Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your Windows 11 PC is slow or unstable after an update, first restart and check Task Manager, startup apps, and free storage. If the problem persists, use the Windows Update troubleshooter, then choose the recovery option that matches what happened: uninstall a recent update or go back after a major version upgrade. The timing alone does not prove the update caused the problem.
First, identify the problem
Check whether Windows still starts, what changed before the trouble began, and what the symptoms are. A monthly update and an upgrade to a new Windows version have different rollback options. Note any error message and whether the problem is slow startup, general sluggishness, freezes, crashes, or a device that stopped working.

Microsoft’s recovery guidance distinguishes PCs that start but behave unexpectedly from those that cannot start or are stuck restarting. Choose the path for your situation, and back up important files before recovery steps that could affect them. Microsoft recommends backing up files and enabling Windows Backup before proceeding: Recovery options in Windows.

Try low-risk performance checks
These checks can reveal common causes of slow performance; they do not establish that an update caused it. Microsoft lists limited storage, background and startup activity, outdated software, and hardware limitations among possible factors: Tips to improve PC performance in Windows.
#1 Best Overall
- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Restart the PC. A restart can clear temporary issues. Save open work first.
- Check resource use. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. Review Processes and Performance for unusually high CPU, memory, or disk use. If one app is consuming resources, close it only if you recognize it and can safely stop it.
- Review startup apps. In Task Manager, open Startup apps. Disable only apps you recognize and do not need to launch when you sign in.
- Check free storage. Low disk space can affect performance. Use Windows’ built-in storage settings to see what is using space before removing files.
- Check for updates. Install available Windows updates, or relevant optional driver updates if appropriate. If a particular device appears to be the cause, follow the PC or component manufacturer’s official support instructions.
Avoid registry cleaners, generic driver-updater utilities, random driver removal, or disabling security protection as routine speed fixes.
Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
If Windows Update is showing errors or updates are not installing properly, run Microsoft’s troubleshooter from the Get Help app. Follow its prompts, restart the PC, and check for updates again. See Windows Update Troubleshooter for Microsoft’s steps.

Choose the right rollback
Uninstalling a recent update and returning to the previous Windows version are different actions. Use the path that matches what preceded the problem:
| Option | Use it when | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Uninstall a recent update | The problem followed a recent Windows update, such as a quality update. | Some updates cannot be uninstalled. Removing a security update can leave the PC without protections it provides. |
| Go back | The problem began after upgrading to a new Windows version. | Usually available for 10 days after the upgrade. Personal files are kept, but apps, drivers, and settings added or changed since the upgrade are removed. |
Uninstall a recent update
If Windows starts, open Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates. If you cannot get into Windows, enter Windows Recovery Environment and choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates. Follow Microsoft’s instructions at How to uninstall a Windows Update.

Not every update can be removed. Before uninstalling a security update, consider the protection it provides and the risk of leaving it off the PC.
Go back after a version upgrade
Open Settings > System > Recovery and select Go back, if the option is available. Microsoft says this is usually available for 10 days after upgrading; it is a recovery window, not a guarantee that every PC will show the option. Your personal files are kept, while apps, drivers, and settings added or changed after the upgrade are removed. See Go back to the previous version of Windows.

Repair the current Windows version if rollback is not the right choice
On eligible Windows 11 installations, Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update reinstalls the same version of Windows to repair system files and components. It preserves apps, files, and settings. Keep the PC connected to power and the internet during the reinstall. Feature availability can vary by Windows version and device. Microsoft’s instructions are at Fix issues by reinstalling the current version of Windows.
If Windows will not start or the problem continues
Use Microsoft’s recovery guide to choose a recovery option for a PC that cannot start or keeps restarting: Recovery options in Windows. Back up important files first whenever possible; some recovery choices can cause data loss. If reinstalling from recovery media, a manufacturer-provided image typically includes hardware-specific drivers and factory apps that generic media may not include. On a work or school PC, contact your organization’s IT department if recovery options do not resolve the issue.
