A standard VR headset warranty usually covers defects in materials or workmanship—not damage from a drop, spill, cracked lens, or other accident. Accidental-damage protection, when available, is typically a separate plan with its own fees, exclusions, and eligibility rules. The exact answer depends on the headset model, plan, country, and local consumer law.
What a standard VR headset warranty usually covers
A limited manufacturer warranty is generally intended to address a defect in materials or workmanship during a stated coverage period. It is not automatically a repair plan for every problem that occurs while using a headset. Accidental damage and ordinary wear are commonly treated separately from covered defects, so a headset that stops working because of a manufacturing fault may be handled differently from one dropped onto a hard surface.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
When a fault appears, the distinction matters: the relevant question is not only what part stopped working, but what caused the problem and which coverage applies. Describe the symptoms accurately and let the manufacturer assess the claim rather than assuming a failure is a defect—or that a damaged item is eligible for a warranty repair. A claim may be treated differently under a limited warranty and an optional protection plan.

- Avoid dust and scratches: Using the AMVR lens protector cover, you can avoid dust falling on the lens and protect the lens from scratches or bumps, making it safer to carry on the go.
- Wipable lens and easy to clean: The material of the microfiber cleaning cloth for the AMVR lens protector cover allows you to wipe the lens with it directly after playing or working, and the cover can be cleaned with water directly after getting dirty, making it clean.
- Soft and Perfect fit: The lens protector cover is made of high density premium sponge, flannelette and mesh fabric, which is very soft and protects your lens from damage. And when you put it on the lenses of various VR models, it stays firmly in place and won't fall off even when the headset is turned upside down.
That is an example, not a rule for every VR brand. Warranty terms, periods, remedies, and exclusions vary by product and market. A plan may also cover only the headset, or specify which included accessories are eligible. Check the policy for the exact model and the particular item needing service rather than relying on a general description of a brand’s warranty.
Does a warranty cover a drop, spill, cracked lens, or scratch?
Drops and other impacts
Accidental impact is often excluded from the standard warranty. Apple’s Vision Pro warranty summary excludes damage caused by accident. AppleCare+ for Vision Pro adds protection for qualifying accidental damage, including incidents such as drops, but each incident is subject to a service fee plus applicable tax and exclusions. Apple describes the plan as covering unlimited incidents, but that does not mean service is free or that every kind of damage qualifies. Check the current terms for your country before relying on coverage. Apple Support: Liquid damage to Apple Vision Pro and accessories not covered by warranty
If a headset has been dropped, do not assume that the standard warranty will pay for repair just because the device no longer works. Check whether you bought a separate protection plan, whether it applies to this model and damaged component, and what fee or exclusions apply. For Vision Pro, Apple’s published AppleCare+ description is a specific example of an optional plan that adds accidental-damage protection; it should not be treated as a promise that every damaged headset or every type of impact will be serviced.
Liquid exposure
Liquid damage can be specifically excluded even when a separate accidental-damage plan exists. Apple says liquid damage to Vision Pro and its accessories is not covered by its One-Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan. Its separate AppleCare+ terms describe protection for spills subject to a service fee, tax, and exclusions. Read the actual plan terms applicable to your device and region; the standard warranty and the optional plan are not interchangeable.
Pay attention to the name of the coverage in the terms: the stated exclusion for Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty and AppleCare Protection Plan is not the same as the separate AppleCare+ accidental-damage coverage. The Apple Support page describes drops and spills as examples of AppleCare+ protection, then qualifies that description with fees and exclusions. It does not establish that liquid damage is covered under every Apple plan, in every country, or in every circumstance.

Cracked or scratched lenses and surfaces
HTC VIVE’s Product and Accessory Limited Warranty excludes accidents and physical damage to surfaces, including cracks or scratches to a product or accessory screen or lens. It also lists exclusions involving rough handling, liquid exposure, unauthorized repairs or modifications, and use outside normal conditions. The applicable document and term depend on the product and market. HTC VIVE Product and Accessory Limited Warranty
That makes lens and surface damage worth checking explicitly before sending a device in. A visible crack or scratch is not necessarily treated like an internal component fault, and a defect warranty should not be assumed to pay for cosmetic or impact damage. If you are considering a lens protector, choose one explicitly compatible with your headset. It is an accessory consideration, not a guarantee against damage and not a change to the manufacturer’s warranty terms.

Warranty periods differ by model and market
Do not assume that every headset from one manufacturer—or every device in the same product family—has the same coverage period. Apple’s 2025 summary gives Vision Pro a one-year term for defects in materials and workmanship. A VIVE support table updated February 10, 2023 lists the following examples; use it as a dated reference and verify the current terms for the exact device and country. VIVE: What are the warranty periods for VIVE products?
| VIVE product or condition | Listed warranty period |
|---|---|
| Consumer Edition | 12 months |
| VIVE Pro Full Kit | 24 months |
| VIVE Pro 2 Full Kit | 12 months |
| Focus Development Edition | 6 months |
| Eligible product purchased with Business Warranty & Services | May have a 24-month period |
A listed warranty period does not establish that accidental damage is covered. Term length and covered event are separate questions: a longer defect warranty does not, by itself, turn a drop or scratch into a covered claim. The VIVE table is a dated support reference, not a substitute for the current product-specific warranty; its business-service example also depends on purchasing the service for an eligible product.

