It is a scaling and frame-generation tool—not a restoration or remaster—and the result depends on the source, settings, display, and your preferences.
What Lossless Scaling changes—and what it does not
Lossless Scaling is PC software designed to scale windowed games to full screen. Its listed scaling methods include LS1, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, NVIDIA Image Scaling, integer scaling, nearest neighbor, xBR, Anime4K, Sharp Bilinear, and Bicubic CAS. The product overview also describes machine-learning-based scaling and frame generation. Its guidance is primarily framed around games, not archival video restoration. Scaling can make an image fit a larger display or alter its apparent sharpness. Frame generation can insert generated frames between source frames to change perceived motion smoothness. Neither operation supplies verified detail from an original camera negative or reverses the choices made in a remaster. A smoother or sharper-looking presentation is a different processing result, not proof of greater source fidelity.

Community-maintained guidance describes applying Lossless Scaling to video played in local players such as KMPlayer, VLC, and MPV, as well as to browser video. The guide suggests running the target app windowed or borderless and selecting its window with the Scale button or hotkey. For local playback, it describes resizing the player to the video’s original dimensions before applying a scaler; browser approaches include picture-in-picture, fullscreen video, or Crop Pixels. These are community instructions, not an official guarantee of video-specific support, so steps and behavior may vary by software version. Community video playback guide

Why a processed version might look preferable
Whether one version looks better is partly a matter of preference. A viewer may prefer a sharper presentation, smoother motion, or a particular fit to the screen. Those impressions should be weighed against possible interpolation artifacts, changes to edges, or other processing effects. An official remaster may also reflect choices about cropping, color, cleanup, and source materials; without a specific show and release, those choices cannot be evaluated here.
Lossless Scaling’s announcements acknowledge tradeoffs in its game-oriented features. Its January 2025 LSFG 3 announcement recommends a base frame rate of at least 30 FPS at 1080p, preferably 40 FPS or higher, with 60 FPS described as ideal; those are gaming recommendations, not tested settings for television playback. The same announcement reports GPU-load and latency comparisons for specified game-related configurations, which do not establish image quality against a TV remaster. - Listen to music from multiple formats
In a January 2024 introduction, the developer described 60 FPS on a 120 Hz display as the recommended minimum for best LSFG quality, while noting that 30 FPS and 60 Hz could work in some games up to 1080p. That is historical guidance for games, not a verified recipe for episodes. LSFG 1.0 introduction, January 9, 2024
What a fair remaster comparison needs
A claim that a Lossless Scaling presentation beats an official remaster is meaningful only when readers can identify what was compared. For a reproducible account, specify:

- The show, episode, scene, and exact official remaster release.
- The source used for the processed version, including its resolution and frame rate, and where it came from.
- The Lossless Scaling version and the scaling and frame-generation settings used.
- The playback app and relevant display details, including resolution, size, and refresh rate.
- Whether the versions were viewed side by side under the same display conditions, and which differences—such as detail, edge artifacts, motion, crop, or color—drove the preference.
No matched comparison of a named show and remaster is established here. Without those details, “looks better” is a personal impression rather than a general conclusion about Lossless Scaling or remaster quality.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the evidence supports
You can experiment with Lossless Scaling on PC video playback using community-described workflows, but its documented purpose and published performance guidance are game-focused. It may alter apparent sharpness or motion, yet that does not make it a restoration tool or show that it recovers lost detail. Whether you prefer its output to a particular remaster can only be judged against a named source and release under clearly described viewing conditions.
