Start by identifying which China Construction Bank (CCB) share listing your quote refers to: its Hong Kong H-shares trade as 939 on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) in Hong Kong dollars, while its mainland A-shares trade as 601939 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) in renminbi (RMB). Check the ticker, exchange and currency shown by the quote provider, then verify that exchange’s calendar for the relevant date. A broker may accept an order while an exchange is closed; that does not mean the market is open.
Identify the listing before reading the price
CCB has two listings that are easy to confuse if a quote page shows only the company name. The official investor information identifies the H-shares with HKEX and code 939, and the A-shares with SSE and code 601939. CCB’s 2024 annual report also lists its exchanges and codes.

| Share class | Ticker | Exchange | Trading currency |
|---|---|---|---|
| H-share | 939 | Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) Main Board | Hong Kong dollars |
| A-share | 601939 | Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) | Renminbi (RMB) |
These are different listings on different venues. Their numeric prices are not directly comparable without accounting for the different currencies and share listings. CCB’s official investor FAQ confirms the code-and-exchange mapping at CCB investor information and its Chinese-language FAQ. The bank’s disclosure dated 30 March 2025 specifies the trading currencies: CCB disclosure (PDF).

- Match the ticker. Look for 939 for the Hong Kong H-share or 601939 for the Shanghai A-share. If the provider shows only “China Construction Bank,” open the instrument details rather than assuming which listing it means.
- Confirm the exchange. Check that the quote identifies HKEX for 939 or SSE for 601939. Do not infer the market from the provider’s website locale or your own location.
- Read the displayed currency. The H-share quote is in Hong Kong dollars; the A-share quote is in RMB. Do not mistake a converted display value or your account’s base currency for the listing’s trading currency.
- Check the quote timestamp and service type. A displayed price may not be real-time. CCB (Asia) says securities customers can view quotes before placing an order, and describes a chargeable streaming-quote feature that requires a securities trading account, online banking and an application through a branch. That service information does not establish that quotes from every provider are live or free. See the CCB (Asia) securities FAQ.
Verify trading hours against the correct exchange calendar
Use the market calendar for the exchange listing the ticker: HKEX for 939 and SSE for 601939. Confirm the date, local timezone, public holidays and any special market arrangements on the exchange’s own current schedule. The official CCB material cited here does not provide a complete current ordinary-hours schedule for both exchanges, so it is not enough to establish today’s regular opening and closing times.
#1 Best Overall
Keep market hours separate from order-entry rules. CCB (Asia) says orders entered outside trading hours or on a non-trading day are treated as instructions for the next relevant trading day. For Northbound Trading, its FAQ says orders can be placed only during Shanghai market hours. These are broker-specific handling rules, not evidence that the exchange is open outside its schedule.

CCB (Asia)’s FAQ gives the following closing-auction subperiods for eligible Hong Kong securities. These are not a complete schedule of ordinary trading hours, and the FAQ does not establish that a particular security or quote is currently eligible. Check HKEX’s current information for applicability, holidays and disruptions.

A quick check before acting on a quote
- 939: confirm HKEX and Hong Kong dollars, then check the HKEX calendar.
- 601939: confirm SSE and RMB, then check the SSE calendar.
- Either ticker: check the quote timestamp and whether the data is real-time or delayed; don’t treat an order accepted by a broker as proof that the market is open.
