If you mean the PS5 Slim console itself, stop: the controller instructions below do not apply to the console. If the console was opened and now behaves abnormally, stop using it and contact PlayStation Support or a qualified console repair technician.
First, identify which device was opened
“PS5 Slim battery replacement” can mean two different things. The repair instructions cited here concern the battery inside the DualSense wireless controller, not a battery inside the PS5 Slim console. They do not establish a user-replaceable PS5 Slim console battery or diagnose console faults.

- DualSense controller opened: Use the controller reset, cable, pairing, and repair checks below.
- PS5 Slim console opened: Do not apply controller reset or teardown steps to the console. If it will not power on or behaves abnormally, stop using it and contact PlayStation Support or a qualified console repair service.
Before troubleshooting, note the exact controller symptom: it will not turn on, will not charge, disconnects, will not pair, or has a button, stick, or vibration issue.
Reset the DualSense and reconnect it
- Turn off the PS5 and disconnect the controller from its USB cable.
- On the back of the controller, find the small reset hole beside the Sony logo. Use a pin or similar tool to press and hold the reset button for at least five seconds, as Sony specifies.
- Connect the controller to the PS5 with a USB cable, then press the PS button.
- If you can operate the console, install any available PS5 system software update and choose the matching PlayStation troubleshooting path for a battery issue, disconnection, pairing, buttons or sticks, or vibration.

Check charging and the USB cable
Try another USB port on the PS5. Use a cable that supports both charging and data—sometimes labelled “charge and sync” or “charging and data.” Sony says a charge-only cable cannot be used for this troubleshooting step, and notes that not every USB charger can charge the controller.
To check charge status, press the PS button and select Accessories. An animated battery icon with a lightning symbol means the controller is charging; three steady bars mean it is fully charged. See Sony’s DualSense connection and charging guidance.

If the problem started right after the battery replacement
Power the controller down before inspecting it again. A connector that is not fully seated or a pinched or strained cable is something to check—not a confirmed diagnosis. Reopen the controller only if you are competent to work on small electronics.

Match the repair guide to the controller revision
DualSense internals vary by revision. iFixit’s original battery replacement guide applies to controllers whose FCC ID ends in “1” and notes internal differences in versions ending in “A,” which have a separate guide. Check the controller’s identification before following a teardown or buying a replacement battery; do not assume a battery listing fits every DualSense revision.

Handle the battery connector carefully
If inspecting the connection, power down first and grip the battery connector itself rather than pulling its wires. Avoid straining the cables. If the replacement part or the correct procedure for your revision is uncertain, do not force the connector or continue disassembly; seek qualified repair help.

If the controller still fails after the reset and charging checks, use PlayStation’s controller support and Repairs route. If the PS5 Slim console itself was opened or is malfunctioning, contact PlayStation Support or a qualified console technician instead; a DualSense reset is not a console repair procedure.
