Snapdragon X Plus is Qualcomm’s family of processors for laptops, including Windows laptops and Copilot+ PCs. It is a processor platform, not a complete laptop—and “X Plus” does not identify one fixed configuration. The exact model number determines important chip differences, while the laptop maker determines features such as memory, storage, screen, ports, and battery performance.

What does Snapdragon X Plus mean?

Qualcomm uses Snapdragon X Plus for laptop processor models in its Snapdragon X line. Qualcomm lists several model identifiers, including X1P-64-100, X1P-42-100, X1P-46-100, and X1P-66-100. The name alone therefore does not tell you the exact chip configuration or the full capabilities of a laptop. Qualcomm’s product page identifies the family and its variants.

A processor is one component in a PC. A laptop advertised as having Snapdragon X Plus still has its own configuration of memory, storage, display, connectivity, and other features. Those details must be checked in the specifications for the particular device.

Why the exact model number matters

Models sharing the X Plus name can differ in core count and other specifications. Dell’s published processor table, for example, distinguishes the 10-core X1P-64-100 from the 8-core X1P-42-100:

#1 Best Overall
Microsoft Surface Laptop, 13-inch | Snapdragon® X Plus (8 Core) | 8GB RAM | 256GB UFS | Platinum | Windows 11 | Latest Model (1st Edition)
  • Brilliant Display – Immersive Brilliance or Incredible image quality – The 13" PixelSense Flow touchscreen offers a vibrant and immersive viewing experience.
  • All-day Energy – Up to 23 hours of battery life[1] for local video playback for uninterrupted streaming.
  • Power up – Built with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus (8 Core) processors, Surface Laptop delivers powerful performance and AI accelerated power.
  • Turbocharged NPU – Surface Laptop features the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU that delivers up to 45 TOPS designed to accelerate AI experiences.
  • Express your style – Surface Laptop comes in three new colors – Violet, Ocean, and Platinum.[2]
Model listed by Dell Core count Total cache
X1P-64-100 (X Plus) 10 42 MB
X1P-42-100 (X Plus 8-core) 8 30 MB

Dell’s table also specifies different maximum multi-thread frequencies for the two models. Check the exact laptop’s technical specifications rather than assuming every X Plus processor has the same clocks or graphics capability. Dell’s Latitude 5455 specifications provide a device-level example. Microsoft’s Surface Pro for Business 11th Edition lists a 10-core option as X1P64100 and specifies a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU rated at 45 TOPS; that business-edition page describes its listed configurations, not every Surface model or region. Microsoft’s specification page has the configuration details.

How Snapdragon X Plus relates to Copilot+ PCs

Copilot+ PC is a category for PCs that meet Microsoft’s requirements; it is not another name for the processor. Qualcomm’s June 5, 2024 explanation described Microsoft’s minimums as an NPU rated at 40 TOPS, 16 GB of memory, and 256 GB of storage. The memory and storage requirements apply to the complete PC, not to what the Snapdragon X Plus processor name guarantees. Qualcomm’s explanation also describes an NPU as a dedicated processor on a system-on-chip designed to accelerate neural-network operations and AI tasks.

  • DISPLAY: 14-inch FHD+ screen with 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) resolution delivers crisp, clear visuals for work and entertainment.
  • POWERFUL PERFORMANCE: Snapdragon X processor with Qualcomm Adreno GPU and 16GB RAM ensures smooth multitasking and efficient computing for Copilot+ PC capabilities.
  • AMPLE STORAGE: 512GB SSD provides fast boot times, quick file access, and generous space for documents, media, and applications.
  • OPERATING SYSTEM: Pre-installed Windows 11 Home offers the latest features, enhanced security, and intuitive user interface.
  • WARRANTY INCLUDED: Comes with 1-year manufacturer warranty covering both parts and labor for peace of mind with your purchase.

Qualcomm said its Snapdragon X Plus 8-core model has a 45 TOPS NPU in a September 4, 2024 announcement. That vendor specification exceeds the 40 TOPS minimum in Qualcomm’s dated explanation, but the chip label by itself does not establish that a particular laptop meets every Copilot+ PC requirement. Nor does the category guarantee that every feature is present, enabled, or identical across devices and Windows releases. Check the exact PC and current software requirements for the feature you intend to use.

What the processor name does not tell you about a laptop

The X Plus name is not a substitute for the laptop’s own specification sheet. For a device you are considering, verify:

HP - OmniBook X 14-fe00 - Copilot+ PC - 14" 2.2K Touch-Screen Laptop - Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Silver (Renewed)

  • Display size and type, and whether the device is a conventional laptop or another form factor.
  • Ports and wireless connectivity.
  • Compatibility with the software and peripherals required for your workload.
  • Current availability and price in your country.

Battery-life figures are especially device- and test-dependent. Dell reports up to 27 hours of video playback for a tested Latitude 5455 with an FHD+ display, 16 GB of memory, and a 1 TB SSD, based on Dell Labs testing in August 2024. Dell cautions that actual battery life may be significantly lower and varies with configuration, use, software, operating conditions, and power settings. Microsoft reports up to 14 hours of local video playback and up to 10 hours of active web use for specified Wi-Fi Surface Pro preproduction test devices, tested in April 2024 under conditions disclosed in its specification footnotes. Neither manufacturer’s result is a general battery-life figure for Snapdragon X Plus processors; it describes particular devices under stated test conditions.

How to compare Snapdragon X Plus laptops

When comparing two actual laptops, begin with their complete configurations rather than the shared X Plus label. Compare the processor model and core count, memory and storage, screen and form factor, ports and connectivity, and compatibility with your software and accessories. Then look for independent tests conducted under comparable conditions and compare prices and availability in the same country. The manufacturer battery tests above are useful only as configuration-specific claims; they do not establish a processor-wide ranking. The cited materials do not establish an independent performance ranking across all X Plus variants.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
