First, identify the set number or name from the box or building instructions, then use LEGO’s official Replacement Parts service. Choose Missing Pieces when an element is absent or Broken Pieces when it arrived damaged. If the part cannot be found in the online form, contact LEGO customer service with the set and element details.
Start by identifying the exact set
Do not begin by searching for a generic “LEGO brick.” The set number or set name is the key identifier LEGO uses to show the parts that belong to your model. LEGO says the set name or number is printed on the box or in the building instructions.

- Keep the box, instruction booklet, numbered bags and the suspect piece together.
- Write down the set number before opening the replacement form.
- If the paper instructions are missing or damaged, use LEGO’s downloadable building-instructions service; LEGO says instructions are available for thousands of old and new sets.
Keeping the packaging nearby also helps you distinguish a genuine omission from a part that slipped into another bag or remained in the box.
Check whether the piece is really missing
A short search can prevent an unnecessary replacement request. LEGO’s official pages do not publish a percentage showing how often pieces are merely misplaced, so treat these checks as practical troubleshooting rather than a statistical rule.

- Look at the current instruction step and the step immediately before it. A small element may have been installed one step early or attached to the wrong subassembly.
- Open every numbered bag that applies to the current stage. Check the folded corners and the inside seams.
- Inspect the bottom and corners of the box. Small pins, tiles and clips can remain under cardboard folds.
- Search the floor, table, build tray and nearby clothing. Use a light at a low angle to make small parts easier to see.
- Compare the model with the parts illustration in the instructions. Confirm that the issue is an absent element, not a wrong color, orientation or connection point.
If the part is still absent after those checks, stop the build at a stable point and record the exact step number. That note will make the request easier to explain if customer service asks for more detail.
Choose the correct LEGO replacement route

LEGO’s Missing Pieces page describes the process as a few steps, but the available elements and support rules can vary by country. Use the route that matches the problem rather than selecting a random part that looks similar.
How to report a missing piece
- Open LEGO’s official Replacement Parts area and select Missing Pieces.
- Search for the set by its name or number. Check the result carefully if several sets have similar names.
- Use the parts list or the instruction artwork to identify the element. Match its shape and color, not just its general category.
- Enter the quantity that is absent. Request each missing element separately if the form presents them as separate choices.
- Review the set information and shipping details, then submit the request.
- Save the confirmation or reference information until the pieces arrive and you have checked the build.
If parts from more than one set are missing, LEGO states that you must submit separate requests for each set. Combining sets in one submission can make identification and fulfillment harder.

Use the Broken Pieces route when the element was supplied but is cracked, split, bent, badly molded or otherwise unusable. LEGO’s customer-service page says replacement pieces for broken bricks can be requested free of charge.

- Keep the damaged element rather than discarding it. Its shape, color and markings can help LEGO identify the correct replacement.
- Note the set number and the instruction step where the damage appeared.
- Open the Replacement Parts service and choose Broken Pieces.
- Select the closest exact element in the set list and enter the quantity.
- Describe what is wrong in plain language, including whether the piece was damaged when the bag was opened or became damaged during assembly.
- Submit the request and retain the confirmation.
A damaged part should not be forced into a connection. Gluing it or trimming it can change the element and make an official replacement harder to identify. If you need to keep building, use a temporary, reversible stand-in only where it will not stress surrounding pieces, and replace it before treating the model as finished.
When the part does not appear in the selector
Older sets, unusual colors and specialized elements may not be immediately obvious in the online list. Do not guess based on a similar-looking brick. Contact LEGO customer service through its support route and provide:
- the complete set number or set name;
- the element description, and the element number if it is printed in the instructions or parts inventory;
- the quantity needed;
- a clear explanation of whether the element is missing or damaged;
- the instruction step or inventory location where you identified it.
If the support form permits attachments, a clear photo of the damaged element and the relevant instruction page can clarify the request, but the essential information is the set identifier and an accurate element description. Do not assume customer service can supply every retired color or specialized part; ask what is available for your country and set.

- confirm the exact step where the part first appears;
- compare the model with the printed parts illustrations;
- check whether a seemingly unused element is an intentional spare;
- locate the element number or inventory reference needed by support.
Download the version that matches your set when more than one instruction file is offered. A model name alone may cover multiple editions, so verify the set number printed on your box or packaging.
How long will a replacement take?
Shipping time, customs handling and support procedures depend on the destination country. LEGO Store Turkey states that replacement parts are dispatched from LEGO’s Denmark warehouse and that the total process there generally takes 10–25 business days after customs. That is a Turkey-specific example, not a worldwide delivery promise.
Because the timing is country-dependent, avoid planning a deadline around an assumed delivery date. Check the confirmation message and local support information, and contact customer service if the stated window has passed or the request appears incomplete. Keep your request reference available when you ask for an update.
Should you buy a replacement instead?
For a newly purchased set, the official LEGO route should normally be your first choice because the service can match the element to the set and, for broken bricks, LEGO says the replacement can be requested free of charge. Buying immediately can leave you with the wrong color, shape or connection type.

LEGO’s replacement hub also links to Bricks and Pieces for buying individual elements. This can be useful when you need an extra part or when the official support route cannot supply an element. A marketplace search for replacement LEGO pieces is another fallback for retired or unavailable parts, but treat it as a parts-identification task, not a generic shopping search.
Checks before purchasing from a marketplace
- Match the exact element number when one is available.
- Confirm the color under the same lighting and against the instruction artwork.
- Compare dimensions, connection points and the number of studs or clips.
- Read the seller’s condition description and return policy.
- Check seller reputation and shipping destination before paying.
- Ask whether the item is an original LEGO element or a compatible third-party substitute.
A marketplace purchase may involve a price and shipping charge even when an official replacement would have been supplied without a charge. For a retired set, however, availability can outweigh speed or cost, so compare the exact match, total delivered price and expected delivery date before choosing.

Choosing “missing” for a damaged part
An absent element and a defective element follow different request paths. Select Missing Pieces only when the part is not present; select Broken Pieces when it arrived damaged.

Guessing the element from memory
Many LEGO elements have near-identical shapes with different lengths, colors or connection types. Use the instruction step and parts illustration instead of a visual guess.
Throwing away the packaging
The box and bags contain the set identifier and can help you recheck unopened contents. Keep them until the model is complete and the replacement request is resolved.
Assuming delivery times are universal
Customs and local fulfillment can change the schedule. The 10–25-business-day figure published for Turkey should not be applied to another country without confirmation.

A practical checklist before you submit
- Set name or number copied exactly from the box or instructions.
- Current and previous instruction steps rechecked.
- Numbered bags, box corners, floor and build surface searched.
- Element shape and color compared with the parts illustration.
- Correct route selected: Missing Pieces or Broken Pieces.
- Quantity entered accurately.
- Separate request prepared for each set involved.
- Element description or number and damage explanation ready for customer service if needed.
- Confirmation or reference saved after submission.
What to do if the replacement still does not solve the problem
If the delivered element does not match, first compare it with the instruction image and the original piece. Check color, orientation and connection points before reporting an error. If it is the wrong element or the request remains unresolved, contact LEGO customer service again with the original reference, the set number and a concise description of what arrived.
For a retired set or an element that LEGO cannot provide, decide whether an exact marketplace part is worth the cost and wait. Keep the model’s temporary substitute reversible so it can be exchanged later without damaging neighboring pieces.
