If Yandex Disk is not syncing, first identify whether the problem is with the Windows desktop sync folder, a phone upload, a download, or what you see in a browser. For desktop uploads, check the internet connection, available Disk storage, sync settings and folder access, then the file and any connection-blocking software. Avoid deleting or reinstalling the sync folder as an early fix: desktop sync is bidirectional, so local changes and deletions can affect cloud files too.
First, identify what is not syncing
Yandex Disk handles the desktop sync folder differently from phone uploads and downloads. A missing file in a browser can also be a display or download problem rather than a desktop sync failure.

Fix a Windows desktop upload in order
Work through these checks before changing or removing the sync folder. Yandex’s sync troubleshooting page lists connection, storage, folder, and file-access problems among the reasons uploads can fail.
- Confirm internet access. Open a website or otherwise check that the computer is online. If the app stays at “Syncing,” try shortening a very long file name. Also check whether antivirus software or a firewall is blocking Yandex Disk’s network access.
- Check available Yandex Disk storage. If the account has no space left, uploads cannot complete. Deleted files in Trash still use storage, so emptying Trash can reclaim space if you no longer need those items.
- Check that syncing and the right folder are enabled. Confirm synchronization is on and that the intended folder is selected in the desktop app’s settings. Yandex lists disabled syncing, no selected folder, an unavailable folder, or a folder already used by another Disk account as possible causes. Verify that the folder exists and is accessible; if it is not, select an available folder in settings.
- Check the file’s size and access. Yandex Help states a per-file upload limit of 1 GB for the free plan and 50 GB for Yandex 360 Premium; its error guidance says files over 1 GB require an active Premium plan and files over 50 GB cannot be uploaded. These are plan-specific limits, not a guarantee that every upload below the limit will succeed: check the account’s current plan and the app’s error message. A file can also fail if another program is using it, your account cannot access it, or its name contains invalid non-Unicode characters.
- Resolve a “Connection error.” Check that the internet connection is stable, then investigate whether antivirus software, a firewall, or a proxy is interfering. Yandex’s guidance says ports 443 and 5222 must be open. If you change a security setting, make only the narrow exception for Yandex Disk that is needed; do not leave protections disabled.
- Investigate slow syncing. Yandex says sync speed is designed to conserve bandwidth and system resources, and an internet provider may also limit speed. Check your connection speed and whether other apps are using the connection. If the connection itself is unstable and the computer supports it, a wired connection can be a diagnostic comparison—not a general fix for account, file, or folder settings.
- Contact Yandex if the file remains stuck. If the app indicates syncing but the file still does not appear on another computer or in the web interface after these checks, report the problem through Yandex’s desktop support guidance. Include the desktop program logs when contacting support.
Understand what mobile “sync” means
On a phone, ordinary uploads and downloads are manual rather than the continuous desktop-folder mirroring described above. Photo and video auto-upload is a separate option. If you edit a file that you downloaded to your phone, the edit may remain on the phone: when mobile sync is not enabled, Yandex says you must download and upload files manually.

The Offline section is for selected files stored locally on the phone. Those copies update after the device reconnects. Removing a file from Offline clears its local copy, not the cloud original. For a failed download, check whether the owner has disabled downloads, whether a temporary public-file download restriction applies, or whether the connection is slow; these are download issues, not evidence that desktop sync has failed.
Protect files before changing sync settings
Desktop sync is bidirectional: edits, copies, and deletions in the synced folder are reflected on the server, and files uploaded on the website appear in the desktop program. Deleting a file from the desktop sync folder also removes it from the cloud. Yandex says deleted items remain in Trash for 30 days before automatic deletion, and items in Trash continue to count against storage.

Before making substantial changes to the sync folder, keep a separate copy of important files. If the same file is changed on disconnected devices, Yandex may rename one arriving version with “(2).” Working on the same files across several devices at once can also lead to conflicts, duplicates, or lost files. Avoid deleting or reinstalling the folder as an initial troubleshooting step.

Use Yandex’s desktop support instructions for a persistent desktop issue, and attach the program logs. Describe which file is affected and whether the app reports an error or remains at “Syncing.”
