That can help preserve more detail from a suitable source, but a higher bitrate does not make Bluetooth lossless or guarantee that you will hear a difference. Both devices must support LDAC, it must be active, and the connection must be stable.
What LDAC does
LDAC encodes audio for transmission over Bluetooth. Sony says it can carry Hi-Res Audio content and supports a maximum bitrate of 990 kbps. Its product guide gives 990 kbps for 96/48 kHz audio and 909 kbps for 88.2/44.1 kHz audio, describing these rates as approximately three times more data than SBC. These are Sony’s technical comparisons, not listening-test results or proof of lossless transmission. Sony’s LDAC developer page and SRS-X99 Help Guide provide the specifications.

Think of LDAC as one part of the audio path, not a sound-quality switch that overrides everything else. The recording, playback app, codec selected by the devices, receiver implementation, listening conditions, and your own hearing all affect what reaches your ears. The cited official documentation describes codec capability and data rates; it does not establish universal audible superiority in controlled listening tests.

When LDAC may improve Bluetooth audio
LDAC may be useful when the music source has detail worth preserving, both devices support the codec, playback is actually using it, and the Bluetooth link is reliable. Compared with SBC, Sony’s higher-rate modes can carry more data, which is the technical basis for considering LDAC. Whether that difference is audible depends on the complete setup and the listener.
#1 Best Overall
- Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling: Hybrid ANC with 6 mics (4 for ANC, 2 for calls) reduces up to 90% of low-frequency noise like airplane engines, train rumble, and cafe equipment hum. 2 call mics keep your voice clear on calls. Focus on work, study, or travel.
- Deep Bass, Hi-Res Audio: 1Mii Y8+ wireless Bluetooth headphones feature 40mm dynamic drivers, Hi-Res Audio certified sound, LDAC codec, and BassPULS tech. They deliver thumping beats and more details for travel, gaming, and commuting. LDAC needs a compatible device.
- 100-Hour Battery & Quick 10-Minute Charge: With a 100-hour rechargeable battery, 1Mii Y8+ noise cancelling Bluetooth headphones give you extended playtime for long trips, gaming, and studying — no need to worry about low battery or forgetting to charge. A 10-minute charge gives 5 hours.
- Super Low Latency for Gaming (0.069s): 0.069s ultra-low latency for mobile games. Sound and picture stay perfectly in sync. Turn it on in the YeeMall app. React faster, stay alive. Great for mobile games, not for PC.
- Dual-Connections: Connect to two devices at once with Bluetooth 6.0. Whether you're working on your laptop or need to take a phone call, audio automatically plays from the device you want to hear. Phone rings—sound switches to your phone. Call ends—it switches back to your laptop. No re-pairing, no hassle.
- Compatible sender and receiver: the phone or player and the headphones, earbuds, or speaker both need LDAC support.
- Active codec: successful pairing alone does not show which codec is carrying the audio.
- Suitable source: a higher-capability codec cannot restore detail absent from the recording or playback stream.
- Reliable link: higher-bitrate operation can be more sensitive to interference or other network conditions.
What devices and settings are required?
LDAC support must exist at both ends of the Bluetooth connection. Android’s open-source platform includes an LDAC encoder, and its documentation says codec negotiation selects a codec supported by both the sender and the receiving device, or “sink.” That platform capability does not guarantee LDAC on every phone: model, software, configuration, and settings matter. Check the exact phone or player specifications and the receiver’s model documentation. Android Open Source Project Bluetooth services documentation explains platform support and negotiation.
Settings can also determine whether a supported codec is used. Sony’s WH-1000XM4C help page, for example, lists SBC, AAC, and LDAC for music playback over Classic Audio/A2DP and says LDAC playback requires “Prioritize Sound Quality” on that supported model. This is a model-specific example, not a universal setting name: options and labels vary. Sony advises that the codec in use can depend on the connected device, operating system, software version, and settings. Consult the help guide for your exact products, then verify the active codec using the source device’s codec information or the manufacturer’s instructions. Sony WH-1000XM4C supported-codecs guidance and Sony’s codec-check guidance cover those points.

Why LDAC may not work—or may sound worse in practice
If LDAC is missing or inactive, one side may not support it, the operating system or device settings may select another codec, or the receiver may require a particular mode. Confirm support for the exact models, check the active codec after connection, and review each manufacturer’s setup instructions rather than assuming that pairing enabled LDAC.
If you hear dropouts, the issue may be link stability rather than a defect in the audio file. Sony warns that interruptions can occur during high-bitrate transmission depending on the network environment. Its developer page describes “Best effort” operation, which adjusts bitrate according to network conditions to help maintain a stable connection. On devices that offer a sound-quality versus connection-stability choice, try the stability-oriented mode or a lower negotiated bitrate, especially in congested or obstructed environments. Not every LDAC connection will drop out; the result depends on the conditions and implementation. Sony’s product guide and LDAC developer information describe the trade-off.

How to decide whether LDAC is worth using
- Check the exact models. Confirm LDAC in the specifications for both the sending device and receiving headphones, earbuds, or speaker.
- Connect and inspect the active codec. Use the source device’s Bluetooth or developer settings, or the manufacturer’s codec-check instructions; pairing by itself does not confirm LDAC.
- Review product-specific modes. If LDAC is supported but not active, check whether a sound-quality priority setting or other codec preference is required.
- Try it in your normal listening environment. Compare your own listening experience with a stable connection, and switch to a stability-priority option if interruptions occur.
When comparing devices, prioritize verified codec support at both ends, confirmation that LDAC is active, reliable operation where you listen, and your own preference with familiar material. A Bluetooth label alone does not mean a product supports LDAC.
