First, don’t send the payment again. Check the transaction on the correct network’s block explorer to see whether it is still pending, failed, or confirmed. A wallet’s status label alone does not establish what happened, and a second attempt could create another payment.
Check the transaction before taking action

Open the transaction details in your wallet and use its block-explorer link, or search the transaction hash in the official explorer for the network you used. Make sure the explorer is for that network, not simply the one your wallet opens by default. MetaMask recommends checking the explorer before resetting local wallet activity: MetaMask’s pending-transaction guidance.

Compare the sender address, destination or contract, amount, network, and explorer status with the presale payment you intended to make. If the explorer shows a nonce, note it too; replacement transactions on Ethereum and compatible networks use the same nonce.

If the hash does not appear, that may indicate a local display or broadcast problem. It does not prove the presale received or rejected the payment. Do not retry until you have resolved that uncertainty.

Never share your seed phrase or private key, and do not give anyone remote access to your device or wallet to “fix” the transaction.
If the transaction is pending
On Ethereum and compatible networks, a transaction fee that is low compared with current network demand can leave a transaction waiting. The precise options depend on the wallet and network; do not assume that every chain supports the same replacement controls.

Speeding it up
If the wallet still recognizes the transaction as pending, it may offer a speed-up option. On supported Ethereum-style transactions, this resubmits a transaction with the same nonce and a higher fee. That can help it be considered sooner, but it increases what you spend. Before approving, check the proposed destination, amount, and fee in the wallet. Trying to cancel
A wallet cancellation is an attempt to replace the pending transaction with another transaction using the same nonce; it is not a guaranteed reversal. It can only work while the original remains pending, and the replacement may incur a network fee. If the original has already been confirmed, pending-transaction controls cannot cancel it. If the transaction failed
Read the explorer’s failure details before considering another payment. A failed contract call can still consume gas: gas pays for the computation used to verify and execute a transaction, even when execution fails. MetaMask says this payment goes to validators, not to MetaMask. Its explanation is at Why did my transaction fail?
Whether another presale attempt makes sense depends on the failure reason, whether the sale is still open, the contract address, and the project’s rules. Those details cannot be determined from a failed status alone. Verify them through the project’s independently confirmed official channels before sending anything else.

If it is confirmed but tokens or a refund are missing
Do not try to cancel a confirmed transaction. MetaMask states, “Transactions that have already been confirmed cannot be reversed.” The wallet’s pending-transaction controls cannot undo an on-chain confirmation: MetaMask’s pending-transaction guidance.

A confirmed payment does not, by itself, show whether the contract created a token entitlement, whether tokens can be claimed later, or whether a refund is available. Those questions depend on the specific contract and sale terms; a refund cannot be assumed.
If you suspect fraud
Contact the exchange or crypto ATM operator you used as soon as possible, report the payment, and ask whether it can be reversed. The FTC advises reporting suspected cryptocurrency scams and notes that crypto payments are generally hard to recover and do not carry the same legal protections as debit- and credit-card payments: FTC guidance on cryptocurrency and scams.
Be wary of anyone who contacts you with a promise to recover the funds, especially if they request an upfront retainer or processing fee, or ask for financial information. The FTC warns that recovery scammers target people who have already lost money: FTC guidance on refund and recovery scams. Do not pay an unsolicited recovery offer.
Wallet reset is not a transaction fix
Resetting wallet activity clears local transaction history; it does not cancel an on-chain transaction or recover a payment. MetaMask advises checking the explorer first and says to reset only when directed by support. Follow its account-reset guidance only if that situation applies.
