Do not buy a replacement yet. Searches did not verify a Littelfuse fuse model called “EZ80.” The designation may be a misread part number, a reference to an EZ80 rectifier valve, or the unrelated Zilog eZ80 microcontroller family. Identify the equipment, read every marking on the original fuse, and match the fuse’s electrical, timing, physical, and safety specifications before installing anything.
Is there a Littelfuse EZ80 fuse?
No Littelfuse fuse datasheet or exact replacement was identified for a part named “EZ80.” That means an online listing that merely repeats the name is not enough evidence that it is the right component.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
“EZ80” is used for unrelated electronic devices. Philips indexes use the name for an EZ80 rectifier valve, while the Zilog eZ80 is a microcontroller family. A 1963 Mullard audio-amplifier text also describes an EZ80 valve and a separate 100 mA fuse in the same power-supply context. That historical 100 mA fuse is not identified as an “EZ80 fuse” and is not a replacement recommendation.

Why a look-alike fuse can be dangerous
A fuse is selected as part of a protection system, not simply by appearance or the number of amperes printed on its cap. Littelfuse defines a fuse’s interrupting rating (also called short-circuit rating) as “the maximum approved current which the fuse can safely break at rated voltage.” The current rating is a nominal value established by the manufacturer under controlled test conditions.
Two glass fuses with the same length can have different time-current behavior, voltage limits, interrupting capacities, or approval requirements. A fuse with a higher voltage number is not automatically interchangeable, and a fuse with the same current rating may still be wrong if it is fast-acting instead of time-delay, has an inadequate interrupting rating, or does not fit the certified holder.
- Never increase the current rating to stop repeated failures.
- Never bridge the fuse with wire, foil, or another conductive object.
- Do not change the speed or fuse type simply because a different type lasts longer.
- Do not rely on a generic assortment as a substitute for identifying the circuit’s required fuse.
A fuse that opens again may be revealing a short circuit, failed power component, damaged wiring, or an overload. The correct response can be diagnosis, not a larger fuse.

The equipment model is often the fastest route to a correct fuse specification. Manufacturers may specify a fuse in the service manual, schematic, parts list, or markings beside the fuse holder even when the fuse itself is worn or unreadable.
- Disconnect power. Unplug the equipment and allow capacitors, power supplies, and high-voltage sections to discharge according to the service instructions. Tube amplifiers and other mains-powered equipment can retain lethal voltage after unplugging. If you are not trained to work inside the equipment, stop at the external fuse holder and use a qualified repairer.
- Record the make and complete model number. Include revision, regional version, voltage designation, and serial-number information when the manual distinguishes them. A 120 V model and a 230 V model can use different fuses.
- Photograph the fuse in place. Take a clear, well-lit image of the cap markings, body, holder, and any label printed next to the holder. Keep the original fuse until the replacement has been verified.
- Remove the fuse using the holder’s method. A removable carrier, rear-panel drawer, clip, or soldered fuse requires a different procedure. Do not pry a soldered fuse out of a live or energized circuit.
- Transcribe every character. Record letters, numbers, punctuation, color bands, certification logos, and any “F,” “T,” “S,” “H,” “L,” “250 V,” “125 V,” or direct-current symbol. A partly legible marking such as “EZ8?” should be copied exactly rather than corrected from memory.
- Measure the physical form. Measure the body length and diameter without forcing the fuse into a gauge. Note whether it is a cartridge, miniature cartridge, blade, radial-lead, surface-mount, or a special fuse, and record the terminal style.
- Check the holder and surrounding label. The holder may state the required current, voltage, or fuse class. Also inspect for heat damage, loose clips, discoloration, or a cracked carrier; a damaged holder can create a separate fault.

