Windows “God Mode” is not an administrator account, a security bypass, or a switch that grants complete control of a PC. It is an informal name for a specially named folder that opens Windows’ All Tasks shell namespace: a long Explorer list of links to existing Control Panel tasks.
The shortcut can make older settings easier to find, but it does not create new settings or change authorization. Windows still checks your account rights whenever you try to perform an operation, and the list is neither a guaranteed inventory of every Windows feature nor a replacement for the modern Settings app.

What “God Mode” actually is
The name refers to a folder-naming trick built around a Windows shell identifier, or CLSID. When Explorer sees the identifier in the folder name, it treats the folder as a link to the All Tasks namespace instead of as an ordinary directory. The result is a single, plain list of many Control Panel tasks.
That distinction matters. The folder does not contain a second copy of Windows settings, and it does not unlock a hidden administration layer. It is a navigation shortcut to interfaces that already exist elsewhere in Windows. Entries can include familiar tools for devices, personalization, storage and other system areas; the exact inventory depends on the Windows version and configuration.

How to create God Mode in Windows 11
You do not install software or change a system policy. Create an ordinary folder and rename it with the required label and CLSID.
- Go to the desktop or another location where you want the shortcut.
- Right-click an empty area, choose New, and select Folder.
- Rename the folder exactly to
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. - Press Enter. The folder should change from a normal folder to a shell-style icon or namespace link.
- Open it in File Explorer. You will see the All Tasks list; double-click an entry to open its associated Windows task.
The spelling of GodMode is not important. The text before the period is only the display label shown in Explorer. For example, a folder named SystemTasks.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} targets the same namespace. The characters after the period, including the braces, are the part that identifies All Tasks.
If the folder stays ordinary
Rename it again and check every character. There must be one period between the label and the opening brace, the CLSID must be enclosed in braces, and the final character must be the closing brace. A typo makes Windows treat the name as an ordinary folder. Creating the folder locally, such as on the desktop, also makes it easier to verify the result before moving or deleting it.

All Tasks gathers links to existing Control Panel destinations into one Explorer view. Instead of moving through Control Panel categories, you can scan the names alphabetically and open a task directly. A mouse-pointer setting and a disk-partition task are examples of the kinds of destinations that may appear.

This is a standard Explorer list rather than a redesigned dashboard. It has no custom grouping comparable to Control Panel’s category-oriented presentation. A long list can therefore be useful when you know the name of a task, but less helpful when you are exploring an unfamiliar part of Windows. Searching within the Explorer window can narrow the list by a term such as “mouse,” “partition” or “network.”
Opening an entry does not guarantee that the operation will succeed. Some tasks require an administrator’s approval, a particular edition of Windows, a connected device or another prerequisite. The shortcut exposes the entry; Windows decides whether your account and system state permit the requested change.
What God Mode does not do
It does not grant administrator rights
Windows authorization is controlled by user accounts, group membership, elevation prompts and access checks—not by a folder name. A standard user who opens All Tasks remains a standard user. If a task requires elevation, Windows will request credentials or confirmation in the usual way. If the account lacks the necessary rights, the shortcut cannot override that decision.
It does not bypass security controls
The folder cannot defeat file permissions, User Account Control, policy restrictions or other access checks. It also does not make protected files writable, reveal another user’s data or turn a limited account into an administrator. Treat claims that it gives “full control of the PC” as a misunderstanding of what the namespace does.

It does not add new configuration features
Every item is a link to an existing Windows task. The shortcut does not install utilities, expose a new settings engine or provide undocumented commands. If a task is absent from your installation, creating the folder will not manufacture it.
It does not contain every Windows setting
Microsoft is moving many configuration pages from Control Panel into Settings, while keeping Control Panel for compatibility and for settings that have not yet migrated. Because All Tasks is tied to the Control Panel side of the shell, its contents vary by Windows release, edition and installed components. There is no universal item count that applies to every PC.

You can open Settings with Windows+I. To reach Control Panel, search for it from Start or open Run with Windows+R, type control, and press Enter. These routes remain useful when a page is easier to find in one interface than another. The All Tasks folder is simply an additional index for the Control Panel destinations that your installation exposes.
When the shortcut is useful
Finding a legacy page by name
If you remember the task but not its Control Panel category, the flat list can reduce clicks. Searching for a term is often faster than opening several category pages, especially when you are following instructions that use an older Windows label.

Keeping a personal troubleshooting index
Support staff and experienced users sometimes keep the folder near other diagnostic shortcuts as a quick index. It can put disk, device, personalization and account-related entries within one window. This is a convenience choice, not an indication that those tasks have special status.
Learning where a setting lives
Opening an item can show which legacy interface owns a particular option. That can help you recognize whether a guide is directing you to Settings, Control Panel or a separate management console. It does not mean the legacy page will remain unchanged in a future release.

The CLSID and the shell behavior are implementation details. The author of the original technical explanation, Brandon Paddock, cautioned in his 2010 personal blog post: “The existence of this folder and its CLSID are implementation details and should not be relied upon by anybody for any purpose*.” His footnote distinguished software that depends on the identifier from a person choosing to use the shortcut. In practical terms, the folder is reasonable as a personal convenience, but it is not a supported API contract for an application, deployment script or product.

That possibility is another reason not to build business-critical procedures around a particular item being present. If a task matters to your work, document an approved Settings or Control Panel path as well.
Managing or removing the folder
The shortcut is normally just a shell link represented by its name. You can move it, rename it or delete it like a personal shortcut. Deleting the folder does not uninstall a Windows component or undo settings you changed through one of its entries; it removes the convenient route to the list. If you rename it, the CLSID must remain intact for the All Tasks behavior to continue.
Before changing a setting opened from the list, read the task’s own labels and warnings. God Mode does not add a confirmation layer or a rollback facility. For changes that affect partitions, accounts, security or system-wide behavior, use the same care you would use when opening that task through Control Panel or Settings.
Common misconceptions, answered precisely
- “The name means it is a hidden Windows mode.” No. It is a nickname for a shell namespace shortcut.
- “Anyone who creates it becomes an administrator.” No. Account permissions and Windows authorization still apply.
- “It lists every setting on the computer.” No. It exposes a variable set of Control Panel tasks, while many settings are in Settings.
- “It is a replacement for Settings.” No. Settings is Microsoft’s main configuration app; the folder mainly helps with legacy Control Panel navigation.
- “It is an official feature with permanent behavior.” No. The CLSID is an implementation detail and may change in a future update.
Bottom line
Windows God Mode is best understood as a searchable shortcut to the All Tasks shell namespace. Create the folder with GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} when a flat list of legacy Control Panel tasks would save time. Keep expectations realistic: it changes how you reach settings, not what your account is allowed to do, and it cannot guarantee access to every Windows configuration page.
