
- Select Stream.
- Find Primary Stream Key, then select Show or Copy.
Twitch identifies this location in its stream-key FAQ and Creator Dashboard guide. Labels can change as Twitch updates the dashboard.

Show versus Copy
- Show temporarily displays the key so you can inspect or manually copy it.
- Copy copies it without putting the secret on screen.
Treat the key as a credential. Do not paste it into chat, screenshots, public documents, support forums, or an on-screen overlay. Twitch specifically warns users not to share it.

Creator Dashboard is available to Twitch users, although some dashboard features are limited to Affiliates and Partners. If the menu is missing, use the account menu again or open the direct Stream settings URL.

Work through these checks in order:
- Use a desktop browser rather than a phone browser, where the dashboard can be difficult to navigate.
- Sign out of Twitch, sign back in, and revisit the direct URL.
- Expand the collapsed dashboard navigation and confirm that Settings → Stream is selected.
- Try a private/incognito window or another current browser.
- If Show does not reveal the key, check whether Twitch is asking for additional account security. Twitch’s FAQ indicates that two-factor authentication may be required in this situation; it is not a universal requirement for every account.
- Make sure you are signed into the Twitch account that your encoder uses.
- If the setting remains unavailable, contact Twitch Support. Never obtain or publish a key from a third-party website.
Use the key in OBS Studio
Current OBS versions can authorize Twitch directly, which is usually safer and easier than copying a key. OBS is free and open source; its version and interface change over time, so use the current build from the official download page and consult OBS Help when labels differ.
Preferred method: connect your Twitch account
- Open OBS Studio and select Settings.
- Select Stream.
- Choose Twitch and use the account-connection or authorization option.
- Complete Twitch’s sign-in and authorization flow, then apply the settings.
- Select Start Streaming for a test broadcast.
Manual stream-key method
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Set the service to Twitch.
- Paste the key copied from Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream.
- Apply the settings and select Start Streaming.
The exact controls vary by OBS release. Do not assume every version has identical labels.
Use the key in Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs generally lets you log in with Twitch, which is the recommended beginner workflow because it avoids exposing the key during setup. Its official guide explains the platform-login process and identifies a free Starter option alongside paid Ultra features: Streamlabs Desktop setup guide.

Account connection
- Open Streamlabs Desktop.
- Choose Twitch from the login or platform-connection screen.
- Authorize the Twitch account in the browser window.
- Return to Streamlabs and complete the stream setup.
Manual entry
If account authorization is unavailable, open the streaming settings, select Twitch as the service, and paste the primary stream key. Replace it immediately if you later reset the key.
Do you need a Twitch stream key?
Twitch mobile app
No. Twitch states that streaming from its iOS or Android app does not require a stream key. This applies to Twitch’s own mobile-app workflow, not necessarily every third-party mobile broadcaster. See Twitch’s FAQ for the current qualification.
Console integrations
Supported console integrations commonly authenticate through the console’s Twitch connection instead of asking you to paste a key.

OBS, Streamlabs, hardware, and custom encoders
A PC encoder can use Twitch account authorization or a manual key. Hardware encoders and custom RTMP workflows are more likely to require the key directly.

Reset a Twitch stream key
Reset the key immediately if it was exposed or if an old key no longer works.
- Open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream.
- Locate Primary Stream Key.
- Select Reset, Regenerate, or the equivalent current control.
- Replace the old key in OBS, Streamlabs, hardware, or any other encoder.
- Run a new test broadcast.
Refreshing the primary key changes the owner’s key. Twitch says this does not invalidate authorized streamers’ guest keys. Changing your Twitch password also resets the stream key, according to Twitch’s security guidance.

If someone saw your stream key
Assume the key is compromised. Reset it, update every encoder that stored it, enable two-factor authentication, and review account access. If you changed your password because of a security incident, reconnect third-party services as needed: Twitch says password changes can revoke existing third-party credentials.
Do not give the primary key to a moderator or editor. For multi-account broadcasting, Twitch has an advanced authorized-streamer feature with guest keys that resemble live_sub_[streamkey]. Removing the authorized account invalidates its guest key; resetting the owner’s primary key does not. Details are in Twitch’s stream-key FAQ.

- Confirm the key came from the correct Twitch account.
- Paste it again and remove accidental leading or trailing spaces.
- Set the encoder’s service to Twitch, not a custom RTMP service.
- Reset the key in Twitch and replace the saved value in the encoder.
- Reconnect Twitch account authorization in OBS or Streamlabs.
- Update the encoder from its official vendor.
- Check Twitch service status if the failure began suddenly.
- Do not post the key while asking for help.

The stream key identifies and authorizes your broadcast; the ingest server is the destination that receives it. Most broadcasters should simply choose Twitch in their encoder. Twitch says valid ingest endpoints are listed in its ingest recommendations and that most users do not need to set an ingest server manually: Twitch Stream Key FAQ.
Do not use Twitch Studio as a new setup
Twitch discontinued Twitch Studio support after May 30, 2024. Use a currently supported option such as OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, or another tool listed by Twitch on its recommended broadcasting software page. Twitch’s list also includes Talk Studio, Lightstream Studio, PRISM Live Studio, and Meld Studio; plan names and features vary by product.
