Test one thing at a time; a charging problem alone does not identify which part has failed.
1. Check the outlet and connection
Plug the charger into a wall outlet you know works. Seat both ends of the cable firmly and check whether the tablet-end connector fits securely. If it feels loose or will not seat properly, do not force it.

If you are charging an iPad from a computer, Apple says the computer must be on and not asleep. Its guidance also lists a powered USB hub or supported accessory as alternatives. See Apple’s iPad charging guidance.
2. Test the cable and adapter
Look for cracks, fraying, or exposed wires on the cable and visible damage to the adapter. Stop using a damaged cable. If available, test with a known-good compatible tablet charging cable and compatible tablet power adapter. Apple and Samsung both recommend trying another cable or adapter when charging fails.

Use accessories compatible with your exact tablet model and connector. There is no single charger wattage or connector that applies to every tablet; check the manufacturer’s guidance for your device rather than assuming any charger will work.
3. Check temperature, debris, and moisture
Temperature
Move the tablet to a place within its acceptable operating temperature range and let it return to a suitable temperature before trying again. Apple’s cited iPad guidance says to keep the device within its acceptable operating temperatures but does not give a numeric range on that page.

Port debris
With the tablet disconnected from power, inspect the charging port with a light. Samsung advises Galaxy Tab owners to turn the device off and gently blow away loose dust. Do not insert sharp or metal objects. If the port is completely blocked, seek service rather than trying to dig debris out.

Moisture
If the tablet or charger shows a moisture warning, or the port may be wet, disconnect it and do not keep trying to charge. Samsung warns that charging with moisture in the USB port or charger can damage internal circuitry. Follow your device maker’s directions: Samsung advises wiping the tablet with a soft, clean cloth or letting it dry in a well-ventilated area. If the warning remains after the device is completely dry, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider.
4. Restart the tablet and try supported diagnostics
If the outlet and accessories check out and there is no moisture or temperature issue, restart the tablet using the instructions for its exact model. Button sequences differ: Apple provides separate force-restart steps for iPads with and without a Home button, and Samsung says Galaxy Tab key combinations can vary by model. Use the relevant Apple iPad instructions or Samsung Galaxy Tab instructions instead of trying a generic button combination.

Contact the tablet’s manufacturer or an authorized repair channel if the port appears damaged, remains blocked, or feels loose; if a moisture warning persists after complete drying; or if the tablet still will not charge after you have tested a working outlet, compatible known-good accessories, and the model-appropriate restart. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab guidance and Samsung US troubleshooting page direct users to service when the preceding steps do not resolve the issue.

A technician can inspect the device and determine whether the problem is with the port, battery, or another component; the symptoms alone cannot establish which part needs repair. Check local service availability, repair scope, and warranty terms with the manufacturer before arranging a repair.
