The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI PH18-73 can deliver unusually high-end gaming performance for a laptop, but the available reviews do not establish that it matches a gaming desktop. The exact configuration matters: PC Gamer’s reviewed unit paired an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX with a 175 W laptop RTX 5090, 192 GB of memory and a dual-mode 18-inch display. Its strengths are power and a large screen; its costs are size, price and limited unplugged gaming time.
Which Predator Helios 18 AI configuration is this review about?
PH18-73 identifies a family, not one fixed specification. Components and pricing vary by part number and region, so figures from one unit should not be treated as universal Helios 18 AI specifications.

PC Gamer’s reviewed PH18-73
PC Gamer’s 2025 review unit used an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, an RTX 5090 laptop GPU configured at 175 W, 192 GB of DDR5-6400 memory and a 2 TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD. The listed screen supports 3840 × 2400 at 120 Hz or FHD at 240 Hz. These are specifications of that reviewed configuration, not every PH18-73. PC Gamer’s review
Acer’s U.S. store listing
Acer’s U.S. store page for PH18-73-99A8 listed the same processor and an RTX 5090 with 24 GB of dedicated memory, alongside 192 GB of RAM, a 6 TB SSD and an 18-inch 3840 × 2400 120 Hz IPS display. At the time reported, the listing showed $6,999.99 and was out of stock. That listing is a different configuration from PC Gamer’s 2 TB review unit. Acer’s PH18-73-99A8 store listing

Acer’s separate PH18-73-96CE specification page lists up to 192 GB of system memory and a 4 TB SSD for that SKU. Do not combine those details with the 99A8 listing or the PC Gamer review unit. Acer’s PH18-73-96CE specifications
Is its gaming performance really desktop-class?
“Desktop-class” is best read as shorthand for unusually powerful laptop gaming hardware, not proof of desktop equivalence. PC Gamer’s reviewed RTX 5090 is a laptop GPU configured at 175 W; it is not the same component as a desktop RTX 5090. The available evidence does not include a controlled, matched comparison against a gaming desktop, so it cannot support a claim that this laptop equals one.

Results also depend on the laptop’s power and cooling limits, the game, resolution, graphics settings and chosen power mode. DLSS and frame generation can affect displayed frame rates; generated frames should not be treated as equivalent to frames rendered natively. A meaningful desktop comparison would need the same games, settings and resolution, with test systems and power conditions identified.

PC Gamer described the 18-inch dual-mode 4K Mini LED panel on its tested unit as a standout for SDR, praising its vibrant colors and deep blacks. Its review also noted a caveat in HDR: local-dimming haze could appear in scenes that combine bright highlights and dark backgrounds. The review further criticized the need to reboot when switching between display modes. How portable is it, and how long does it last on battery?
TechRadar characterizes the laptop as large and expensive. Its reviewed configuration had a 99 Wh battery, and it lasted just under 90 minutes in TechRadar’s PCMark10 gaming battery test. That is a result from a specific test, not a prediction of typical runtime across games or everyday use. It points to a laptop better suited to moving between desks than to extended gaming away from an outlet. TechRadar’s review and battery test

Price depends heavily on the exact configuration and market. TechRadar reported a U.S. starting price of $2,999.99 in its 2025 review context; Acer’s U.S. store page for the higher-spec PH18-73-99A8 showed $6,999.99 and out-of-stock status at the time reported. For value, compare a specific Helios configuration with alternatives using like-for-like evidence. Focus on the GPU and its power configuration, measured game performance at the same resolution and settings, display characteristics, memory and storage, and current price and availability. If portability matters, also compare dimensions and battery results using the same test method; a large 18-inch system and a smaller gaming laptop serve different needs.

The Predator Helios 18 AI PH18-73 is a powerful, large-format gaming laptop, and the reviewed Core Ultra 9 275HX/175 W RTX 5090 configuration makes a strong case for high-end laptop performance. Its screen has notable SDR strengths alongside HDR and mode-switching caveats, while its size and short gaming battery test result limit its appeal as a travel-first machine. Consider it for desk-based gaming if the exact configuration and current price make sense; do not buy it on the assumption that desktop equivalence has been demonstrated.
