In clock-face terms, they are 12:00, 4:30, and 9:00. The order is irrelevant. If the door stays sealed, the usual cause is that one position was missed or a similar-looking icon was selected after the environmental clues were read from the wrong angle.
The most difficult clue is not on a single wall. It is divided across three wooden walkway levels and only forms a complete symbol when viewed from the highest platform. Use the guide below to reset the puzzle, identify every clue, and leave the area without accidentally abandoning the nearby Merchant mission.

The exact three positions
Stand at the stone dais beside the sealed cliff door and select these locations:

There is no sequence to memorize. The mechanism checks whether those three positions are selected, not the order in which you press them. Trying every possible sequence therefore cannot solve a wrong selection.

Reset your view before interacting with the dais
Perspective is the main source of confusion in this puzzle. The markings are painted on rough cliff surfaces and timber walkways, while several dais icons share similar outlines. Before making another attempt:
- Face the stone dais squarely instead of approaching it from the side.
- Use the position of each symbol on the dais, not the direction in which a painted mark appears on a nearby wall.
- Look for a complete shape. A fragment that resembles one of the dais icons may be only part of a larger drawing.
- If you are reconstructing the walkway clue, climb to the highest available platform and look down from the correct end.
This short reset prevents a common mistake: matching one visible fragment to an icon before checking how the entire environmental drawing fits together.
How to open the Cliffside Door
- Face the stone dais next to the sealed cliff door.
- Select the upper-center position identified in the table.
- Select the lower-right position.
- Select the position on the left.
- Wait for the mechanism to recognize the completed set. Because order does not matter, you can perform these interactions in any sequence.
If the door does not react after all three selections, do not keep cycling through random combinations. Return to the clues and verify the positions themselves.
Where the three environmental clues are located
Clue one: the wall beside the altar
When you face the dais, inspect the wall immediately to the right of the altar and door. This is the easiest marking to miss if you focus only on the stone mechanism. Treat it as a complete reference drawing and compare its overall silhouette with the available dais icons.

Clue two: the elevated rock outcropping
The second marking is farther out from the altar, on a rock outcropping opposite it. It is above or near the grapple point. Move your camera and position until the painted shape is visible; the surrounding cliff texture can make it blend into the rock. This clue is separate from the wall marking, so finding one does not mean the set is complete.
Clue three: the split drawing on the walkways
The third marking is spread over separate sections of the wooden walkways. From a lower level, the pieces appear unrelated or incomplete. Reach the highest platform and look down from the correct end so the sections line up. Only then should you compare the reconstructed symbol with the dais.
Changing elevation is essential here. Walking closer at the same height does not correct the alignment, because the clue was designed to be read across multiple levels. If the drawing still looks broken, move to the opposite end of the upper platform and check the alignment again.

You selected only two positions
The dais requires three selections. The left position is especially easy to overlook because players often identify the upper-center and lower-right marks first. Count the selected locations before leaving the mechanism and make sure the left-side position is included.

You chose a similar icon
Several symbols on the stone surface look alike at a glance. Compare the complete outline of each environmental clue rather than one notch, line, or curve. A near match is still wrong, and the door will remain sealed even if the other two selections are correct.
You read the walkway clue from below
The split drawing can look like multiple small symbols when viewed from the lower platforms. Return to the top walkway, look downward, and align the painted sections. The correct interpretation comes from the assembled shape, not any individual piece.
You missed the rock-outcropping clue
Players concentrating on the door can overlook the marking near the distant grapple point. Walk out toward the elevated rock and inspect the surface opposite the altar before making another dais attempt.

Sequence testing wastes time in this room. The three correct positions are interchangeable, so a failed attempt indicates a position or identification problem, not an ordering problem.

A reliable way to reconstruct the split symbol
- Locate the wooden walkway sections carrying painted marks.
- Continue upward until you reach the highest platform available in the area.
- Move to an end that gives you a view along the walkway levels rather than directly across one section.
- Look downward and adjust your position until the separated pieces visually connect.
- Mentally treat the connected outline as one symbol and compare its full shape with the dais choices.
- Return to the dais and select the corresponding position, along with the two positions identified by the other clues.
Do not decide from a partial view. Rough stone, shadows, and the change in camera angle can make a fragment resemble the wrong icon. The elevated viewpoint is what turns the painted sections into usable information.
Quick solution or clue-based exploration?
You can approach this room in two legitimate ways. The choice affects how quickly you leave, not the puzzle’s underlying solution.

Neither approach changes the required set of three positions. Exploration is useful when a quick attempt fails because it exposes whether the problem is a missed clue or an incorrect visual match.
What happens after the door opens
The puzzle appears in Chapter 2 while Ada is traveling toward the church. Beyond the door, the route ends at a grapple point and is treated as a point of no return. Before using that route, complete the nearby Merchant side mission on the cliff if you intend to do it during this visit.

This warning matters even after a successful solve: opening the door is not merely a local interaction. It begins a one-way progression along the route, so finish the optional cliffside task first rather than assuming you can return freely.
A complete recovery checklist
- Confirm that you are at the stone dais beside the sealed cliff door.
- Verify the upper-center, lower-right, and left positions rather than relying on a guessed resemblance.
- Check that three positions, including the left one, have been selected.
- Inspect the wall immediately to the right of the altar when facing the dais.
- Inspect the elevated rock outcropping opposite the altar near the grapple point.
- Reach the highest walkway platform and view the separated painting from above.
- Reconstruct the walkway drawing as one complete symbol before comparing it with the dais.
- Stop trying alternate press orders; order has no effect.
- Complete the nearby Merchant side mission before taking the post-door grapple route.
If the puzzle remains closed
Run through the checklist from the beginning rather than repeating the last interaction. The game provides the clues around the cliff, and the mechanism responds only when the three specified positions are selected. A persistent failure after a careful recheck usually means one of the icons was identified from an incomplete or misaligned view.
Return to the highest walkway, change to the opposite viewing end, and compare the entire assembled mark again. Then revisit the rock outcropping and the wall beside the altar. Once each clue has been interpreted as a complete shape, go back to the dais and select the three positions without regard to order.
