The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and vivo X500 Pro Max are both premium phones, but their published specifications point to different priorities: Samsung lists two rear telephoto cameras and a built-in Privacy Display, while vivo lists a higher-refresh-rate screen, a larger-capacity battery and a 200MP telephoto camera. There is no fair, verified price difference to quote across the two: Samsung’s US launch price was $1,299.99, while vivo’s China list price started at RMB 6,999.

These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. The figures do not establish which phone takes better photos, lasts longer per charge or is easier to see outdoors.

How to compare the prices fairly
At launch, Samsung announced a US starting price of $1,299.99, and vivo listed a China starting price of RMB 6,999 for the 12GB+256GB X500 Pro Max. Those figures come from different markets, currencies and configurations. They are not a like-for-like price difference, and neither establishes a current street price.

To judge what either costs where you live, compare current prices from local sellers for matching storage tiers, then account for taxes, warranty coverage and regional availability. Currency conversion alone would not capture those differences.
Which camera setup fits your priorities?
Samsung: separate 3× and 5× telephoto cameras
Samsung lists two telephoto cameras: a 10MP 3× lens and a 50MP 5× lens, alongside a 200MP main camera and 50MP ultrawide. This gives the phone two specified optical telephoto positions. The listed megapixel counts and zoom levels do not, on their own, establish comparative photo quality.

vivo: one high-resolution telephoto with optional converter support
vivo lists a 200MP Zeiss APO telephoto with 3.5× optical zoom and up to 100× digital zoom. Its September 2026 announcement says the phone supports the vivo Zeiss teleconverter G2 Ultra for equivalent 400mm reach. That accessory is a separate consideration; verify compatibility and local availability before relying on it. vivo announcement

Display and battery: specifications versus real-world use
vivo lists a 1–144Hz refresh range, compared with Samsung’s adaptive 1–120Hz. A higher maximum refresh rate is a specification advantage on paper, but it does not by itself establish smoother performance in every app or better image quality. The panels also differ in size and resolution, while the cited specifications do not provide a matching test of outdoor visibility.
The X500 Pro Max’s listed 8,000mAh typical capacity (7,800mAh rated) exceeds any capacity figure established for the S26 Ultra in the cited announcement, which does not state one. Capacity alone is not a battery-life result: software, display settings, network conditions and workload affect runtime. Likewise, vivo’s maximum 90W wired and 40W wireless figures are not a direct charging-time comparison with Samsung’s statement that the S26 Ultra can reach up to 75% in 30 minutes under its stated conditions.

Software, performance claims and practical compatibility
Samsung identifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and claims CPU performance gains of up to 19%, NPU gains of 39% and GPU gains of 24% against the baseline specified in its announcement. These are Samsung’s vendor claims, not independent benchmark results. Samsung also says the S26 series receives seven years of security updates; that statement concerns security updates and does not establish seven years of operating-system upgrades. vivo lists the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro for the X500 Pro Max, but the cited official specifications do not provide a directly comparable performance test or update-support term. Its specifications and prices cited here are for China. The available information does not establish global distribution or support for a buyer’s local cellular bands, Google services, warranty or software region. Check those details with the seller and carrier before importing or purchasing outside China.

Availability and which phone makes more sense
Samsung said general availability in the US began March 11, 2026. vivo announced that China sales of the X500 Pro Max would start September 24, 2026. These release details do not establish availability in other countries. Samsung announcement vivo announcement
- Consider the Galaxy S26 Ultra if its US-market availability, built-in Privacy Display, two listed telephoto cameras, or stated seven-year security-update period best match your needs.
- Consider the X500 Pro Max if its listed 8,000mAh typical battery, 1–144Hz display, 200MP telephoto or China-market configurations appeal to you—and you can confirm local compatibility, service and warranty.
- Do not choose on launch price alone. The published figures are from different markets and do not establish a current local price advantage.
Samsung calls the Privacy Display the “world’s first built-in Privacy Display for mobile phones”; that is the company’s claim, not an independently verified market-wide finding. The feature is a point of differentiation, but its value depends on whether you need screen privacy in shared spaces.