Likewise, do not assume that a term listed for a kit applies to every device or accessory in a different package. Check the product name and conditions in the warranty documentation and confirm the purchase date used to calculate coverage. Meta’s current warranty period and accidental-damage policy are not established here, so consult Meta’s current terms for the exact model and country rather than borrowing a term from Apple or VIVE.
How to compare a standard warranty with a protection plan
Before buying or filing a claim, compare the actual terms for the precise headset and country. These are questions to check, not features that every provider offers:
- Covered event: Does the term address manufacturing defects, component failure, drops, liquid exposure, cracked surfaces, or lens scratches?
- Coverage term: When does coverage begin, how long does it last, and is enrollment required within a particular period?
- Claim cost and limits: Is there a per-incident service fee or deductible? Are claims capped by number, value, or replacement limit?
- Remedy: Can the provider choose repair, replacement, or refund, or does the plan specify a particular outcome?
- Eligibility: Does coverage apply to the exact headset and accessories? Are country, seller, proof-of-purchase, or original-owner conditions involved?
- Exclusions: Look for misuse, normal wear, unauthorized repair, modification, and environmental exposure.
AppleCare+ for Vision Pro illustrates why the fee and exclusions matter even when accidental damage is included. VIVE’s published table illustrates why the model matters even before considering the type of damage. Compare the terms, not just the plan name.
For a practical comparison, put the standard warranty and any optional plan side by side. First check whether the problem you want protection for—such as a drop, spill, or lens damage—is named or clearly included. Then check the plan term, the fee for each incident, any claim or replacement limits, and the remedy the provider may offer. Finally, confirm the plan applies to the device and accessories you own and is valid in the country where you will seek service. A plan’s label alone does not answer those questions.
Do not rely on an advertised accidental-damage benefit without reading its qualifications. In Apple’s Vision Pro example, the official support description says AppleCare+ adds unlimited incidents for the device and included accessories, but also says each incident has a service fee plus tax and exclusions apply. Apple’s published information here does not establish a current fee amount, so check the terms for your market rather than budgeting from an outdated figure.

How to prepare a repair or warranty claim
- Identify the device and damaged part. Record the exact headset model and whether the issue affects the headset, a lens, controller, base station, or included accessory.
- Gather purchase and coverage records. Locate the receipt and any warranty or protection-plan paperwork. Check that the plan applies to the device and accessories involved.
- Write down what happened. Note when the issue began and, for accidental damage, when and how it occurred. Describe the symptoms without guessing at the cause.
- Use the manufacturer’s current regional support instructions. Service options can depend on the country where service is requested and may be restricted to the original country of sale. Apple’s warranty terms state that local service availability can vary. Apple Hardware Warranties
- Do not open or modify the headset before checking the terms. VIVE identifies unauthorized repairs or modifications among its exclusions. Ask the manufacturer or authorized service channel how to proceed.
- Confirm the proposed remedy and cost. Ask whether the issue is being handled as a warranty defect or an accidental-damage claim, whether a fee or tax applies, and whether the outcome will be repair, replacement, or another remedy.
Keep your notes factual: for example, record when the fault appeared or when the drop occurred, and which part is affected. Do not state a cause you do not know. The manufacturer’s current regional instructions are important because service availability can depend on the country where the claim is made and, in Apple’s terms, may be restricted to the country of original sale. Before shipping or attempting a repair, confirm the next step with the appropriate support channel.

Warranty duration, claim procedure, and accidental-damage coverage for Meta Quest depend on the current terms for the exact model and country. Do not infer coverage from another headset maker’s policy or from user reports. Check Meta’s current warranty and claim terms for your device before arranging service.
Meta’s current official warranty or accidental-damage terms are not available in a readable authoritative form here, so no specific Quest coverage period, fee, or claim process can be stated. That is a reason to check the current official policy—not to assume that Quest follows the rules described here for Vision Pro or VIVE.
Consumer rights may add protections
A manufacturer’s limited warranty is not necessarily the whole of a buyer’s legal protection. Apple states that its limited-warranty benefits are in addition to rights under applicable consumer-protection laws. Those rights vary by jurisdiction, and warranty or service details can depend on the country where service is requested. Check the rules that apply where you bought the headset and where you are seeking service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a standard VR headset warranty cover accidental damage?
Usually, a standard limited warranty is designed for defects in materials or workmanship, while accidents and physical damage may be excluded. Check the exact model’s terms and any separate protection plan.
Will a manufacturer repair a cracked VR lens under warranty?
Not necessarily. HTC VIVE’s warranty excludes physical surface damage, including cracks or scratches to a product or accessory lens. Other manufacturers’ terms can differ, so check the policy for your exact headset and country.
Does AppleCare+ cover a dropped Vision Pro?
Apple says AppleCare+ for Vision Pro adds accidental-damage protection for incidents such as drops and spills, including the device and included accessories. Each incident is subject to a service fee plus tax, and exclusions apply; check current local terms.

Is liquid damage covered for Vision Pro?
Apple says liquid damage is not covered by its One-Year Limited Warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan. AppleCare+ is described separately as adding protection for spills, subject to a service fee, tax, and exclusions. Confirm the plan and terms that apply to your device and market.
How long is a VR headset warranty?
It depends on the product and market. Apple’s 2025 Vision Pro summary lists one year for defects in materials and workmanship. A VIVE support table updated in 2023 lists examples ranging from six to 24 months, depending on the device and eligible business-service purchase. Verify current terms for your model.
What should I do before sending a headset for repair?
Identify the exact model and affected part, find the receipt and plan paperwork, document when and how the issue occurred, and follow the manufacturer’s current regional support instructions. Do not open or modify the device before checking the terms.
The Bottom Line
A standard VR headset warranty generally covers qualifying defects, not every drop, spill, crack, or scratch. Check the exact model, country, and plan; compare fees, exclusions, and remedies; and document the issue before seeking service. Optional accidental-damage protection may help, but its terms—not the plan name—determine what is covered.
