Final Fantasy VII Remake save data does not transfer your character progression into Rebirth. Cloud’s level, weapons, armor, materia collection, items, abilities, gil, quest progress and story flags all start separately in Rebirth. A qualifying Remake save is checked only to unlock a fixed reward: Leviathan Summoning Materia. A PlayStation 5 save from EPISODE INTERmission separately unlocks Ramuh Summoning Materia. The Rebirth demo has its own, unrelated bonuses.
The short answer: recognition, not a save-file import
Rebirth can recognize that qualifying data exists on your PlayStation system, but it does not load the completed Remake campaign as a continuation file. Think of the feature as a reward check rather than a New Game Plus transfer. Rebirth creates its own levels, equipment, inventories and quest state, then grants the specific bonus associated with the save it finds.

The official PlayStation guide states that “save files from FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will not transfer over to Rebirth.” That wording rules out both a full campaign import and a partial build import. There is no supported path in which a high-level Cloud, a fully upgraded weapon, or a finished side quest appears in Rebirth because it existed in Remake.

The available paths are fixed. The source game and, for EPISODE INTERmission, the platform determine the reward.

Leviathan and Ramuh are summon materia rewards, not copies of the materia stock, equipment or abilities you earned in Remake. The demo rewards are accessories or item-set bonuses and belong to a different save-data system.
What does not carry over from Remake?
Starting Rebirth means starting its progression systems independently. A Remake save does not bring over any of the following:
- Cloud’s level, experience or other party levels
- Weapons, weapon upgrades, armor or accessories
- Materia inventory, materia levels or equipped loadouts
- Items, consumables, gil or crafting resources
- Learned abilities, weapon skills or other character progression
- Completed chapters, story flags or relationship-state results
- Side-quest completion, quest rewards or exploration progress
- Any other ordinary campaign state from Remake
Rebirth therefore does not provide an advantage scaled to how much of Remake you completed. A save from the opening hours and a save made after clearing every available quest are treated according to the same documented reward mapping: the Remake save unlocks Leviathan, while the separate INTERmission save unlocks Ramuh.
Do you have to finish Remake?
Official guidance identifies the presence of qualifying save data and the source game, not a completion percentage, difficulty setting, trophy total or side-quest count, as the basis for the reward. The published instructions do not state that Remake must be cleared, that the file must be a “clear” save, or that a particular chapter must be reached.

That means you should not replay Remake solely to raise a completion percentage for this bonus. If Rebirth recognizes qualifying Remake data, the documented reward is Leviathan. The same qualification applies regardless of whether your old file represents a short session or a completed campaign; no alternate reward tiers are published.
How to claim the Remake and INTERmission bonuses
The check is performed from Rebirth’s title-screen flow rather than by importing a file during gameplay. Use the following procedure:
- Make sure the qualifying Remake or EPISODE INTERmission save is present on the PlayStation 5 system on which you are starting Rebirth. The original reward instructions require the data to be available to that console for detection.
- Launch Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and wait for the title screen.
- Select NEW GAME. Rebirth performs a save-data check as part of this flow.
- Follow the on-screen prompt to allow the game to inspect the system’s saved data.
- If you prefer to run the check separately, open the title menu’s BONUSES option and start the save-data check there.
- Accept the confirmed reward. The Leviathan Summoning Materia is tied to Remake data; the Ramuh Summoning Materia is tied to PS5 EPISODE INTERmission data.
The check does not merge the old save with a new Rebirth save. Once the bonus is recognized, your Rebirth campaign continues with Rebirth’s own levels, equipment and inventory rules.
Storage and platform details that affect detection
Remake data from PS4 or PS5
The documented Remake reward covers qualifying Remake save data created on PS4 or PS5. For the original Rebirth reward flow, that data must be available on the PS5 system where the check is run. A file that exists only somewhere Rebirth cannot access will not be recognized during that check.

If you played Remake on another console or left the file only in a cloud account, first make the save available on the PS5 system according to PlayStation’s normal save-management options. The requirement is about detection by the destination console, not about the level or contents of the old campaign.
INTERmission is a separate PS5 requirement
EPISODE INTERmission is checked independently from the main Remake save. Its documented reward is Ramuh Summoning Materia, and the qualifying save is specified as PS5 data. Having a Remake save alone does not substitute for an INTERmission save, and having INTERmission data does not change the Leviathan mapping for the main Remake save.
What to do if the bonus does not appear
Most apparent failures are detection problems or a mistaken expectation about what the feature does. Check the following in order:

- Check the console. The original instructions require the relevant data to be available on the PS5 system running Rebirth. A cloud-only or otherwise inaccessible file cannot be inspected until it is available to that system.
- Use the title-screen check. Start the check after choosing NEW GAME, or open BONUSES from the title menu and run it manually.
- Look for the correct reward. Remake data should map to Leviathan; INTERmission data should map to Ramuh. Do not expect the old equipment or inventory to appear in a Rebirth save.
- Separate demo data from Remake data. A demo save belongs to its own bonus path. It does not prove that a Remake save was detected, and its levels and items are not normal progression transfers.
The official material does not document extra rewards for trophies, difficulty, completion percentage or a particular side-quest status. If you are checking for one of those conditions, there is no published reward rule to satisfy.

Remake bonuses versus the Rebirth demo
Rebirth’s demo can create confusion because it also has a save-data benefit. A qualifying demo save can grant the Kupo Charm and Survival Set, and the demo supports a separate continuation or transfer path. Square Enix’s support wording is explicit: “You cannot carry over your levels or items from the demo.”

Owning or completing the demo does not replace the Remake or INTERmission requirements. Conversely, a Remake save does not grant the demo’s Kupo Charm or Survival Set.

Do not delay your new game to optimize Remake
Because the documented rewards are fixed, there is no stated benefit to grinding levels, collecting every materia, replaying on a harder difficulty or completing every Remake side quest before launching Rebirth. Those activities may be worthwhile for your Remake playthrough, but they do not create additional Rebirth transfer rewards.

Prepare to reacquire or earn Rebirth’s weapons, armor, materia, items and gil through Rebirth’s own chapters and activities. The summon materia bonuses are additions to that new progression, not replacements for it.

Keep the platform distinction in mind
The main Remake reward is documented for PS4 or PS5 Remake saves, while the INTERmission reward is documented for PS5 data. If you have both, make both saves available to the PS5 system before running the check so Rebirth can evaluate each qualifying source.
Frequently misunderstood cases
“I uploaded my Remake save, so why is Cloud not my old level?”
Uploading or making a save available enables recognition; it does not convert the file into a Rebirth campaign. The feature grants the mapped summon materia only.
“I finished Remake, so should I receive a stronger version of the reward?”
No tiered reward based on completion is documented. The published mapping remains Leviathan for qualifying Remake data.

INTERmission data is evaluated as its own source for Ramuh. It is not described as dependent on the main Remake campaign’s completion state.
“Can I bring demo items into the full game?”
No. The support guidance specifically excludes carrying over demo levels or items. The demo’s Kupo Charm and Survival Set are separate benefits.
