The Hyperledger Cacti blockchain interoperability workshop is a recorded three-hour online course from November 14, 2022—not an upcoming class. It introduces interoperability concepts and surveys Hyperledger Weaver, YUI, FireFly, and Cacti, then focuses on Cacti’s plugins, API server, testing, container images, and a Hello World example. The original setup instructions are tied to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and should be treated as historical preparation guidance, not confirmed requirements for current Cacti versions.

What is blockchain interoperability?

Blockchain interoperability is the ability of separate blockchain networks or systems to exchange information or coordinate activity. The 2022 workshop starts with core concepts and principles before introducing several projects associated with this space. Its stated introductory framing is: “This is a three hour online course to introduce the core concepts and principles of blockchain interoperability.” Hyperledger Foundation’s workshop listing describes the course and its learning path.

Interoperability projects

The advertised sequence introduces Hyperledger Weaver, YUI, FireFly, and Hyperledger Cacti. The listing presents these as part of the course’s broader introduction; it does not establish a comparative evaluation or a recommendation among them.

Hyperledger Cacti topics

The Cacti portion is described as covering its plugin architecture and API server, developing and running tests with all-in-one container images, a Hello World example, and considerations about the project’s future. The listing identifies topics, not a verified transcript of specific demonstrations or their outcomes.

The speakers named by The Linux Foundation are Rafael Belchior, Senior Engineer for R&D at Blockdaemon, and Peter Somogyvari, Software Product Architect – Manager at Accenture and a maintainer of Hyperledger Cacti. The Linux Foundation webinar page dates the recording to November 14, 2022: Blockchain Interoperability with Hyperledger Cacti.

How do I prepare for the Hyperledger Cacti workshop?

The original event page gives preparation instructions for following along with the development environment. They were published for the 2022 workshop and are not confirmation that the same steps or operating-system version apply to current releases.

  1. Use Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, either in a virtual machine or on bare metal, as specified by the event page.
  2. Install the project dependencies and development environment as described in the Cacti developer guide, then run yarn run configure.
  3. Run a test from any package and continue through the developer guide up to, but not including, its build-script decision-tree step.

The dated requirements and sequence appear on the Hyperledger Foundation workshop page. Check current project documentation before using these instructions with a newer Cacti version.

What should you know about the Hello World example?

The associated workshop example package describes a Hello World example that starts an API server and uses the Cacti IPFS object-store plugin. Its package listing warns that the sample code is not production-ready or secure. Treat it as educational material, not software to deploy as-is: workshop example package listing.

Is there a newer Cacti workshop?

A separate workshop recorded on November 12, 2025, is described by The Linux Foundation as covering Cacti’s then-current state, creating plugins and connectors, integrated architecture, and the Secure Asset Transfer Protocol (SATP). It can be a more recent learning path for readers interested in those subjects, but its description does not show what the 2022 course demonstrated or establish Cacti’s current implementation status. See The Linux Foundation’s Cacti workshop listing.
