That can make on-site installation and commissioning more repeatable while utility studies and grid work continue. It does not, by itself, move a project forward in the utility’s interconnection queue or eliminate required approvals and upgrades.
How do modular power systems reduce the time to build a data center?
Instead of assembling every component and connection at the site, a project can use factory-built power skids or eHouses: packaged modules that bring selected electrical equipment together before delivery. The exact scope varies, but Siemens describes modules that can integrate medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) distribution, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) equipment and controls.

Factory integration can move coordination and some testing off site, reduce the number of separate interfaces crews must complete in the field, and make installation and commissioning more repeatable. Siemens’ Compass Datacenters example is an MV skid combining switchgear and a transformer as a factory-tested unit. The site still needs to receive, connect and commission the equipment, along with completing project-specific design and approvals.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThis is a construction and commissioning advantage, not a shortcut through the utility’s interconnection process. It may let facility work advance in parallel with utility work, but it does not make grid capacity available sooner by itself.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do modular power systems shorten the utility interconnection queue?
No—not on their own. A utility interconnection typically involves studies, approvals and, where needed, grid upgrades before a facility can receive permanent utility power. Prefabrication changes how the facility’s electrical infrastructure is built; it does not replace those utility-side steps.
PJM reported on 17 June 2026 that study processing under its reformed interconnection process was taking one to two years. That figure describes PJM’s process, not a universal timeline: schedules vary by utility, region and project. PJM also noted that permitting and supply-chain delays can persist after studies are processed.

What do vendor schedule claims actually establish?
In a 19 November 2025 announcement about its partnership with Delta, Siemens said its prefabricated, integrated containerized power solutions could reduce time-to-market by up to 50%, capital expenditure by up to 20%, and carbon emissions by up to 27%. Siemens attributed the emissions potential to using less concrete in a space-optimized layout. These are vendor-stated potential benefits, not independently measured industry averages. The announcement does not establish that every project will achieve them; comparisons depend on the solution’s scope and the project baseline.
Schneider Electric’s 14 February 2025 Sagrada Familia case study describes an off-site-built modular data center designed to be moved as construction demands changed, without disrupting business operations. It illustrates modular deployment and relocatability, but does not quantify a reduction in utility interconnection time.

What can a data center do while waiting for grid power?
Interim or complementary power approaches address different needs. They can support commissioning, provide some on-site supply, or help manage load under an arrangement with the utility. Each brings its own limits; none is a universal replacement for a permanent utility connection.
| Approach | What it may change | Project example or evidence | Questions to resolve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prefabricated distribution skid or eHouse | On-site construction, equipment integration and commissioning effort | Siemens describes integrated MV/LV, UPS and control modules; its Compass Datacenters example is a factory-tested MV skid with switchgear and a transformer. | Which equipment is included? What is tested at the factory? Which site connections, approvals and commissioning tasks remain? |
| Temporary rental power | Power availability for commissioning or an interim period | Aggreko reports deploying 60 MW for hyperscale data center commissioning in South Bend, Indiana, with 99.1% uptime over six months. These are company-reported case-study figures, not independently audited sector statistics. | What load and duration are covered? What are the fuel, emissions, noise, redundancy, permitting and cutover requirements? |
| Modular on-site generation | Potential power availability before full utility energization, if the site is ready | FuelCell Energy announced standardized packaged 12.5 MW on-site power blocks on 23 March 2026. This is a product announcement, not evidence that all projects can deploy on that schedule. | What fuel and emissions controls are needed? What permits, redundancy, ramping capability and grid synchronization apply? |
| Battery storage or grid flexibility | Load shaping or a utility-coordinated flexibility resource | Calibrant Energy describes a battery energy storage project for Aligned Data Centers, co-designed as a grid-flexibility resource intended to support reliability and earlier energization. | What duration and operating limits apply? What utility arrangement and control requirements are necessary? |
Other vendor-described combinations pair modular electrical systems with on-site generation and battery storage. Eaton and Siemens Energy present such an integrated approach. Its usefulness depends on the site’s readiness and the generation, storage, permitting and utility arrangements required.

How should a project compare its options?
Compare the work each option actually removes or enables, rather than treating “modular” as a schedule guarantee. A practical review should establish:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- System scope: List the MV, LV, UPS, transformer, switchgear and control equipment included, and identify what remains outside the package.
- Factory testing: Confirm which equipment and integrated functions are tested before shipment, what results are documented, and what commissioning remains on site.
- Site interfaces: Map civil, utility, protection, control and equipment connections that still require site work or approval.
- Schedule evidence: Ask what baseline and project scope support any claimed time saving; distinguish vendor estimates from measured results for a comparable project.
- Power and operating constraints: For interim options, assess load, duration, fuel, emissions, noise, redundancy, cutover and grid synchronization as applicable.
- Lifecycle and reuse: Compare scalability, relocatability and future reuse with the package’s installation and operating costs.
The key planning question is whether parallel facility work leaves the project ready to use utility power once the utility-side process is complete. A modular package can make that facility work more orderly; the interconnection schedule still depends on the utility process and the project’s remaining site, permitting and supply-chain requirements.
