As of October 3, 2026, the sources available here do not establish a final product name, feature list, price, or sale date for the rumored display-equipped device. In the meantime, check whether your accessories work with Apple Home, whether your setup needs a home hub for remote access or automations, and whether any Matter accessories require Thread.
Has Apple announced the display, and can you buy it?
Separate confirmed product details from reports about a possible future device. A Tom’s Guide report said an announcement on October 13, 2026 was expected; that is reporting about an anticipated announcement, not confirmation from Apple or proof that the device is available. Read the report.

Will your accessories work with Apple Home?
Make a list of the lights, locks, sensors, and other accessories you already own or intend to buy, then verify support for each exact model. Apple says compatible accessories can be controlled through the Home app and Siri. A product’s support for another smart home platform does not, by itself, establish Apple Home compatibility. Does Matter support cover what you need?
Matter is designed to improve compatibility among smart home platforms, but the label alone does not tell you which functions an individual accessory supports or how it must be set up. Apple says Matter accessories can be added to Apple Home using the Home app or a HomeKit-based app. Check the accessory’s listed features and setup requirements before relying on it for a particular task. Does your setup require Thread?
Some Matter accessories communicate over Thread. Apple Support says a Thread-enabled Matter accessory needs a Thread-enabled home hub, and lists HomePod mini and certain Apple TV 4K configurations as examples. Check the exact accessory requirements and your hub model rather than assuming every Apple TV or home hub supports Thread. Apple’s home hub setup guidance explains the requirements.

What does a home hub do—and what should you verify?
In Apple Home, a home hub enables control of your home while you are away, sharing control with other people, and automations. Those are specific capabilities, not something to infer from a device having a screen. Nor does a display alone establish which wireless standards or radios it supports. Check Apple’s confirmed specifications for those details before treating a future display as the hub your accessories require. Apple Support: set up a home hub.

Should you wait or use a current Apple Home hub?
If you need Apple Home hub functions now, Apple says HomePod mini can act as a home hub for HomeKit and Matter accessories. It is a speaker without a display, so it can address hub needs but is not a substitute for the screen-based experience a rumored device might offer. Apple HomePod mini.
Apple’s Home app information also describes Apple TV among the existing home hub options.
