Open Campaign Mission Select, Chapters, or the available Replay option, replay the mission from a checkpoint or its beginning, and return to the same keypad, toolbox, dial, or safe. Enter the complete sequence, preserve any leading zeroes, confirm it if prompted, and remain at the interaction until the opening animation finishes.
If you mean the red container in mission 3, Following Orders, the three-digit code is 214. The kitchen recipe note points to the sequence; the salt quantity is not an extra digit.

Fast recovery: replay the mission, then reopen the exact lock
A missed code is recoverable through the campaign menu. Use the option your edition displays—Campaign Mission Select, Chapters, or Replay—and select the mission where you left the area. Start at an earlier checkpoint when it places you before the lock; otherwise restart the mission. Once back at the location, interact with the lock itself rather than nearby scenery.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the campaign’s mission-selection or chapter menu.
- Select the mission containing the missed code or collectible.
- Choose an earlier checkpoint or the mission start. If the available checkpoint is after the lock, restart the mission.
- Return to the original object. Several missions contain more than one lock, so do not apply a code to a different safe or toolbox.
- Aim at the keypad, dial, toolbox, or safe panel until the interaction prompt appears.
- Enter every digit from left to right. A four-digit code such as
0024must be entered as0024, not24. - Press the confirmation control if the interface asks for one.
- Keep the interaction active until the latch, hatch, or door visibly opens, then collect the contents and any note inside.
Walking away immediately after the final digit can make it look as though the code failed. The visible opening animation is the reliable indication that the game accepted the input.

The likely situation: the red safe in Following Orders
Mission and location
Following Orders is mission 3. Its red toolbox or red safe is in the first house, in the bedroom area. The intended code is 214, and the lock has three positions.
How the clue works
The clue is the Baekseolgi-Tteok recipe note in the first kitchen. The recipe includes a salt quantity, but that quantity is not a fourth number for the lock. Enter only 214. Adding another digit will not match a three-position lock.
What is inside
The code-214 container holds the “Note from your friend” collectible. If you left before opening it, replaying Following Orders is the documented way to recover the note. The mission contains four notes and four contraband items, so a missed container can matter to a completion run even when it is not needed to finish the story.

Checkpoint replay or a full mission restart?
Both approaches return you to the mission; choose based on where the available replay point places you. The published guidance confirms that Following Orders can be replayed from Mission Select, Chapters, or Replay, but the exact checkpoint list and counter behavior can vary by version.
| Recovery approach | When it reaches the object | Dialogue you may need to repeat | Mission-counter behavior | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Earlier checkpoint | Works when the checkpoint is before the lock and leaves the route to it available. | Repeat only choices made after that checkpoint. | Not stated in the published guides; verify the in-game tracker after completing the replay. | Fastest option for a nearby optional lock or note. |
| Mission restart | Provides the complete route from the beginning and avoids a checkpoint that starts after the missed area. | Redo every conversation and branch that leads to the object. | Not stated in the published guides; check the tracker when the mission ends. | Use when no suitable checkpoint exists, the object is required for progression, or a dialogue branch controls access. |
A checkpoint does not change the code. It only changes how much of the route you must replay. If you cannot find the object from the checkpoint, restart rather than searching unrelated rooms.
Why a valid code may appear not to work
You are at the wrong lock
Codes belong to specific objects, not to an entire mission. A mission can contain multiple safes, keypads, or toolboxes. Confirm the mission name, room, and object before trying another sequence. The 214 code opens the red container in Following Orders; it is not a universal campaign code.

A leading zero was dropped
Four-digit locks treat zero as a position. Enter 0008, 0024, 0078, or 0600 exactly as shown. Typing 8, 24, 78, or 600 produces a different input.

