If a Totenreich relic portal fails to appear, do not keep repeating the same interaction in the current match. Relics are Cursed Mode modifiers, and availability depends on the active Cursed tier, the map’s main Easter Egg, character or perk requirements, exact action order, round or kill thresholds, and an unbroken run state. Check those conditions against the specific relic. If you reversed a required step, picked up a forbidden perk, or resumed after a crash or save-and-quit, start a fresh Cursed Mode match and run the checklist from the beginning.
Why a Totenreich relic can be missing
Totenreich has six Cursed Mode relics. Their progress belongs to the current run rather than to a permanent account-wide unlock, according to the 2026 iTechGuides overview. That means a portal can be absent even when you have previously completed the same objective in another match.

The common causes fall into four groups:
- The match is not in Cursed Mode, or its Cursed tier is below the relic’s requirement.
- The Totenreich main Easter Egg has not been completed when that relic requires it.
- A relic-specific order, prohibition, character, perk, round, or kill condition was missed.
- A crash or save-and-quit damaged the active run state, leaving a previously available trial unavailable after you return.
There is no published Treyarch support notice establishing one universal repair for every missing portal. Treat community crash reports as evidence of a possible run-state problem, not as a guaranteed explanation for every failure.

Before troubleshooting a particular portal, verify the conditions that can prevent an entire relic category from appearing. Use this order so you do not spend an hour testing a relic in an invalid match.

- Complete the Totenreich main Easter Egg. Some relics require the map’s main Easter Egg to have been completed at least once. The requirement is account or profile history for the map, but the relic attempt itself still takes place in a new Cursed Mode run.
- Select Cursed Mode before starting the match. Relics are Cursed Mode modifiers; a normal-mode match does not satisfy the gate.
- Confirm the Cursed tier. Check the target relic’s minimum tier in its current guide or in-game objective text. The Agarthan Device, for example, requires Cursed Mode Tier 2 or higher on Totenreich.
- Check the character and perk requirements. Requirements can be relic-specific. Agarthan Device requires playing Richtofen and having Melee Macchiato purchased from the perk machine.
If any global requirement is missing, changing rounds, revisiting the portal location, or repeating kills will not fix that match. Correct the requirement and begin a new run.
Relic-specific checks
Agarthan Device
The published Agarthan Device checklist from COD Central (2026) requires all of the following: Cursed Mode Tier 2 or higher active on Totenreich, Richtofen as the playable character, completion of the main Easter Egg at least once, Melee Macchiato purchased from the perk machine, three randomly located quest items, and a six-wave trial.
“Randomly located” means you should use the objective’s current item search rather than assume a fixed pickup location from another run. If the portal does not become available after the six-wave trial, recheck every prerequisite in that list. The available guide does not establish a separate recovery action for a partially completed trial, so an uncertain or interrupted attempt is best replaced with a fresh match.
Wrestler’s Belt
Wrestler’s Belt has an order gate involving the Mr. Peeks magazine and the Jotunn Star. The Mr. Peeks magazine must be obtained before you take the Jotunn Star. If you take the star first, later kills do not count toward the relic and the magazine does not appear again in that match, according to the 2026 guide for the relic.

Once that order has been reversed, stop trying to force the kill counter. Leave the match, create a new Cursed Mode run, collect the magazine first, and only then take the Jotunn Star. Record the order if you are diagnosing a repeat failure; it is more useful than simply noting that the portal was absent.
Dancing Arnie
Dancing Arnie uses a similar one-way sequence. Place the chili chunks in the pot before touching the Jotunn Star. The guide warns that touching the star first locks the relic for the rest of the game, so the portal will not be restored by restarting the interaction or waiting for another round.
In a replacement run, treat the pot step as a hard checkpoint: confirm that the chili chunks have been placed, then interact with the Jotunn Star. Do not assume that completing the pot action later will repair an already-invalid sequence.

Stuffed Elephant
Stuffed Elephant has a prohibition rather than an order requirement: you must not pick up a perk from any source during the attempt. A single perk pickup voids the condition for that match. This includes a pickup made while exploring, traveling between objectives, or responding to another objective; the rule is not limited to the perk machine.