| Specification | What it controls | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Current rating | The nominal current the fuse is designed to carry under the manufacturer’s test conditions. | Match the equipment specification and original marking. Do not increase it because the original fuse opened. |
| Rated voltage | The voltage at which the fuse can interrupt a fault safely. | Use a fuse rated for the circuit’s voltage and supply type. A higher printed voltage alone does not prove compatibility. |
| Interrupting rating | The maximum fault current the fuse is approved to break safely at its rated voltage. | Confirm that the replacement meets or exceeds the documented requirement for the installation. |
| Time-current behavior | How quickly the fuse opens at a given overload. Markings may identify fast-acting or time-delay behavior. | Match the specified speed or time-current curve. A time-delay fuse can tolerate startup current; a fast fuse may be required for semiconductor protection. |
| Physical size and terminals | Ensures the fuse seats correctly and makes reliable contact. | Match body dimensions, terminal style, holder type, and clearance. Similar-looking cartridges are not necessarily interchangeable. |
| Approvals and construction | Certifications, materials, and construction can determine whether the fuse is legal and safe in the equipment or region. | Match required approval marks and the equipment maker’s specified fuse family or series. |
Common letters are not universal across every fuse family. “F” often denotes fast-acting and “T” often denotes time-delay, but the marking system and test standard matter. Confirm the meaning in the manufacturer’s data sheet rather than assuming a letter from another series has the same definition.
Separate the three different “EZ80” possibilities
An EZ80 rectifier valve
The EZ80 is a vacuum-tube rectifier designation used in valve equipment. It is not a fuse and cannot be substituted for one. If the equipment contains an EZ80 tube, the fuse will normally be identified separately in the schematic, on the chassis, or in the service documentation. The tube’s presence may explain why someone described the fuse as being “for the EZ80,” but it does not establish the fuse’s rating.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Zilog eZ80 microcontroller
The eZ80 is a microcontroller family. A 2026-10-11 Hackaday report about that line concerns processors, not over-current protection. Do not use eZ80 search results, pinouts, or semiconductor part numbers to identify a fuse.
A misread or incomplete fuse marking
Printed characters can be obscured by heat, end-cap wear, or a holder that covers part of the body. “EZ80” may be a transcription error for a different series code, or it may combine a manufacturer code with a rating printed elsewhere. Compare the physical fuse, holder, schematic, and manual before interpreting the text.
What the historical 100 mA reference does—and does not—mean
Circuits for Audio Amplifiers by Mullard (1963), indexed by World Radio History, describes an audio power supply containing an EZ80 rectifier valve and a separate 100 mA fuse. That passage is useful only as evidence that an EZ80 valve and a fuse can appear in the same circuit. It does not identify a Littelfuse product, specify the fuse’s voltage, speed, interrupting rating, physical size, or approval, and it does not show that 100 mA is correct for your equipment.

Using 100 mA because it appears beside “EZ80” in a historical text could leave a modern circuit under-protected or cause nuisance failures. Treat it as a separate historical example, not a part-selection instruction.

Once you have the model and original markings, search the manufacturer’s documentation in this order:
- Fuse-holder label or rear-panel legend: Read the complete line, including voltage and speed symbols.
- User or service manual: Look for “fuse,” “replacement fuse,” “protection,” “power supply,” and the schematic’s reference designator.
- Parts list or schematic: Confirm whether the fuse is on the mains input, a secondary winding, a motor circuit, a heater supply, or a low-voltage board. Those positions can require different ratings.
- Manufacturer service information: Check revisions and regional versions. A later revision may change the specified fuse after a safety update.
- Qualified repairer: If the documentation is unavailable or the fuse is soldered inside a high-voltage unit, provide the model, photos, dimensions, and all markings to a technician rather than selecting by resemblance.
When a manual names a manufacturer series or an exact part number, use that information to compare candidates. The replacement should satisfy the documented current, voltage, interrupting rating, time-current behavior, dimensions, terminals, and approvals together.
How to compare candidate replacements after identification
Do not compare candidates by the name “EZ80.” Compare the complete specification. A useful record for each candidate includes:
- Manufacturer and series or exact part number
- Current rating and whether it is a continuous nominal rating
- Rated voltage and whether the circuit is AC or DC
- Interrupting rating at the stated voltage
- Fast-acting, time-delay, or other time-current classification
- Body dimensions, terminal style, and holder compatibility
- Required safety approvals and environmental or temperature limits stated by the equipment maker
Reject a candidate if any required value conflicts with the manual or original fuse. “Same size” is only a mechanical match. “Same amps” is only one electrical match. A part number that looks close but belongs to a different series may have a different interrupting rating or time-current curve.

