Find the point where traffic is actually delayed before changing the network. In Transport Fever 3, road junction controls, rail-service priorities, route waypoints, and maintenance access give you different ways to address different problems. To understand why a line is losing money, review its waiting and detours, demand, and vehicle upkeep before expanding its fleet. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed profit fixes: Urban Games has not published a universal line-profit formula.
Find where the delay starts
Follow the affected service and identify where vehicles begin to queue or lose time. Is it a road junction, a shared road segment, a station, or a stretch of railway used by competing services? This first observation helps match the fix to the bottleneck; rebuilding unrelated roads or buying more vehicles may leave the actual cause untouched.

How do I reduce road traffic jams?
Make a targeted change at the conflict point you identified, then observe whether the queue clears or simply shifts elsewhere. Urban Games describes flexible intersections and controls for lane routing, selected blocked paths, pedestrian crossings, turning lanes, traffic-light phases, and public-transport lanes.

- If a particular path creates a conflict, consider blocking that path or changing the turning arrangement.
- Review crossings and signal phases where vehicles are repeatedly held up.
- Where public transport shares a busy road, consider the available public-transport lane options.

How should I handle trains waiting on shared track?
Services use normal priority by default. You can assign service priorities so a higher-priority train takes precedence in a conflict while a lower-priority train waits at a red signal. Set a hierarchy that reflects which services matter most; priority redistributes waiting and does not add track capacity or eliminate every delay.

The developer says higher priority also increases reservation distances, reducing brake checks for high-speed services on busy networks. If a service’s route is contributing to a conflict, use a waypoint in the line manager to reroute it. Waypoints are supported on land, water, and in the air. Why is my line losing money?
The official guidance identifies maintenance costs, wait times, cargo priorities, delivery delays, and revenue as factors to balance. It does not publish a formula that lets you diagnose every unprofitable line from one number. Use the line’s observed operation to decide what to change:

- Check waiting and detours. Look for time spent queued or on a route that adds avoidable delay. The official site notes that delivery delays and detours affect reputation and revenue.
- Assess demand against service. Consider whether passenger or cargo demand justifies the route and the service you are running. Review cargo priorities where relevant.
- Check vehicle upkeep and facility access. Vehicles are maintained automatically within range of an appropriate facility when capacity is available. If vehicles are missing that coverage, review the route and facility access.
- Reconsider the route or fleet. Once you understand whether delay, upkeep, or demand is the issue, adjust the service accordingly rather than assuming more vehicles will improve the result.
Paradox Interactive says neglected vehicles gradually slow down and generate more noise and pollution. Maintenance therefore matters not only to operating conditions but also to town outcomes.