Some interfaces accept the digits only after a separate confirm action. Press the displayed confirm control, keep your aim on the panel, and wait for the latch or door animation. Do not leave as soon as the last number appears.
You aimed beside the interaction point
Move the reticle over the keypad, dial, toolbox lid, or safe panel until the game highlights the object. A prompt aimed at a wall, handle, or nearby scenery will not submit the code to the lock.

- Includes PS5 version of game
The route requires a conversation choice
Collectibles can have conditions beyond the number. The “Note From Mom” collectible in Following Orders is the clearest example: its availability depends on what you say to the woman in the hidden chamber.
Recovering the four Following Orders notes
If your goal is a complete note set, replay the level and check each location rather than only the red container.
- Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe: in the first kitchen. This is the clue for the red container’s three-digit code.
- Note from your friend: inside the code-214 container in the first house’s bedroom area.
- A Note from your Neighbor: in the bedroom closet of the next house.
- Note From Mom: in the hidden chamber beneath the kitchen floor.
The route-dependent Note From Mom collectible
After taking the key from the bedroom cabinet, unlock the chamber beneath the kitchen floor and speak with the woman. Select “Please come outside with me”, then select “No, we’re going outside.” Once she leaves, drop into the chamber and read the note. If she remains hidden, the note cannot be collected during that run, so replay the mission and repeat the required dialogue sequence.

If the missed object is not the Following Orders container, use the code associated with the correct mission and object below. The list is a lookup aid, not a replacement for identifying the lock’s location.
| Mission | Code or codes | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Following Orders | 214 |
Three-digit red toolbox or safe in the first house/bedroom area. |
| Assassins | 5523, 7632, 9103 |
Use the sequence for the specific lock; these are four-digit inputs. |
| Stranded | 0024, 8609, 0078, 0600, 1234, 6789, 0330, 0008 |
Enter all four positions, including zeroes. |
| Escape | 8410 |
Listed for the Escape safe; enter all four digits. |
The Small Island discrepancy in Stranded
Published code lists disagree for the Small Island lock: the October 2026 roundup records 6789, while some early-access guides record 6788. If that is the object you missed, confirm that you are at Small Island, check the game’s current patch, and try the sequence associated with your version rather than assuming the two lists describe different locks.
When a missed code is tied to progression or a collectible
Required locks
If the lock blocks the next objective, replay from a checkpoint before the interaction or restart the mission. Verify that the objective updates only after the opening animation; entering digits without seeing the latch release does not establish that the game registered the action.

Optional locks and notes
An optional container can be left behind without preventing mission completion. To add its contents to your collection, replay the mission and return to the object. For Following Orders, missing one note means replaying the level. The broader campaign totals provide context for collectors: Stranded has 58 notes, with 50 required for the Noteworthy achievement, while Escape has two notes.
Keeping a clean replay
- Write down the mission and room before leaving the original run.
- Record the exact number of digits the lock accepts.
- For four-digit locks, preserve every zero at the beginning or in the middle.
- After opening the object, read the note or collect the item before moving on.
- If a dialogue-dependent collectible is still absent, restart and repeat the specified conversation choices instead of trying the code again.
A practical decision tree
- Did you leave the area before opening the lock? Open Mission Select, Chapters, or Replay and load the same mission.
- Is there a checkpoint before the lock? Use it. If every checkpoint begins after the object, restart the mission.
- Are you sure it is the same object? Match the room and container; mission codes are not interchangeable.
- Does the lock use three or four positions? Enter exactly that many digits. The Following Orders code is three digits; the listed Assassins, Stranded, and Escape codes are four.
- Does the code contain zero? Keep each zero, including leading zeroes.
- Did the lock visibly open? If not, confirm the input, adjust your aim to the panel, and retry from the correct interaction prompt.
- Is the item a dialogue-dependent note? Follow the required conversation branch; for Note From Mom, the woman must leave before you enter the chamber and read it.
These steps restore access without altering the campaign permanently. The essential fix is to replay the correct mission, identify the exact lock, enter the complete object-specific sequence, and wait for the game to show that it opened.
