If the button works, the camera or flash clears up, or wireless charging starts, the case or an attached accessory is likely interfering. Stop using it and choose a replacement made for your exact iPhone model. If the problem remains with the case removed, troubleshoot the iPhone or charger instead.
First, isolate the case
- Remove the case and anything attached to it. Take off a wallet, magnetic mount, metal plate, or other accessory as well.
- Repeat the same test. Try the button or switch that was blocked, take a photo and test the flash, or place the phone on the charger and check for a charging indication.
- Compare the result. If the problem disappears, the case or accessory is implicated. If it continues, follow the relevant iPhone or charger troubleshooting steps below.
If the case blocks a button or switch
Apple recommends removing cases or protective films that might block an iPhone button or switch, then checking around the control for debris. Test the control with the case off. If it works normally, the case’s opening or button cover is the likely issue; do not keep pressing a control that the case makes difficult to use. Apple’s guidance is to “Remove any protective films or cases that might block the button or switch.” (Apple Support: If the side button or another button isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad.)

If the control is still unresponsive, damaged, or intermittent without the case, the case is not a sufficient explanation. Follow Apple’s troubleshooting guidance and arrange service if the problem persists.
If the case affects the camera or flash
Remove the case, any lens film, and attached accessories, then test both a photo and the flash. Check whether an opening or raised edge covers any part of a rear camera or flash. Apple also advises removing accessories that put a magnet near the camera. Strong magnetic fields near camera sensors can interfere with optical image stabilisation and closed-loop autofocus; leave magnetic accessories or magnetisable metal near the rear cameras off while testing.

If photos are blurry, gently clean the lenses with a microfiber cloth. Apple recommends restarting the iPhone and updating iOS as further checks; if the camera or flash still fails, seek service. If wireless charging stops with the case on
Remove the case and anything on the back of the phone, center the iPhone on the charger, and check for a charging indication. If it charges without the case but not with it, the case or an attached item is affecting that setup. Check compatibility for your exact iPhone model and charger before replacing either part.

For MagSafe, correct alignment matters, and Apple says supported iPhones can charge in a MagSafe case or sleeve. Remove an attached wallet; cards, badges, passports, or key fobs should not sit between the phone and charger. - Model fit: The case listing should identify your specific iPhone model.
- Controls: Button covers should press reliably, and openings should leave that model’s switches and Camera Control accessible.
- Camera and flash: The cutout should leave every lens and the flash unobstructed.
- Charging: Confirm compatibility with your actual MagSafe or Qi charging arrangement, including any case requirement stated for the charger.
- Magnetic mounts: If you use one, avoid a setup that puts a magnet or metal plate near the rear cameras.
Do not assume that a case is defective solely because a charger behaves differently with it attached: first test without the case and check the compatibility of the complete charging setup.
