WhatsApp is gradually rolling out a Liquid Glass redesign for its video player, led by a refreshed progress bar and bottom control bar. The change is reported to be reaching some TestFlight beta testers, but having a compatible version does not guarantee that it will appear for every account.
What changed in WhatsApp’s video player?
The most visible change is the progress bar. WABetaInfo describes it as a floating element at the top of the screen, with a translucent background and rounded corners. The background is white in light mode and dark in dark mode. The report also notes a refreshed control bar at the bottom of the player. WABetaInfo reported the redesign on October 6, 2026.

Apple describes Liquid Glass as a design material that “reflects and refracts what’s underneath it in real time,” while changing dynamically to bring focus to content. That is Apple’s general description of its design language, not a specification or endorsement of WhatsApp’s particular implementation. Apple’s iOS 26 feature page provides the broader design context.

WABetaInfo had previously described the video-player progress bar as under development in an August 20, 2026 report, alongside a Liquid Glass refresh to WhatsApp’s drawing editor. Its October report says the player change is now rolling out to some beta testers. The earlier report documents that development stage.
Who can access the redesigned player?
WABetaInfo identifies WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.39.10.70 as compatible and says some TestFlight users have access. It also says the latest App Store version is compatible, but WhatsApp is enabling the feature gradually. Compatibility therefore does not mean the redesign will already be visible on your device.

| Platform or channel | What has been reported |
|---|---|
| iPhone, TestFlight beta | Some testers are seeing the redesign; WABetaInfo identifies iOS beta 26.39.10.70 as compatible. |
| iPhone, App Store | The latest App Store version is described as compatible, but access is gradual. |
| iPad and Mac | WABetaInfo says the update is also rolling out on these platforms. |
| Stable release timing | No date is stated in the October 6 report. |
9to5Mac’s October 7 coverage also describes the rollout and cautions that the updated player may not yet be available to everyone. The iPad and Mac scope comes from WABetaInfo’s reporting; no WhatsApp announcement confirming those platform details is cited in the coverage.
When will it be available to everyone?
There is no announced stable-release date in the reports. Since the rollout is gradual, a compatible app version may still show the previous player. If you do not see the new bars, the reporting does not identify a setting or manual activation step that will force access; availability may simply not have reached your account.
