First identify which part is pending: a card or bank payment, a purchase provider’s order, a blockchain transaction, or an exchange deposit. Each has a different status source and next step. Check the order with the service that took your payment; for a transfer, check the transaction hash on the correct blockchain and the receiving service’s confirmation requirement. “Pending” is a platform status, not a diagnosis.
Find the stage that is delayed
Use the status shown by the service responsible for that stage. A bank payment or purchase order is not the same as an on-chain send, and a confirmed blockchain deposit may still be waiting for an exchange to credit it.

| What is pending? | Where to check | Who may need to act |
|---|---|---|
| Card or bank payment, or crypto purchase | The purchase order and payment status in the app or service where you placed it; check the bank or card record too | The payment provider, purchase provider, or bank/card issuer |
| Crypto sent from a wallet or exchange | The sending service’s transaction details and the blockchain explorer for the network used | The sending service or wallet, depending on whether the transaction was broadcast and what controls it supports |
| Crypto sent to an exchange but not credited | The blockchain transaction, the exchange’s deposit instructions and confirmation requirement, and account alerts | The receiving exchange if the transaction is confirmed at the correct address and network but remains uncredited |
If a purchase or bank payment is pending
- Open the purchase order in the app or service where you started it. Look for a provider status, a request to verify your identity, or an action needed for your payment method.
- If you started the purchase inside a wallet, check which outside provider is handling it. MetaMask says the selected provider executes the purchase; MetaMask itself does not fulfill it. If your bank shows a charge but the crypto has not arrived, contact that provider using its official support route. MetaMask’s guide to buying crypto explains the provider’s role.
- If the purchase failed but your card still shows a pending amount, it may be a pre-authorization hold rather than a completed charge. Kraken says it does not claim funds for failed transactions; ask your bank or card issuer about a hold that remains. Kraken’s payment-decline FAQ describes this possibility.
- Do not place a second order until you know what happened to the first. The cited support pages do not establish whether a duplicate order will be blocked or charged separately.
If an on-chain send is pending
- Open the transaction details in the sending wallet or exchange. Use its explorer link, or look up the transaction hash yourself, and make sure the explorer is for the network used to send.
- Check whether the transaction appears on-chain, whether its confirmation count is increasing, and whether the recipient address and network are the ones you intended. Binance’s transaction-status guide explains how to check a transaction on an explorer.
- Use the receiving service’s current confirmation requirement to judge whether it can credit the funds. Confirmation counts are not a universal definition of completion: requirements vary by asset and service, and Binance notes that requirements may change. Coinbase Exchange’s example says its BTC deposit example requires two confirmations; that is a service- and asset-specific example, not a general threshold. Coinbase Exchange’s pending-deposit explanation provides the example.
- If you sent from a self-custody wallet, check whether that wallet offers a speed-up or cancellation action for this particular pending transaction. MetaMask documents these controls for supported transactions. Fee changes can affect whether a transaction is picked up, but an option may not be available or appropriate for every wallet, network, or transaction state. Follow the wallet’s own instructions; do not attempt to cancel a transaction that is already confirmed. MetaMask’s guide to pending-transaction controls explains its supported options.
Coinbase advises waiting at least 30 minutes for many pending sends before taking its next support step, and says to contact support if the confirmation count remains at zero. This is Coinbase-specific guidance, not a general expected wait time or guarantee for other platforms. Coinbase’s send-and-receive troubleshooting page gives its guidance.

- Ask the sender for the transaction hash or explorer link. Compare the destination address and network shown on-chain with the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions.
- Check the exchange’s current confirmation requirement and any account alerts or requests for identity or other account information. An exchange can show an incoming transfer before it meets its deposit policy, or require an account action before processing it.
- If the transaction is confirmed on the correct network and at the correct address but the exchange has not credited it, contact the receiving exchange through its official in-app support route. Do not trust unsolicited messages, links, or phone numbers claiming they can release the deposit.
Delays can occur at different points. A purchase provider may still be processing payment authorization before executing a purchase. A transfer may be waiting for network confirmations, or a service’s systems may temporarily be out of sync with the network; Coinbase identifies node synchronization as one possible cause. Low transaction fees or network conditions can also affect processing speed, while an exchange may need an account action or review. These possibilities do not establish which one applies to a specific transaction: check the status source for the stage that is actually delayed. Coinbase’s pending-transactions page describes its synchronization issue and other pending-status causes.

If the transaction is confirmed but went to the wrong place
A successful confirmed blockchain transaction cannot be reversed. MetaMask states, “Confirmed transactions cannot be reversed.” If the funds went to the wrong recipient, MetaMask identifies contacting the receiver and asking them to send a new transaction as the recovery option. Do not assume the receiver will return funds or pay a service that promises to reverse a confirmed transfer. MetaMask’s transaction guide explains transaction finality.

Protect your account while troubleshooting
- Never share a seed phrase or private key with anyone offering to unstick a transaction. A legitimate support exchange should not require those secrets.
- Use the official app or website to contact a payment provider, wallet, or exchange. Avoid support details sent to you in unsolicited messages.
- Before taking an action that changes a pending transaction, verify its status and follow the instructions for the wallet and network you actually used.
