Open Diagnostics and then Phone diagnostics; on supported Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later, you can also start from Settings. These checks are a useful first step, but a result alone does not identify every physical cause of a charging problem.
Run the charging checks in Samsung Members
- Open Samsung Members. If it is not installed, download it from the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store.
- Tap Diagnostics on the Discover tab, or open the app’s Support tab, then choose Phone diagnostics.
- Select Cable charging, Wireless charging, or Battery status, depending on the issue. You can run an individual test or choose Test all.
- Follow the on-screen prompts. Some tests require you to interact with the phone or connected charging equipment.
Samsung says menu names, layouts, and available tests can vary by Galaxy model and software version. Its current US support guide lists these charging-related checks but does not give a universal total number of available tests. Samsung Support’s diagnostics instructions

Use Settings instead if your Galaxy supports it
On Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later, open Settings > Device care > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics. This built-in route avoids opening Samsung Members, though availability and labels can still vary by model and software version. Samsung Members diagnostics are documented for Galaxy phones and tablets; the Device care route is the alternative Samsung specifies for supported Galaxy devices. Samsung Support

Running only the relevant test is reasonable; Samsung also provides Test all if you want to check the available diagnostics more broadly. The app’s results should be treated as a troubleshooting signal, not proof that a particular component is faulty.

Understand the battery status result
Samsung’s battery guide uses three status labels, not a precise remaining-capacity percentage:
- Normal: Samsung indicates no battery issue.
- Weak: Battery efficiency may have decreased through use or environmental conditions.
- Bad: Samsung advises visiting a local Samsung Support Centre for advice.

If a test fails—or charging still seems wrong
A failed test may show suggestions or a related FAQ. Read those prompts, then consider other causes Samsung identifies: the cable, power adapter, wireless charger, charging port, moisture detection, device temperature, or battery. A positive diagnostic result also does not rule out an intermittent problem that did not occur during the check.
- If the cable test raises a concern, compare with a known-good cable compatible with your Galaxy model; this can help distinguish a cable issue from a phone issue, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
- If wireless charging is the symptom, check with the wireless charger involved rather than relying on the cable test alone.
- If the battery result is Bad, follow Samsung’s advice to seek a local support-centre opinion.
