Apple’s MagSafe 3 cable firmware version 3.2.0 was reported in October 2026, but Apple has not published what it changes. The update is reported to install automatically over time while the cable is connected to a Mac and power adapter; there is no reported manual installation method or user-visible way to check the cable’s firmware version.
What is known about MagSafe 3 firmware 3.2.0?
MacRumors reported on October 5, 2026, that Apple had released version 3.2.0 for its USB-C to MagSafe 3 charging cable, replacing version 3.1.12. These version numbers and the release timing come from secondary reporting, not an Apple release note. MacRumors’ report says Apple did not publish a change log.

As a result, the specific changes are unknown. The available sources do not establish that 3.2.0 fixes a particular charging issue, changes charging speed, improves safety, or adds a feature. Apple says generally that some software or firmware updates might improve communication between a computer and its power adapter, but that statement does not explain this cable update. Apple’s support guidance is not a release-specific description.

According to MacRumors, the cable firmware update installs automatically over time when the cable is connected to a Mac and a power adapter. The report gives no manual update procedure. Apple’s support page discusses the possibility of software or firmware updates generally, but does not document this exact delivery process.

The report also says macOS System Information does not display the cable’s firmware version. The cited sources do not describe another consumer-facing way to verify whether the cable has updated. The report does not specify which Mac models or macOS versions are required for delivery.
What to do if your cable is not charging properly
Firmware 3.2.0’s undisclosed changes are not a reason to assume that an update will resolve a charging fault. For a MagSafe 3 connector whose indicator repeatedly flashes amber, Apple recommends these steps:

- Disconnect the cable at both ends and unplug the power adapter.
- Use a dry cloth to clean the MagSafe port and connector. Make sure both are dry and free of debris.
- Check the adapter’s USB-C port and the cable connector for debris or damage.
- Restart the Mac, reconnect the power, and try charging again.
- If the indicator keeps flashing, try charging with another MagSafe 3 cable or a USB-C cable. If another charging method works but the original cable continues blinking, Apple says there may be a software incompatibility issue.
Apple also advises checking for Mac software updates if the computer is not charging as expected. If the cable or adapter still does not work, take the Mac, cable, and adapter to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for evaluation. How the cable and indicator work
The USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable connects the Mac’s MagSafe 3 port to a power adapter. Apple’s MacBook Pro guide says its connector indicator glows green when the battery is fully charged and amber while it is charging. The guide does not describe a cable-firmware status indicator. If troubleshooting points to a faulty cable, Apple lists its USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m) as a replacement option. Trying another cable is a diagnostic step—not a requirement for receiving firmware updates.
