If a cryptocurrency transfer is pending or missing, first find out whether the sender’s service has broadcast it to the blockchain. Get the transaction hash, check it on an explorer for the network actually used, and compare the on-chain status with the receiving service’s deposit requirements. A withdrawal still processing inside an exchange needs a different response from a confirmed transfer that has not been credited.
First identify where the transfer is delayed
A transfer can be delayed at three distinct points: inside the sending platform, on the blockchain, or in the receiving platform’s crediting process. The status in one place does not tell you the status in the others. For example, Kraken’s Classic interface distinguishes Initiated and Pending from Sending, which indicates a broadcast withdrawal awaiting a blockchain confirmation; its Success status means the withdrawal has one network confirmation. These are Kraken labels, not universal exchange statuses. Kraken’s withdrawal status guide explains its terms.

Start with the sender’s withdrawal history. Look for a transaction hash (also called a transaction ID or TXID). If there is no hash, the transfer may not have been broadcast. Ask the sender or sending service whether it is still processing internally, under review, failed, or broadcast without the hash appearing in the history. Coinbase Exchange notes that incoming transactions can remain pending while its required confirmations accumulate, and that a temporary synchronization issue can also delay its display. Coinbase Exchange’s pending-transaction guidance describes these cases.

- Check the sender’s withdrawal record. Confirm the asset, amount, destination address, network, and exact status. If there is no hash, contact the sender through its official support channel and ask whether the withdrawal was broadcast and what stage it has reached.
- Look up the hash on the correct network’s explorer. Use an explorer for the network specified by the sending service, not merely one associated with the token’s name. Check whether the transaction is pending, confirmed, or failed; note its confirmation count, destination address, and amount. Coinbase and OKX both recommend checking the blockchain for a missing deposit. Coinbase’s transaction guidance and OKX’s missing-deposit guidance explain their troubleshooting approach.
- If the transaction is unconfirmed, contact the sender or wallet provider. A pending transaction may be waiting for confirmations, or a service may not yet be synchronized with the network. Timing varies by network and service, so there is no reliable universal wait time. Do not send a second transfer just because the recipient’s balance has not changed. Coinbase Exchange says some transactions may be rejected and remain unconfirmed; follow the sending service’s instructions before attempting any rebroadcast or replacement.
- If the transaction is confirmed, check the recipient’s deposit instructions. Verify that the asset and network are supported and that the address matches. Check whether a memo or destination tag was required, and whether the recipient requires additional confirmations or processing before crediting. A blockchain confirmation does not itself prove that an exchange has completed its deposit checks.
- Contact the receiving platform if the confirmed transfer is not credited. Use its official app or website and provide the hash plus the asset, amount, network, destination address, and any relevant memo or tag. OKX identifies delayed confirmations, an incorrect network or address, and a missing memo as possible causes. Coinbase warns that unsupported assets or networks may be lost and directs users to support about possible recovery options.
- If a network, address, or memo was wrong, stop sending funds. Ask the receiving service promptly whether it can review the transfer or offer a recovery option; do not assume it can. Crypto.com, for example, describes an in-app deposit review process that may request the hash, block number, token, network, deposit address, and amount. That workflow is specific to Crypto.com, not a universal remedy. Crypto.com’s missing-deposit instructions list its process.
How to read the status at each stage
| Where you check | What to look for | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Sending platform | Withdrawal status and transaction hash | A hash lets you trace a broadcast transaction. Without one, ask whether the withdrawal is still being processed, held, or failed; platform labels differ. |
| Blockchain explorer | Transaction status, confirmations, destination, and amount | This shows whether the transaction has progressed on the network. Check an explorer for the network used. |
| Receiving platform | Deposit status and network, asset, address, and memo/tag requirements | A confirmed transfer may still need more confirmations or the recipient’s own crediting checks. |
These records answer different questions. A sender can mark a withdrawal successful while the recipient is still waiting for its deposit threshold, and a chain confirmation does not establish that the recipient has credited the account. Coinbase Exchange’s pending-to-completed guidance and Kraken’s withdrawal status definitions illustrate the distinction between platform and blockchain status. Coinbase Exchange and Kraken.

Can you cancel or recover the transfer?
Cancellation depends on the sending service and the transaction’s stage. Kraken says a cancellation request for a Pending withdrawal is not guaranteed. Once cryptocurrency has been confirmed to an address, an intermediary generally cannot reverse it. The FTC notes that crypto transfers are typically not reversible; whether anything can be recovered may depend on who controls the destination and what the receiving platform can do. Neither a support request nor a recovery review guarantees that funds will be returned. FTC guidance on cryptocurrency and scams.