Install and test the verified replacement
- Confirm the fault has been investigated. If the original fuse failed without an obvious cause, inspect the equipment according to its service procedure before applying power again.
- Verify the replacement one more time. Read the current, voltage, speed, interrupting rating, dimensions, and approval marks against the documentation.
- Install with power disconnected. Seat the fuse fully in its holder without bending clips or forcing an incorrect size.
- Inspect for abnormal heat or damage. Replace a burned holder, loose contact, cracked carrier, or damaged wiring as directed by the service documentation.
- Power up under the documented test conditions. Use a current-limited test method or qualified technician when the equipment is high-powered, mains-connected, or contains stored high voltage.
- Stop if the new fuse opens. Do not fit a larger fuse or bypass it. Record the conditions and have the circuit diagnosed.
If the replacement fuse blows again
A repeat failure is a symptom. Possible causes include a shorted rectifier or capacitor, failed switching transistor, damaged cable, seized motor, wiring fault, or an inrush condition that the circuit was not designed to tolerate. The appropriate diagnostic steps depend on the equipment and can require isolation tests, resistance checks, or an oscilloscope—work that may expose you to dangerous voltage.
- Disconnect power before opening or measuring resistance.
- Follow the service manual’s discharge and isolation procedure.
- Check for visible scorching, melted insulation, loose connectors, and failed components only if you are qualified.
- Have a technician verify the circuit if the unit is mains-powered, tube-based, high-energy, or unfamiliar.
Changing from fast-acting to time-delay, or increasing the current rating, can mask the fault while allowing wiring or components to overheat. The fuse’s protective function must remain coordinated with the circuit.
When the original fuse has no readable marking
Do not infer the rating from the wire thickness, the equipment’s wattage, the color of a cap, or a remembered value from another unit. Photograph the fuse and holder, measure the body, identify the equipment model, and obtain the schematic or service manual. If the fuse is a soldered component or the circuit contains hazardous voltage, give those details to a qualified repairer.
The most useful information to provide is:
- Equipment manufacturer, model, revision, and supply-voltage version
- Clear photos of the fuse, holder, nearby labels, and power-input area
- Every legible marking, copied character by character
- Measured fuse length and diameter and the terminal style
- Whether the fuse failed immediately at switch-on, after warming up, or only under load
- Any recent repair, modification, liquid exposure, overload, or unusual smell
That information can resolve whether “EZ80” is a genuine marking, a typo, or a reference to a different component.
Practical examples of the identification decision
The equipment manual specifies a complete fuse
If the manual names a current, voltage, time-current type, size, and approval, use those requirements as the controlling specification. The original fuse’s markings should agree; if they do not, stop and investigate whether the fuse was previously replaced incorrectly or whether the manual revision differs.

The fuse is marked only with a partial code
Combine the partial code with the equipment model, holder dimensions, and schematic. Do not search the partial text alone and choose the first visually similar result. A series code without a current or voltage value is not a complete identification.
The equipment contains an EZ80 tube
Identify the fuse from the power-supply schematic or fuse-holder label. The tube designation tells you about the rectifier valve, not the fuse’s rating. The separate 100 mA historical example cannot be transferred to the modern unit.
The fuse fails repeatedly
Keep the specified rating and investigate the circuit. A repeat failure is evidence that the equipment needs diagnosis; it is not evidence that a higher-rated fuse is suitable.

Bottom line
There is no verified Littelfuse “EZ80” fuse replacement supported by the available evidence. Treat the name as unresolved until you identify the equipment and transcribe the original fuse. Then match current, voltage, interrupting rating, time-current behavior, dimensions, terminals, and required approvals from the manufacturer’s documentation. The EZ80 valve, the eZ80 microcontroller, and the historical 100 mA audio example are unrelated to selecting a replacement fuse.
