If your Samsung Galaxy phone won’t charge, start by checking the outlet, charger, and cable, then inspect the charging port and rule out moisture or overheating. These safe checks can resolve common charging problems; if they do not, Samsung recommends a hardware inspection rather than guessing which component has failed.
1. Check the outlet, charger, and cable

Disconnect the cable from the phone and power adapter, then reconnect both ends securely. If you were charging from a computer, try a wall outlet instead.

Look for visible damage to the cable and adapter, such as fraying, bent connectors, or cracks. Stop using damaged accessories.

Test with another known-good charger and cable that are compatible with your exact Galaxy model. Samsung recommends compatible charging accessories designed for the device; a similar-looking cable is not necessarily suitable for the same charging performance. Check your model’s Samsung support page or manual if you are unsure.

Samsung notes that a Galaxy device connected to a PC may not charge as expected. If the phone charges from a wall outlet but not a computer, the PC connection or its power output may be the issue. Samsung’s PC-charging troubleshooting guide covers that case.
2. Inspect the charging port

Power off the phone and use a flashlight to look inside the USB charging port for lint, dust, or other visible debris.

If debris is visible, remove it carefully without using metal objects or liquids. Do not push a sharp object into the port or attempt deep cleaning.

If the port looks packed with debris, damaged, or corroded, stop and arrange a service inspection rather than probing it.
Samsung explains that material in the port can prevent proper contact between the cable and the phone. Its USB cable connection guidance also covers connection problems.
3. Stop wired charging if the phone detects moisture
If a water-drop or moisture warning appears, unplug the cable. Samsung says charging may stop to protect the device. Gently shake out excess moisture, wipe the phone with a soft, clean cloth, and leave it in a well-ventilated place to dry using cool air. Do not use heat, put objects into the port, or try to bypass the warning. The port must be completely dry before wired charging—even on a water-resistant Galaxy phone. 4. Let an unusually warm phone cool
If the phone feels unusually warm, disconnect it and let it cool before trying again. Samsung says high temperature can slow charging or temporarily stop it. Resume charging only after the device has cooled.

5. Check charging settings and run a diagnostic
If the phone charges slowly, or charging stops at a limit rather than failing entirely, inspect its settings:

Open Settings > Battery and review the available charging options and Battery protection. Menu names and locations vary by model and software version.

Check whether Battery protection is enabled and which option is selected. Depending on the setting, it can limit the maximum charge.

If you are troubleshooting slow charging, confirm that the relevant fast-charging option is enabled. On Galaxy S23 series and later, Samsung says Fast charging and Super fast charging are combined under one Fast charging setting. This describes the setting layout, not a guarantee that every charger or phone supports the same charging speed.

Open Samsung Members > Support > diagnostics and look for the cable-charging check, if it is available in your app. App flows can change, and a diagnostic is a check—not a definitive diagnosis of an individual component.

Wireless charging can help determine whether the phone can charge by an alternate route, but it is not available on every Galaxy model and will not fix every fault. Confirm support for your exact phone before trying a Qi pad.

Place the phone correctly on the pad and power the pad with the adapter and cable recommended for that charger.

If wireless charging also fails after these checks, consult Samsung’s wireless-charging troubleshooting guide.
7. Arrange service if the problem persists
If a known-good compatible charger and cable do not help, or the safe checks and available diagnostics leave the problem unresolved, contact Samsung Support or visit a Samsung service center for inspection. Do not assume the battery, charging port, or another internal component has failed based on symptoms alone. Samsung support guidance states: “If charging still does not work, visit a Samsung service center for hardware inspection.” A service professional can assess the device and recommend the appropriate next step.
