Those are different capabilities. Compare the actions each model supports, the software it needs, its layout and profile controls, and whether it fits your operating system and workflow. If you want extra controls without replacing your main keyboard, a separate macro keypad may be a better fit.
First, identify which keys you want to program
F1–F12 keys
The F-row refers to the keys labeled F1 through F12. Depending on the keyboard, they may also trigger media or system actions, and manufacturer software may let you change their assignments. Logitech describes this kind of F-row customization through Logi Options+ in its Fn key shortcuts explainer.

The Fn key
Fn is a modifier key, not another name for the F-row. Pressing it with another key can access a secondary action, such as a media control. A claim that a keyboard has an Fn key does not establish that its F1–F12 keys are programmable.

Dedicated macro keys and broad remapping
Some keyboards provide separate, labeled macro keys in addition to the standard typing keys. Logitech’s G-Series support documentation describes assigning macros and other functions to G-Keys. That is distinct from changing an F-row assignment, and neither feature alone proves that every key can be remapped. Check the exact model’s documentation for the scope of customization it supports.

Check what the assignments can actually do
“Programmable” can cover different kinds of actions. Depending on the model and its software, you may be able to assign a single shortcut, a sequence of keystrokes, a macro, an application-specific action, or only a preset function. The available documentation for one model should not be treated as proof of what another can do.
For G-Series G-Keys, Logitech explains how to create and assign macros or other functions in its macro-creation guide. For Logitech G keyboards using KEYCONTROL, consult the KEYCONTROL guide to understand the relevant customization system. Before buying, match the documented action types to your intended tasks rather than relying on the word “programmable” alone.

Account for software and operating-system requirements
Some advanced assignments depend on a manufacturer application. Logitech’s G915 TKL product page says advanced features require G HUB; Logitech’s F-row explainer describes Logi Options+ for its function-key customization. These are product-specific examples, not universal software requirements.

Verify the exact application required, the operating systems it supports, and whether your desired assignments work when the application is not running or the keyboard is connected to another computer. The available product materials do not establish that profiles or assignments persist across machines or without vendor software for every model, so do not assume they will.

Compare the controls, layout, and profiles
Count the programmable controls you will use and check where they sit. Dedicated keys should be reachable without disrupting normal typing or mouse use. Also confirm whether the keyboard is full-size or compact, and check the regional configuration: layouts and key positions can differ by market.
Profiles matter if you want different assignments for different tasks. Logitech lists three macro profiles for the G915 TKL, and its G915 quick-start guide shows G-keys and macro-profile controls, including recording another macro under a different profile. That example does not establish that all programmable keyboards offer the same profile count or controls. Check how profiles are selected and whether the method suits your setup.

Consider connectivity and form factor
If wireless use matters, confirm the connection options on the exact model. Logitech describes the G915 TKL as supporting LIGHTSPEED wireless through a receiver and Bluetooth. Check whether those options suit the devices you plan to use, along with the keyboard’s operating-system requirements.
A separate macro keypad is another option when you want programmable controls but prefer to keep your existing keyboard. Logitech describes its MX Keypad as an LCD programming macro console that requires Logi Options+ on recent Windows and macOS versions. It is an adjacent accessory, not a replacement keyboard; confirm compatibility with your own computer and workflow.

A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Scope: Are you looking for F-row reassignment, dedicated macro keys, or broader remapping?
- Actions: Does the official documentation confirm the shortcuts, sequences, macros, or application-specific actions you need?
- Software: Which application is required, and does it support your operating system?
- Layout: Are the controls numerous and well placed enough for your tasks? Is the size and regional layout right?
- Profiles: How do you switch them, and do assignments behave as you need when changing computers or working without the vendor application?
- Setup: Do you need wired or wireless connectivity, or would a separate keypad preserve a keyboard you already like?
For a documented example, the Logitech G915 TKL product page lists three macro profiles, advanced features requiring G HUB, and LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth connectivity. Treat it as one model to evaluate, not a universal recommendation; verify the current regional configuration and exact feature set on the manufacturer’s G915 TKL product page.
