Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can build a small F-14-inspired RC aircraft as a foam profile model with a propeller, or choose a commercial twin-EDF model. Those are different projects: the documented Parkjets MDC plan is a propeller-driven swing-wing profile design, not an EDF jet. Its parts list and balance reference apply to that plan alone.
Choose the kind of F-14 build you want
The Tomcat’s recognizable features—twin tails, swept wings and long nose—can be represented in a lightweight profile airframe without using ducted fans. An EDF model takes a different route, with a fan-based power system and its own manufacturer-specified setup. Neither path is a controlled performance comparison; the cited sources do not establish comparative speed, flight time or handling.

| Build path | Propulsion and materials | Setup and experience |
|---|---|---|
| Parkjets MDC profile plan | Propeller-driven; the plan specifies 6 mm Depron, plywood pieces and carbon-strip spars. | The plan includes swing wings and a dedicated sweep servo. Use its own CG reference and verify control directions and balance for the completed aircraft. |
| E-flite F-14 Twin 40 mm EDF | A separate commercial twin-EDF aircraft. Its manual lists model-specific battery, weight and setup information. | The manufacturer says it is not recommended as a first ducted-fan model. Follow its manual for this model only. |
Build the documented profile version
Parkjets’ F-14 Tomcat MDC plan describes a swing-wing profile design made primarily from 6 mm Depron. The listed construction materials include 1/16-inch plywood for the control horns and motor mount, and 0.035 x 0.236-inch carbon strip spars.
Use the plan’s component list as a matched starting point
The plan page lists a 2212-06 outrunner, 30 A ESC, 3S 2100 mAh LiPo, 6 x 4 propeller, two HS-55 servos and an HS-65 metal-gear servo or similar for wing sweep. These are the designer’s specified components for this plan, not general recommendations for every small F-14-shaped aircraft. Check that any substitute motor, ESC, battery, propeller and servos suit the airframe and one another.

- Experience the legendary F-14 Tomcat through a highly detailed model designed for aviation collectors and hobby enthusiasts. The finished model becomes a striking desktop or showcase centerpiece.
- This 3D puzzle is designed for beginner-level assembly enthusiasts, offering an immersive hands-on building experience that helps cultivate patience, concentration, and mechanical problem-solving skills.
- This product is manufactured using high-quality, environmentally friendly plastic and employs an ultra-fine etching process to ensure durability, structural precision, and realistic aircraft details.
- Encourages understanding of aircraft engineering concepts while improving hand-eye coordination and spatial thinking through engaging mechanical assembly.
- Ideal gift for childs, engineers, collectors, model builders, and puzzle lovers for birthdays, Children’s Day, Christmas, or special hobby occasions.
Respect the swing-wing mechanism
The sweep servo adds a moving mechanism beyond the usual flight-control setup. Build and operate that linkage according to the plan, and verify that the wings move freely and symmetrically without binding. The plan page identifies the carbon center-section stiffener as its CG reference; use that reference for this design rather than borrowing a balance point from another aircraft.
The designer calls the model “simple,” but that is a description, not an independent difficulty rating. The page also recounts a one-evening build followed by a flight the next day; that anecdote is not a reliable build-time estimate or guarantee of a successful first flight.

What changes with an EDF F-14
The E-flite F-14 Tomcat Twin 40 mm EDF is a separate commercial model, not a configuration of the Parkjets plan. Its instruction manual gives a weight of 500 g without battery and 725 g with the listed 2200 mAh 4S Smart battery. It also suggests a 3:30 initial flight-timer setting. These are manufacturer figures for that aircraft and battery configuration, not estimates for a scratch-built model.

The manufacturer explicitly says this model is “not recommended as your first ducted fan model.” Its manual specifies low-rate aileron and elevator throws of 13 mm and 10 mm, and high-rate throws of 20 mm and 15 mm, measured as shown in the manual. It also directs the pilot to check CG with the wings fully extended, the battery installed and the battery disconnected from the ESC. Do not transfer those control or CG values to a different design.

- Scale replica of one of the most iconic and recognizable fighters ever flown by the U.S. Navy
- The most affordable and practical to fly F-14 Tomcat EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) jet model yet
- Functional 3-position variable-sweep wings plus full-flying stabs for an authentic and unique flying experience
- Twin 40mm fans and high RPM outrunner motors compatible with popular 4S 2200mAh 30+C batteries
- Real-time battery voltage, current, RPM and other telemetry data via compatible transmitters
Check the aircraft before its first flight
Whether the model uses a propeller or an EDF, its own design documentation must determine balance, control setup and battery placement. A familiar F-14 outline does not make another aircraft’s settings interchangeable.
- Confirm the CG using the reference for the particular aircraft and its specified configuration.
- Verify that each control surface moves in the intended direction and that throws follow the relevant plan or manual.
- Check battery placement, wiring, control linkages and moving mechanisms before connecting the battery to the ESC.
- For an EDF, keep hands clear of the fan intake whenever the system is armed.
- Use a designated RC flying field and perform a radio range check, as the E-flite manual recommends.
The E-flite manual notes that its model is small but can reach high speeds and cover ground quickly. Choose a flying site with adequate separation from people and obstacles, and follow the safety instructions for your model.

Check the rules where you fly
Flight requirements depend on your jurisdiction and the aircraft. In the United States, consult the FAA’s current Recreational Flyers & Community-Based Organizations guidance. Elsewhere, check the rules from your own aviation authority.
