Digital Extremes describes it as a short, permanent, replayable story addition in the Warframe Codex. Completing it gives you the narrative progression and access associated with the prologue itself—not a named weapon, blueprint, cosmetic, resource, currency, or Moonflesh-shop payout.
The direct answer
Digital Extremes has not published an itemized completion reward for Prologue to Tau. The official material for the quest does not name an equipment drop, blueprint, cosmetic, currency, resource bundle, or other object granted when the prologue is finished.

That absence matters because Prologue to Tau launched alongside Epoch Operation: Taubound, a separate piece of content with its own reward economy. The two are narratively connected, but the operation’s rewards and dialogue are not rewards or dialogue from the quest. If you complete the prologue expecting a Moonflesh exchange payout, you are looking in the wrong activity.

The reliable payoff is story progression: the Tau prologue becomes part of your completed main-story content, and the chapter remains available in the Codex for replay. No additional item should be assumed unless Digital Extremes publishes a later update that names one.

What Prologue to Tau actually is
A permanent Codex story chapter
The Tau Prologue Series is a short narrative prologue added to Warframe’s Codex on October 15, 2026. Digital Extremes calls these prologue chapters a “permanent addition to the Main Story” and says they are replayable. That design is different from a temporary reward track: the content is intended to remain available as part of the game’s continuing story rather than disappear when an event rotation ends.
Story access is the meaningful completion outcome
Finishing the prologue records your progress through that chapter and lets you revisit it. For players following the Tau storyline, that is the practical benefit. The quest is not documented as a farming source, a vendor unlock, or a guaranteed equipment grant, so completion should be planned as a narrative objective rather than as a way to increase your inventory.
Requirements before it appears
The Tau Prologue Series appears in the Codex after you complete both The Hex and The Old Peace. These are prerequisites, not optional recommendations. Until both are complete, the prologue may not be available to select.

Access checklist
- Finish The Hex.
- Finish The Old Peace.
- Open the Warframe Codex and look for the Tau Prologue Series.
- Start and complete the available prologue chapter or chapters shown there.
The published information does not specify an additional Mastery Rank, equipment, resource, or event-currency requirement. Do not infer one from the simultaneous Taubound event; the quest’s documented gate is completion of the two named story quests.

If the prologue is missing
Use the Codex as your first check. Confirm that both prerequisite quests are marked complete rather than merely started. If one is unfinished, completing it is the documented route to making the Tau Prologue Series eligible to appear. If both are complete and the series still does not show, consult the latest official Warframe patch notes for a hotfix or availability change, because the October 15 launch information does not publish a separate workaround.
How the quest reward differs from Taubound rewards
Epoch Operation: Taubound is the limited-time operation associated with the same Tau-themed release period. It has its own participation requirements, dialogue, and Moonflesh exchange. Prologue to Tau is the permanent Codex story content. The official announcement explicitly separates the prologue from the rewards and dialogue found in the operation.
| Question | Prologue to Tau | Epoch Operation: Taubound |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Short narrative prologue in the main story | Limited-time community operation |
| Availability | Permanent Codex addition; replayable | Available for the operation’s event period |
| Access information published for this release | Complete The Hex and The Old Peace | Uses the operation’s own participation rules |
| Reward source | No separate itemized quest reward published | Moonflesh exchange and the operation’s event reward pool |
| Relationship | Narratively connected to the event | Rewards and dialogue are separate from the prologue |
This distinction answers the most common confusion: playing the story chapter does not automatically place Moonflesh or an event-shop item in your account. Moonflesh rewards belong to the operation’s exchange system, not to the quest-completion screen described for Prologue to Tau.
What has not been announced as a quest reward
The current official descriptions do not identify any of the following as a completion grant:

- A cosmetic item
- Archon-related equipment or shards
- Kuva, Endo, credits, or another resource bundle
- Moonflesh or an operation-shop voucher
- A permanent vendor, shop, or event-unlock token
This is a statement about the published reward information, not proof that a hidden item can never be added. Digital Extremes could change the quest in a future patch. Until an official note names a reward, guides and videos that attach an item to Prologue to Tau should be treated cautiously, especially when they are actually describing Taubound’s separate reward pool.
What you should expect when you finish
A narrative completion state
The clearest expected result is that the prologue is completed in your story record. Because the chapters are permanent and replayable, completion is useful for players who want to follow the Tau narrative now and revisit it later. Replayability also means the chapter is not structured like a one-time event claim that disappears after a single run.
No documented end-of-quest shopping step
Nothing in the published quest description says that finishing the prologue opens a Moonflesh vendor, grants event currency, or adds an item to a shop. If your goal is an operation reward, enter the Taubound content and follow its own exchange requirements instead of replaying the story chapter.
No numerical payout to calculate
Digital Extremes has published no reward quantity, drop chance, token amount, or completion-statistic figure for this quest. There is therefore no reliable number of credits, resources, or currency that can be used in a build plan or farming schedule.

Why online reward lists can be misleading
Launch-day coverage often groups all Tau-related content together. That can make an operation reward list look like a quest reward list, particularly when both pieces of content are promoted in the same announcement. The official separation is more precise: the prologue is connected to the event’s story context, while the event’s rewards and dialogue remain its own system.
When evaluating a claimed reward, ask three questions:
- Does the claim identify Prologue to Tau itself, or does it describe Epoch Operation: Taubound?
- Does an official patch note or announcement name the item as a quest-completion reward?
- Is the item obtained by completing a chapter, or by exchanging Moonflesh during the operation?
A claim that answers only that an item is available during the Tau release is not enough to establish it as a prologue reward. The acquisition method and the content name must match.

You want the story
Complete The Hex and The Old Peace, then open the Codex and play the Tau Prologue Series. Treat the reward as story progress and a permanent, replayable chapter. This is the correct route if your objective is to understand the Tau narrative rather than obtain inventory items.
You want Moonflesh or an event-shop item
Do not rely on the prologue. Moonflesh exchange rewards are tied to Epoch Operation: Taubound. Check the operation’s current rules, participation window, and exchange interface in-game, because those details belong to the event rather than the permanent quest.
You are checking a guide published later
Look for a dated official patch note that explicitly says a reward was added to Prologue to Tau. A later change could alter this answer, but the October 15, 2026 launch documentation and the status reported on October 19, 2026 contain no named itemized completion reward.
Timeline and current status
The Tau Prologue Series entered the Codex with the October 15, 2026 update. Four days later, on October 19, the official information available for the quest still described it as a permanent, replayable story addition without a separate itemized reward. The Taubound announcement likewise maintained the separation between the prologue and the operation’s reward and dialogue systems.
That date qualification is important. Warframe content can receive hotfixes and follow-up changes. This answer describes the launch state documented for October 2026; it should not be read as a promise that a future patch cannot add a named completion item.
Bottom line for your inventory and progression
Complete Prologue to Tau for the Tau story, not for a guaranteed weapon, cosmetic, resource bundle, or Moonflesh payout. The prerequisites are The Hex and The Old Peace, and the finished chapter remains permanently replayable in the Codex. Any reward you earn through Moonflesh exchange comes from Epoch Operation: Taubound and must be pursued through that separate, limited-time activity.
