Juicer pulp can go into sweet bakes, savory dishes, or the compost bin. Match it to its flavor: use fruit and mild vegetable pulp in muffins, pancakes, yogurt, or oatmeal; put savory vegetable pulp in soups, sauces, dips, or patties. If you are not ready to use it, freeze it for later.

Choose a use that suits the pulp

Pulp Good starting points What to consider
Sweet fruit or mild vegetables Muffins, quick breads, pancakes, yogurt, oatmeal Its flavor works best in a recipe where a little sweetness or mild vegetable flavor makes sense. Food Network and the Sana 606 manual suggest these uses.
Savory vegetables, such as celery, kale, or carrot Soups, stews, broth, sauces, dips, veggie patties, meatballs Season to taste; pulp’s flavor and moisture vary. Food Network and Sana list these kinds of savory uses.
Fruit or vegetable pulp suited to drying Crackers or fruit leather Dehydrating is one option for these recipes, not a requirement for using pulp in general. Food Revolution Network describes these uses.

How to adapt a recipe

Treat pulp as an ingredient, not a standardized substitute for grated produce. Its moisture and flavor depend on the ingredients and the juicer, so start by folding in a little at a time, then adjust the liquid and seasoning. Do not assume a cup of pulp can replace a cup of grated carrot or another vegetable; the Food Revolution Network guide cautions against a direct one-for-one swap.

For baking and breakfast

Fold fruit or mild vegetable pulp into muffin, quick-bread, or pancake batter. For a simpler option, stir fruit pulp into yogurt or oatmeal. Add gradually and check the mixture’s consistency before adding more.

For savory meals

Stir savory vegetable pulp into soup, stew, broth, or sauce, or mix it into dips, veggie patties, and meatballs. Taste as you go so the pulp’s flavor complements the dish rather than overwhelming it.

For crackers or fruit leather

If you want a dried snack, use a recipe designed for pulp crackers or fruit leather. A food dehydrator is useful for that approach, but you do not need one for the other uses in this guide.

Freeze pulp or compost it

Freeze it for later

If you cannot use the pulp right away, freeze it in portions suited to a future recipe. The Sana 606 manual says pulp can be frozen. For fruit pulp from steam juicing, an Ask Extension response recommends freezing sauces or butters for long-term storage. Neither source establishes one storage duration that applies to all fresh juicer pulp, so do not treat a single timeframe as universal.

Compost what you will not cook with

Pulp that does not fit a recipe can go in the compost rather than the trash. Food Network and Food Revolution Network suggest adding it to the green layer of an outdoor compost pile and covering it with brown plant matter.

Can you can leftover juicer pulp?

Only use a tested, approved canning recipe that specifically covers the fruit pulp you have. Do not infer a safe canning process from general fruit-purée directions or improvise processing times. An Ask Extension answer dated October 4, 2024 says canning is appropriate when an approved, tested recipe exists for the pulp in question; it also notes that the National Center for Home Food Preservation does not recommend home canning some fruits. If you cannot find a suitable tested recipe, choose another use or freeze it instead.