If you picked up a perk, do not spend more time testing the portal. Start a new match and keep a deliberate no-perk route for the entire relic attempt. If several players are present, tell everyone about the restriction so another player does not invalidate the run.
Music Box
Music Box has exact threshold and trigger conditions. The 2026 COD Zombies Guides checklist calls for reaching round 60 or higher, entering Tyr’s Head, and making five headshots in a row. After those conditions are met, the portal should be available in Dry Dock.
Check the sequence in that order: reach the round threshold, enter Tyr’s Head, then perform the five consecutive headshots without breaking the streak. If the streak is interrupted, do not assume that five later headshots will count unless the current objective explicitly resets and confirms the attempt. The guide establishes Dry Dock as the portal area, but it does not provide a universal reset instruction for a failed streak.
Power Switch
Power Switch depends on hitting animal hides in the correct statue order. The confirmation cue is Mister Peeks’ laugh. Because the available instructions do not publish the statue order as a universal sequence, do not substitute an order remembered from another relic or another run.

Use the active objective’s order, hit each hide only when you are certain it is next, and listen for the laugh. If the cue never occurs, treat the sequence as unconfirmed and restart rather than continuing random combinations. A successful hit without the laugh is not the stated completion signal.

Relic progress is tied to the active match. A crash can leave the portal unavailable, and a community report describes a portal disappearing after a crash and remaining absent after save-and-quit. This does not prove that every resumed match is broken, but it makes a resumed run unreliable for diagnosis.
When the portal was present before an interruption, or when the trial disappeared after loading a saved match, use this recovery policy:

- Exit the resumed run instead of spending additional resources on repeated tests.
- Start a completely new Cursed Mode match.
- Repeat the global requirements and the relic sequence from the first step.
- Avoid saving or quitting while an order-sensitive chain, trial, or threshold sequence is active.
A fresh run distinguishes a lost run state from a misunderstood requirement. If the relic works in the fresh match, the earlier failure was limited to that run or its interruption. If it fails again under documented conditions, collect the details for a bug report.
A practical fresh-run procedure
Use this procedure whenever the cause is unclear or a sequence may have been broken.
- Prepare the match. Select Totenreich in Cursed Mode and choose the required tier. Confirm that the map’s main Easter Egg history is complete.
- Choose the required character. For Agarthan Device, select Richtofen before loading in.
- Buy only permitted perks. Purchase Melee Macchiato for Agarthan Device. For Stuffed Elephant, purchase no perk at all.
- Write the sequence down. Put prerequisite items, star interactions, pot actions, statue order, and threshold events in a checklist before beginning.
- Perform irreversible steps carefully. Collect the Wrestler’s Belt magazine before the Jotunn Star, and place Dancing Arnie’s chili chunks before touching that star.
- Verify cues immediately. For Power Switch, wait for Mister Peeks’ laugh. For Music Box, confirm the round, Tyr’s Head entry, five-headshot streak, and Dry Dock availability.
- Finish the trial without interruption. Do not save and quit or intentionally force a restart while the relic chain is active.
This method prevents a common diagnostic mistake: changing several variables at once and then not knowing whether the mode, tier, order, or run state caused the failure.

How to document a reproducible failure
If a fresh run still fails, capture enough information for another player or support team to reproduce it. Record:

- Map, character, current round, and whether the main Easter Egg had been completed previously.
- Every relevant item and perk, including the order in which they were collected.
- The exact trigger sequence, such as the number of waves, consecutive headshots, or statue interactions.
- Whether any player picked up a perk, whether the game crashed, and whether the match was resumed with save-and-quit.
- The portal’s expected area and the last confirmation cue that occurred.
Separate confirmed requirements from observations. For example, “the portal was missing after a crash” is a player report, while “Wrestler’s Belt requires the magazine before the Jotunn Star” is a stated guide condition. This distinction helps identify a genuine reproducible bug without treating an interrupted run as proof that the relic is globally broken.
What to expect from a fix
A fresh run is the reliable remedy for a broken order, a forbidden perk pickup, or a suspect save state. It is not a shortcut around global requirements: the correct mode, tier, character, Easter Egg history, and relic checklist still have to be satisfied. Because no universal Treyarch repair has been published for missing Totenreich relic portals, verify the current game build and use the relic’s exact conditions when reporting a failure.
