Before you opt in, verify the official store listing and developer, check your region and device compatibility, and review the game’s privacy, age-rating, and purchase details. Also understand what happens at launch: Google Play may notify you and can automatically install the game on eligible devices; Apple calls the feature a pre-order and automatically downloads the released app to the device used to order it. Neither action guarantees that the game will suit your device or that its planned release details will stay unchanged.
Start with the official listing
Open the game from its listing in Google Play or the Apple App Store, rather than relying on a third-party promotion to establish what you are signing up for. Check the displayed game title, developer, description, screenshots, and links, including the privacy policy. Store mechanisms can help you identify and report listings, but they do not establish that every claim in a listing is accurate.

Apple’s App Review Guidelines say, “Apps you submit for pre-order on the App Store must be complete and deliverable as submitted.” That is a policy for developers, not a promise that Apple has independently verified every advertised quality of a particular game. Apple App Review Guidelines
Check whether it is available for your account and device
Region and account
Availability depends on the store account’s country or region, not just where you are physically located. Google says a user’s pre-registration country is based on the country registered to their Google Play account. Developers choose the countries or regions where a game is available, and Apple notes that release timing can vary by region. Confirm that the game is offered for your account and intended to launch where you expect to play it. Device and operating system
Use the compatibility information on the live game listing to check your specific device and operating-system version. A launch notification is not the same as a successful installation. Google documents auto-install conditions that include Android M or later, Google Play Store version 19.2 or later, account restrictions, and app-size limits; users on ineligible devices may still receive a notification. Apple documents supported operating-system versions for starting a pre-order. Understand what opting in does at launch
The store feature records your interest, but its launch behavior differs by platform. Google Play says pre-registered users receive a notification when the game becomes available; eligible devices may also automatically install it. Apple calls its equivalent a pre-order: it sends a notification and automatically downloads the released app to the device used to pre-order, subject to the device’s settings and eligibility. If you do not want an automatic download, check the current store and device controls for your platform and OS rather than assuming there is one universal setting.

Check the date again near launch. Apple allows developers to update a pre-order release date before release, and the date may differ by region. Its scheduling windows are product rules: a first release can be scheduled 2–180 days ahead, while an additional-region release can be scheduled 2–365 days ahead. Google’s pre-registration campaign limit is 90 days per country; after that, the developer must launch in production. Review privacy, age suitability, and monetization
Privacy and data disclosures
Read the game’s available privacy policy and store data disclosures before opting in. Consider whether the data the listing says it collects makes sense for the game’s features, and whether its stated practices are acceptable to you. Platform guidance is not evidence about a specific game’s actual data practices. Android’s privacy checklist, for example, recommends accessing location while the app is visible where possible, using background location only when necessary, and handling sensitive data transparently and securely. Age rating and purchase details
Check the store age rating and whether the game is paid or offers in-app purchases, subscriptions, or paid random-item purchases. Do not infer that pre-registration means the game is free. Apple says a paid pre-order is charged when the app is released, not when the customer places the pre-order. If the price changes before release, Apple charges the lower of the accepted pre-order price or the release-date price. Apple’s developer guidelines also require odds disclosure before paid randomized virtual items are purchased. - Confirm the listing and developer are the ones you mean to follow.
- Verify your store account’s country or region is included.
- Check the game’s compatibility information against your device and OS.
- Know whether the platform may notify you, automatically download, or install the game.
- Read available privacy, data, age-rating, price, and in-app purchase information.
- Recheck the release date and listing near launch; store timing and game details can change.
