The original XGIMI AURA 2 (model WM03B) is a 4K ultra-short-throw projector for viewers who want a large image without mounting a projector across the room. Its sliding motorized lid protects the lens, and its 0.177:1 throw ratio is designed for placement close to the wall. The trade-offs are the care UST placement demands, a manufacturer-rated brightness figure that is not an independent test result, and a gaming mode that can disable keystone correction.
There is also a newer product with a similar name: AURA 2 (New), model WM18P. This review focuses on the original WM03B; the software and memory differences matter if you are shopping, so check the model number on the product listing.

What the original XGIMI AURA 2 is
The WM03B is a 4K DLP ultra-short-throw (UST) projector. XGIMI lists a resolution of 3840 × 2160, a 0.177:1 throw ratio, and an image-size range of 90 to 150 inches. The throw ratio describes the relationship between the projector’s distance from the screen and image width; it does not mean the unit can be placed flush against the wall. Exact clearance depends on the image size and the furniture and wall geometry in your room.

XGIMI rates the original at 2,300 ISO lumens. The manufacturer says its parameters are measured in an internal test environment and that results can vary by user, so treat that number as a specification—not an independently verified brightness measurement. XGIMI’s original AURA 2 product page lists the WM03B specifications.

How it compares with AURA 2 (New)
XGIMI lists two generations. They share the same stated throw ratio and image-size range, but the newer WM18P has different software and processing specifications. The official US page for the newer model displayed $1,699 when checked for this article; prices can change, and that figure is not a price for the original WM03B.
| Specification | AURA 2, original (WM03B) | AURA 2 (New) (WM18P) |
|---|---|---|
| Smart TV platform | Android TV 11 | Google TV |
| Processor | Cortex-A55 | Cortex-A73 |
| RAM | 2 GB | 4 GB |
| Storage | 32 GB | 32 GB |
| Throw ratio and image range | 0.177:1; 90–150 inches | 0.177:1; 90–150 inches |
| Price noted on the official US page | Not stated for this model in the available listing information | $1,699 displayed on the official US page when checked for this article; verify the current price |
These are specifications from the two official listings, not results from a side-by-side test. Confirm the model number and software platform before buying: a listing titled simply “AURA 2” may not make the generation obvious. See the original WM03B listing and the AURA 2 (New) US listing.
Does the sliding lid make placement easy?
The lid covers the lens when the projector is not in use. Android Central’s reviewer found the original unit smaller than its predecessor and noted the motorized cover as part of its design. A sliding lid is useful protection, but it does not remove the need to measure the projector’s position carefully: UST projectors magnify small placement errors into visible changes in image size, height, and alignment.

XGIMI describes automatic focus, keystone correction, screen-alignment assistance, and adjustments for wall color and flatness. These tools can help with setup, but they are not a substitute for a suitably flat display surface and careful physical positioning. XGIMI’s AURA 2 overview describes those functions.
Check the room before choosing a screen size
- Measure furniture depth and wall clearance. Use the manufacturer’s placement guidance for the intended image size; the throw ratio alone does not give every required distance.
- Check the surface. A UST image makes ripples, unevenness, or a wall that is not square more apparent. A screen designed for UST projection can help provide a flat surface.
- Account for ambient light. Bright rooms reduce perceived contrast. An ambient-light-rejecting screen may be worth considering where room light cannot be controlled, but no particular ALR screen pairing was established for this projector.
- Choose image size for the room, not only the maximum spec. XGIMI lists 90–150 inches; the largest image is not automatically the best fit for viewing distance, wall dimensions, or lighting.
Picture quality and brightness expectations
In Android Central’s hands-on review of the original, the reviewer described vibrant colors, good contrast, and satisfying HDR viewing, including with a 100-inch image. Those are that reviewer’s viewing impressions, not instrumented brightness, contrast, or HDR measurements. The available evidence does not establish independent lab results for the WM03B.
The 2,300 ISO-lumen rating is best understood as the manufacturer’s stated specification. If you expect a cinema-like image in daylight, plan around room light and screen choice rather than assuming the lumen figure guarantees a particular result.

Gaming: low-latency claim, with a setup compromise
XGIMI advertises latency as low as 20 ms with AK off. That is a manufacturer claim under the stated condition, not an independent input-lag measurement. Android Central reports that game mode disables keystone correction, which means you may need to position and align the projector manually to get a correctly shaped image. That trade-off can make gaming less convenient if your setup relies on digital correction.

The 20 ms figure alone does not establish performance across every input, setting, or game.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Built-in sound and connections
The original WM03B’s listed audio system consists of four 15 W Harman/Kardon speakers, with Dolby Atmos support. Android Central’s reviewer found the speakers loud, while recommending a soundbar as an upgrade. External audio is optional rather than a requirement for basic use.
Rank #4
- Multi-angle Rotation: 120° Adjustable Angle. Easily switch your projected image from the wall to the ceiling.
The review reports two HDMI inputs, including one HDMI eARC connection, three USB-A ports, Ethernet, optical audio output, a 3.5 mm output, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2. HDMI eARC is the relevant connection to check if you plan to send audio to a compatible soundbar.
Is the original Android TV interface enough?
The WM03B runs Android TV 11. Android Central’s reviewer chose to use a Shield TV Pro for a faster interface and broader feature set. That was the reviewer’s preference, not a requirement or a measured comparison, and it should not be assumed to apply to the newer WM18P, which lists Google TV.
If you are satisfied with the original model’s built-in platform, no separate streaming device is necessary. If interface speed or app features are a priority, consider that reviewer’s experience as a reason to verify the platform yourself before purchase—not proof that every user will need an add-on.
Who should buy the XGIMI AURA 2?
- Consider the original WM03B if you want a large 4K image from a projector positioned near the wall, value the covered-lens design, and are comfortable taking time to align a UST system.
- Look closely at AURA 2 (New), WM18P if Google TV and the listed 4 GB RAM and Cortex-A73 processor are important to you. Do not assume a product page or marketplace listing for one generation describes the other.
- Consider another setup if you need a projector that can be placed casually, expect strong daylight performance without managing room light, or want independently established brightness and input-lag measurements before deciding.
For the exact original model, use XGIMI’s WM03B product listing as the reference point and confirm the model number with the seller. For the newer generation, consult the WM18P US product listing and verify its live price and availability.
