These checks are separate: a game’s minimum requirements do not describe every title in the genre, a Steam Deck rating does not guarantee identical desktop-controller behavior, and Steam’s refund policy does not cover purchases made elsewhere.
Will this deckbuilding game run on my PC?
Compare the requirements on the exact game’s store page with your computer’s operating system and hardware. Minimum requirements are specific to that game; they are not a reliable benchmark for other deckbuilders, and meeting them is not a promise about performance in every setup.

Use the listing, not the genre, as your reference
For example, Steam’s Balatro listing describes the game as a poker-inspired roguelike deckbuilder. Its listed Windows minimums are a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11 x64, an Intel Core i3, 1 GB of RAM, OpenGL 2.1-compatible integrated graphics, and 150 MB of available storage. Those figures apply to this game’s listing, not to PC deckbuilding games generally.

Check the operating-system requirements for both the game and the storefront client. They can differ: Steam separately notes that its client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. A game listing that names an older Windows version does not change the client’s platform requirements.

Compare the relevant parts of your PC
- Operating system: Confirm the required version and whether the listing specifies 64-bit.
- Processor and graphics: Compare your hardware with the listed CPU and graphics requirements; do not assume integrated graphics will suffice for every game.
- Memory and storage: Check both available RAM and free disk space against the listing.
- Other operating systems: If you use macOS or Linux, look for requirements for that operating system rather than assuming Windows support carries over.
Published minimums are a compatibility starting point, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or experience. The listing does not establish how the game will perform on hardware beyond the configurations it describes.
Does it support a controller?
Look for the game’s controller-support details on its store page, then check the specific controller and device you plan to use. Controller support, ordinary PC system requirements, and Steam Deck compatibility answer different questions.

For a desktop PC
Find the title’s controller disclosure before purchase and verify that it covers your preferred input method. A Steam Deck rating is not proof that every desktop controller, connection method, or configuration will work the same way.

Check the game’s Steam Deck compatibility label and its details on the store page. Valve uses four labels:

- Unsupported: Currently does not function on Steam Deck.
- Unknown: Valve has not checked the title.
Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility criteria say a Verified title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed. The Steamworks review criteria add that Deck controls should provide access to all game content through the default configuration. A title that requires manually choosing a community layout or relies on touchscreen navigation may receive Playable rather than Verified.

For games bought directly on Steam, Valve’s standard refund offer is a request made within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. This is the ordinary policy, not a guarantee that every request will qualify. Valve says buyers may still request an exception outside those conditions, and consumers in some jurisdictions may have additional rights. Check the live Steam refund policy, last updated April 23, 2024, and any rights that apply where you live.

If you bought a key elsewhere
Valve does not provide refunds through Steam for purchases made outside Steam, including third-party keys. Check the seller’s own refund terms before buying; Steam’s 14-day and under-two-hours standard does not automatically apply to another seller.

Run this check before you buy
- Open the exact game listing. Confirm the supported operating system and compare its stated processor, graphics, memory, and storage requirements with your PC.
- Check the input information. Look for controller support for your preferred setup; if you plan to play on Steam Deck, review the compatibility label and its details.
- Identify the seller. Confirm whether checkout is through Steam or another seller, then read that seller’s refund terms before paying.
