Gemini Spark has not been confirmed as renamed, retired, or removed. Some Gemini web users are reported to see a “Chat or Task” choice beneath the prompt, with task threads and schedules in the regular sidebar, but Google’s announcements and Help change log do not confirm that interface change or explain whether it replaces Spark. Treat it as a reported change affecting some accounts—not proof that Spark has disappeared.
What the reported Gemini interface change does—and does not—show
The report describes a “Chat or Task” choice under Gemini’s main prompt and task threads and schedules in the usual sidebar. That could make task work feel more integrated with regular Gemini chats for people who see it. But the available official Google material does not verify the controls, say how widely they have rolled out, or identify them as a rename of Spark.

That distinction matters: a task-oriented interface and the Spark product name are not necessarily the same thing. The sources available establish neither a Spark shutdown nor a definitive move of Spark into the main chat interface. Google’s Help change log records other dated Spark updates, but does not settle this specific report.

Spark was introduced as an agent in Gemini
On May 19, 2026, Google announced Gemini Spark as a personal AI agent in the Gemini app. Google’s Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs, Gemini app & AI Studio, described it as: “A 24/7 personal AI agent designed to proactively manage tasks and help you navigate your digital life, all under your direction.” That is Google’s description of the product, not an independent assessment of its performance. The same announcement described a broader Gemini redesign using Google’s Neural Expressive design language and the integration of Gemini Live; it did not establish that the later-reported “Chat or Task” controls were part of that redesign.

Google also said in that May 19 announcement that Gemini had more than 900 million monthly users across 230 countries and more than 70 languages. Those figures are Google’s, dated to the announcement, and have not been independently verified here.
Mac, connected services, and local files
In its June 30, 2026 announcement, Google described a macOS beta for Spark and integrations with Google Tasks, Google Keep, Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. Google said Spark on Mac could work with user-permitted local files and Google Workspace. These details show that Google was developing Spark across different kinds of tasks and services; they do not confirm a web-interface rename. The June announcement described assigning tasks remotely from a phone as a coming capability at that time, so that statement should not be treated as a guarantee of current availability.

Chrome browsing and regional rollout statements
On July 30, 2026, Google announced Chrome auto-browse capabilities for web errands. Google said Spark could use logged-in accounts and saved passwords with the user’s permission, and would hand control back for sensitive actions such as payments. The company said these browsing capabilities were initially rolling out in the United States. It also said Google AI Pro access was expanding to more than 160 additional countries. Those were dated rollout statements, not assurances that the features or plan access are available to every account today.
Why Spark may look different from one account to another
Access to Spark-related features can depend on the plan, country, language, platform, and rollout date. Google’s Help change log includes a July 16, 2026 entry saying Ultra support was rolling out wherever Gemini Apps were supported except the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. That entry also said US Pro access was rolling out in English. These are dated, feature-specific conditions; they should not be read as a complete statement of current eligibility for every Spark capability.

Availability can also differ between Gemini on the web, mobile, and macOS. A user who does not see Spark—or does see a task control in the main prompt—cannot infer from that alone that the product has been renamed or discontinued. Check the current Gemini app and Google’s Help change log for account-specific and updated availability information.

- Check Gemini on the platform you use. Look in the app or web interface available to your account; the reported “Chat or Task” controls have not been confirmed as universal.
- Review current feature and plan availability. Use Google’s Help change log for dated rollout notes, and check the app itself for what your account can access now. Plan, location, language, and platform may affect eligibility.
- Use task controls only when they are actually available. If your Gemini interface offers a task option, it may be a way to start task-oriented work, but the report does not establish that it is Spark under a new name.
- Pay attention to permissions and confirmations. Google said Spark’s Mac workflows could use files with user permission, and that Chrome auto-browse could use logged-in accounts and saved passwords with permission. Google also said Spark hands control back for sensitive actions such as payments.
What is confirmed, and what remains uncertain
Google has publicly described Spark as an agent within Gemini and announced dated developments for Mac, connected services, and Chrome. The “Chat or Task” interface is a separate reported change whose scope and relationship to Spark are not established by those official statements. Until Google explicitly connects the interface to Spark or announces a name change, the careful answer to “Where did Gemini Spark go?” is that its status as a named product has not been shown to change; the interface some users see may be changing, but the evidence does not establish why.
